Chapter 46: The Acting Method (Please Vote!!)
The next morning, early, Lei Kedun arrived at the Executor Squad's office, while the others had not yet arrived.
"Huh~ I'm actually the earliest one today," Lei Kedun said, shrugging his shoulders.
He dragged a chair casually and sat down; Tu Ba Ge, like a salted fish, flopped onto the desk, his whole rabbit face filled with utter despondency.
"It's just a bath, is it really such a big deal?" Lei Kedun said, looking at the now salted‑fish‑like rabbit.
"Of course it's a big deal," Tu Ba Ge retorted loudly.
"Who told you to dig the soil so earnestly yesterday, covering yourself in mud?" Lei Kedun said.
"You never told me that having mud on me meant I had to take a bath!" Tu Ba Ge said plaintively.
Lei Kedun was speechless at the rabbit, "Even 'being bathed' can be said."
"Never mind, now you know—once is new, twice is familiar; you'll get used to being bathed," Lei Kedun comforted the rabbit insincerely.
"Will we have to bathe again later?" Tu Ba Ge was shocked.
He buried his face into the desk, as if his entire rabbit life had turned bleak.
"You haven't never bathed before, have you?" Lei Kedun asked, eyeing the rabbit suspiciously.
"Can't I just take care of my fur myself?" Tu Ba Ge said confidently.
Hearing the rabbit, Lei Kedun suddenly felt an urge to push it into water and wash it again.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Tu Ba Ge seemed to sense malice and quickly tucked his neck in.
"From now on, you must bathe once every few days," Lei Kedun said seriously.
"No! It'll kill the rabbit," Tu Ba Ge cried pitifully, lying on the desk.
"What are you discussing? So intense?" Captain Yi Kangdun arrived at the office at that moment.
Seeing the captain arrive, Lei Kedun stopped arguing with Tu Ba Ge about the bathing issue.
"Captain, good morning! I'm teaching this rabbit to bathe frequently!" Lei Kedun greeted the captain cheerfully.
"Hmm, do you have something for me today? You seem excited," Captain Yi Kangdun said, puzzled.
"Am I that obvious? Hehe, I'd like to ask you, Captain, about the issue of applying for the later‑sequence magic elixir," Lei Kedun answered honestly.
"Hmm? Magic elixir? I must remind you that you can only ingest the next‑stage elixir after fully mastering the one you already have; otherwise the chance of losing control will rise sharply," Captain Yi Kangdun warned.
Captain Yi Kangdun originally intended to say the loss‑of‑control probability was nearly 100%, but recalling that Lei Kedun is an extraordinary being who swallows traits, he altered the statement.
"Yes, I understand, Captain," Lei Kedun nodded, indicating his comprehension.
After a moment of silence, Lei Kedun spoke, "Captain, do you know the Acting Method?"
Lei Kedun decided to tell the captain the Acting Method directly; as a Sequence Six Illicit, he was confident his captain already had some conjecture and understanding of the method.
"Acting Method?" Captain Yi Kangdun mused upon hearing the term.
After a while he looked up at Lei Kedun and said, "It's a way to quickly master the magic elixir, right?"
"Yes, by interpreting the elixir's name, obtaining its core symbol and concrete imagery, and aligning with it in daily life, one derives the Acting Rules," Lei Kedun briefly explained what the Acting Method is.
He continued, "It can effectively reduce the risk of losing control, lessen the impact of the mental imprint from extraordinary traits, and accelerate elixir digestion, allowing the extraordinary to use their abilities better."
"I see, I had some guesses but nowhere near as detailed as you; so have you already fully digested the extraordinary traits within you?" Captain Yi Kangdun asked curiously.
"Yes, due to some accident, I aligned with the reader's Acting Rules, and the traits inside me were largely digested at once; combined with prior accumulation, they were completely digested," Lei Kedun said without detailing the accident that sped his elixir digestion.
Captain Yi Kangdun was first surprised, then his expression cleared as he mentally supplied Lei Kedun with a plausible explanation.
Lei Kedun felt relieved, thinking that thanks to his recent frequent contact with that angel from the Church, Captain Yi Kangdun would likely attribute the accident to that angel.
"Okay, write an application for me later; it should be approved quickly," Captain Yi Kangdun nodded.
"Got it, Captain!" Hearing the captain's words, Lei Kedun's earlier worries eased.
"Do you know the Erudite's Acting Rules?" Captain Yi Kangdun asked.
"Huh? Erudite? Not sure, but it should relate to the amount of observed, remembered, and mimicked abilities," Lei Kedun guessed.
"Hmm, I have that thought too, but it likely involves more, perhaps also the amount of knowledge parsed and mastered," Captain Yi Kangdun explained his understanding.
Lei Kedun listened, thought for a moment, and nodded, "Hmm, very possible."
However, Lei Kedun didn't understand why the captain suddenly brought this up; he hadn't advanced to Sequence Seven yet, so why talk about the Sequence Six Acting Rules?
After the captain entered his office, Lei Kedun sat on his chair, thought for a while, and then had an insight.
"The captain isn't telling me the Erudite's Acting Rules, is he? As a compensation or gift for me telling him the Acting Method?"
After clarifying the captain's meaning, Lei Kedun understood that the earlier discussion was the captain's summary of the Erudite's Acting Rules.
"This gift is truly valuable; when I'm at Sequence Six, it will let me avoid many detours," Lei Kedun whispered.
On the other side of the desk, Tu Ba Ge, a salted fish who had lost his dreams, also heard the earlier conversation between Lei Kedun and the captain.
"You had me plant grass on the balcony also for acting?" Tu Ba Ge asked curiously.
"Exactly, but a balcony alone can't satisfy 'cultivation'; in a few days I'll find you a piece of land where you can farm and plant some crops," Lei Kedun said, nodding.
"What are crops? Isn't it just grass?" Tu Ba Ge heard another word he didn't understand.
"Cultivation should yield a harvest; planting grass alone can't count as a harvest," Lei Kedun said.
"But the grass I plant is my food; isn't that a harvest?" Tu Ba Ge asked, puzzled.
Lei Kedun paused, then realized the creature was a rabbit and he shouldn't view its issue through a human lens.
"Well, that's not wrong; let's just plant a bit then, and we'll see the results," Lei Kedun agreed with Tu Ba Ge.
He picked up a blank sheet and a feather pen from the desk and wrote a Sequence Seven Keeper of Knowledge magic elixir application; Lei Kedun looked at the freshly written application, recalling the information about the Keeper of Knowledge in his mind.
Sequence 7: Keeper of Knowledge, also known as "Detective".
It is a "profession" focused on knowledge mastery and reasoning ability, also possessing decent combat and weapon skills. One can, using extraordinary means, analyze and reconstruct events that occurred within a certain area.
Lei Kedun has some conjecture regarding the Keeper of Knowledge's Acting Rules.
The Keeper of Knowledge likely means guarding knowledge, yet this sequence also bears the title "Detective"; although the abilities suit a detective, it should also relate to acting.
Regarding the detective, Lei Kedun understands it as being able to reasonably and fully employ one's own knowledge to achieve goals, focusing more on the use of knowledge.
"I just don't know which of these two guesses is more correct, or maybe both?" Leikdun wondered in his heart.
He let out a light sigh, temporarily setting aside his guesses about the Knowledge Keeper, then Leikdun picked up the magic potion application he had prepared and handed it to Captain Yikangdun.
"The Knowledge Keeper's magic potion application has been submitted; once the Rabbit Cultivator's potion is mostly digested, it'll be time to leave Ma Dan, first heading to the sea and then to Bekland." Leikdun made his plans for afterward in his mind.
