Chapter 363: Escape and Divination
Boom! A massive explosion erupted, sending up a spray of ice crystals that swiftly turned to water vapor, filling the air.
But by then Klein had already fallen into the sea. He only heard a muffled boom from above, and his spiritual intuition told him that the attack just now had been blocked by someone.
A demigod! There was a demigod hidden aboard the Black Death? Why didn't she appear when I assassinated Tracy?
Klein's expression turned ugly. He worried that the strand of hair he had left in an inconspicuous corner of the Black Death for divination positioning, along with the button, would be discovered by this demigod—a demigod-level Witch—who could use these items to locate him and even curse him directly.
As Klein sank in thought, the corpse he had pulled into the sea with him had already been entirely devoured by the writhing Hunger. He held his breath and kept swimming downward.
At the same time, a massive marine creature, somewhat resembling a whale, swam rapidly up from the ocean depths, opened its enormous jaws, and swallowed Klein whole, then swam toward the ocean depths, toward Bayam.
Klein steadied himself within the creature's hollow cavity and found the black cloth bag he had prepared in advance for it to swallow, containing various talismans he had readied beforehand.
He gave them a quick scan, confirmed nothing was missing, then immediately stood up, chanting an incantation while walking four steps backward.
Aboard the Black Death, Tracy's expression was extremely contorted. She never expected that the talisman the Red Witch had given her would be the mutual-destruction kind.
Because the distance was too close, she was severely affected and didn't even have the strength to keep the assassin there. She could only watch helplessly as the person disguised as Elaine escaped.
The extreme sense of danger from being locked onto made her suspect she would be torn to pieces the next moment. She closed her eyes in despair.
Her face twisted from pain, appearing extremely hideous.
Almost in the next moment, that extreme sense of danger and the agony of being scorched by the surrounding dark red flames all vanished, replaced by piercing cold.
Boom! A massive explosion sounded above the Black Death, causing the entire ship to shake ceaselessly.
Tracy staggered from the violent rocking and pitched forward, falling into a warm embrace.
She seemed to think of something and quickly broke free from the warm, intoxicating embrace, bringing into view the person who had suddenly appeared aboard the Black Death, in her captain's cabin.
She wore a simple, holy white robe, had lustrous black hair, and blue eyes that seemed both mature and naive, both profound and pure, ethereal and beautiful.
"... Mother." Tracy's lips moved, and only after a moment did she utter a single word.
Katarina Pelle looked at Tracy, whose body was severely burned, and a flash of anger crossed her eyes. She reached out and gently stroked Tracy's face, her voice soft and deeply alluring as she spoke:
"Yalina's overly hasty advancement to Immortal Witch left her with some hidden dangers. Though she appears fine, her sanity has become somewhat twisted, and her actions unconsciously lean toward madness, toward extremes."
"If she can recover that Conqueror characteristic, it will be fine. If not, without the Primordial's punishment, she herself will very likely lose control directly due to emotional instability."
As she spoke, she cradled Tracy's cheeks with both hands, gently rubbing them, temporarily granting Tracy some of her own abilities as an Immortal Witch. The wounds on Tracy's body began to writhe rapidly, disappearing at a visible rate.
In just a moment, she was restored to her original state, though her clothes had become tattered and could not fully conceal her body, adding an intimate atmosphere between her and Katarina Pelle.
Above the gray fog, within that grand and ancient palace, Klein's figure suddenly appeared before the "Fool's" high-backed chair.
The moment his figure appeared, he swiftly picked up the Black Emperor card placed face-down on the mottled long table, and at the same time beckoned, retrieving a crudely cut paper figure from a pile of sundries in the corner.
The paper figure landed in his hand; with just a glance, he flung it toward the star that was constantly emitting deep red light.
The paper figure expanded and twisted in midair, rapidly growing into the image of a tall angel bearing twelve pairs of jet-black wings.
The tall paper angel then descended into reality through the connection established by praying to the star, wrapping Klein's body layer by layer with jet-black wings, granting him a blessing to ward off any possible divination curses.
Whew~ Having done all this, Klein let out a long breath. Only now did he have the energy to reflect on everything that had happened today.
There shouldn't have been a demigod aboard the Black Death before; otherwise, my earlier divination here would have directly warned me of danger. Moreover, from Tracy's reaction, it didn't seem like a prearranged ambush—she had merely anticipated that she would face danger, but didn't know where it came from, which was why she was so surprised at the time.
That urgent sense of danger came after the dark red flames erupted—or more precisely, after Amon provided me help through the Eye of Mystery... The Witch Sect is targeting him, because of the Conqueror characteristic? Klein's gaze fell on the tabletop to his left, where a peculiar crown covered in bloodstains and rust sat quietly.
After lingering his gaze for a moment, he materialized his usual citrine pendant in his hand and performed a simple divination.
"Amon is in danger."
After chanting the divination statement in a low voice with his eyes closed seven times, he reopened his eyes. The citrine pendant in his hand was rotating clockwise in large swings.
In danger, and great danger at that. As Klein interpreted this in his mind, he extended his right hand toward the pile of sundries once more.
A crudely cut paper figure flew into his hand on its own. He infused it with spirituality and flung it out.
With the high-tier enhancement of the Black Emperor card, the paper figure rapidly expanded and twisted, transforming into a tall angel bearing twelve pairs of jet-black wings, and plunged into the deep red star representing Rehton.
Having done all this, he set down the Black Emperor card and picked up the Sea God's Scepter instead, issuing commands to the marine creatures in the surrounding waters, ordering them to create chaos in the ocean to interfere with any possible pursuit and help him quickly leave these waters and return to Bayam.
He hoped to return to Bayam smoothly. Once there, with the Storm Church's protection, the Witch Sect wouldn't care about a mere Sequence 6 like me.
As he pondered, his gaze fell on the deep red star representing Rehton. The Witch Sect seemed to have been prepared early on—whether or not I went aboard the Black Death to assassinate the Disease Lieutenant, things would ultimately come to this.
