Chapter 47: Couldn't Think of a Title (Please Vote!!)
Today the squad members arrived in full; earlier, Mr. Kesi, who was cleaning pollution on Hawk Street in the city's northwest, and his group also remained in the office.
"Teacher Kesi, has the polluted area on Hawk Street been cleared?" Lei Kedun, seeing all squad members seated at their places, couldn't help but curiously ask the Kesi closest to him.
"It's almost all cleared, only the recycling aspect remains; the Earth Church doesn't need our help with this," Mr. Kesi said, a rare smile appearing on his face.
"By the way, how have you been getting through those books lately?" Kesi, recalling the task he assigned to Lei Kedun, asked another question.
"Um, I've read some; I can already use Dragon Tongue, Hermes Tongue, and Ancient Hermes Tongue proficiently, as well as the commonly used Dutan Tongue and Fusk Tongue," Lei Kedun replied reflexively, as if his teacher were checking his homework.
"Hmm, very good. Starting with various languages will make it easier for you to read many untranslated books," Kesi nodded approvingly.
"Ha ha, right? I thought the same," Lei Kedun felt that the phrase 'forced smile' suited him perfectly at that moment.
Lei Kedun could only regret inwardly; with so many people in the office, why did he have to go to Kesi for questions?
Fortunately, Kesi didn't keep pressing; after a few comments, he stopped discussing the reading topic, and Lei Kedun immediately slipped away from Kesi's side.
Returning to his seat, he stroked the rabbit while discussing its new magic ideas with Tu Ba Ge.
Indeed, this curious, performance‑driven rabbit is no longer limited to the few tricks attached to the Great Magician's sealed top hat; it is already thinking of developing new magic using that sealed artifact.
At Lei Kedun's suggestion, Tu Ba Ge used the sealed artifact's Apprentice Path door‑opening ability fixed on the hat to perform a 'Great Transforming Rabbit' magic on Lei Kedun's desk.
Lei Kedun had to admire the rabbit's thinking; the first idea for the magic was to crawl into the hat himself, rather than first trying other objects.
After being sealed, the hat gained a weakness: you can't place a book inside it; as soon as a book is put in, the sealed artifact instantly becomes an ordinary hat, losing all abilities.
Lei Kedun could only think to himself, "Knowledge makes even hats decay!"
"Does this rabbit still have the Apprentice Path ability?" Jie Si Ka asked curiously, having seen the Great Transforming Rabbit scene.
"No, that's the hat's ability," Lei Kedun shook his head and explained.
"The hat is still a magical item? No, you should say you gave a magical item to a rabbit to wear as a hat?" Jie Si Ka felt increasingly unable to understand this new squad member.
"The magical item's ability is rather useless to me, but just right for it," Lei Kedun explained.
As the Seeker of Secrets Path advanced to Combat Scholar, Lei Kedun's mastery of his body improved greatly; the only useful effect of the sealed artifact for him became likewise trivial. Though the sealed artifact possesses many effects, none are strong.
"Tsk tsk~ Didn't expect our little Lei Kedun to be a hidden wealthy person!" Xi Ya lazily teased from her chair.
"This is my only magical item, and it's a useless one, only good as a rabbit's toy," Lei Kedun said wordlessly.
"But I don't even have a single magical item! That's really heartbreaking," Jie Si Ka said sadly.
Lei Kedun thought the only two ladies in the squad were drama queens; besides Xi Ya, even the big‑sister‑type Jie Si Ka was the same.
"It must be Xi Ya who corrupted her," Lei Kedun muttered inwardly.
"Don't mutter about me in your head! I can tell," Jie Si Ka whispered.
Lei Kedun's expression froze instantly, feeling his embarrassment could fill three rooms and a hall; nothing is more awkward than having an inner snark discovered.
"Do you usually use your mind‑reader ability like this?" This time Lei Kedun said it out loud instead of thinking.
"The audience's instinct to observe others is hard to curb, just as readers like to answer people's questions," Jie Si Ka accurately ribbed everyone in the Executor Squad except herself.
"And the Seeker of Secrets' curiosity, the thief's habit of never leaving empty‑handed, the Diviner's need to divine before deciding—each path seems to have instincts etched in it," Lei Kedun's thoughts drifted away.
"Did my words remind you of anything?" Jie Si Ka asked curiously.
"I just thought of a saying: if a Diviner doesn't divine, they won't know whether to step out with the left or right foot," Lei Kedun suddenly came up with a jab at Diviners.
"Interesting saying; although I've met fewer than two Diviners in total, they indeed are like that," Jie Si Ka nodded in agreement.
"Diviner? What path is that? Why haven't I heard of it?" Qiao Xi approached with curiosity.
"The Diviner Path is mainly held by the Secret Cultivation Society, and the Night Church has a few Diviners; you should read more of the Church's related materials," the learning‑loving Yue Se Fu answered Qiao Xi's question.
"Sigh, how did you, so young, end up living with an old‑man's feeling?" Qiao Xi sighed.
Yue Se Fu was deeply hurt by Qiao Xi's words, and the two immediately began a debate in the office about loving learning versus loving life.
The rest of the squad turned into onlookers, watching the commotion, while Xi Ya and Jie Si Ka occasionally stoked the fire for the two.
"Ladies and gentlemen, let's play a game; I just thought of a fun twist," Lei Kedun interrupted the squad's spectating.
"What game?" Mentioning a game instantly shifted Jie Si Ka's attention.
Pushed to the brink by the provocation, Qiao Xi and Yue Se Fu breathed a sigh of relief, realizing they'd long been used as entertainment by Xi Ya and Jie Si Ka.
"I call it Werewolf Murder," Lei Kedun said with a mysterious air.
"Then how will you tell us? Want to talk with me and Jie Si Ka alone? It's not forbidden, but you can only pick one at a time!" Xi Ya, the seasoned driver, inadvertently pulled Lei Kedun into the car.
"No! No! Just say it," Lei Kedun shook his head repeatedly.
"What? Do you look down on them? Or do you look down on our Jie Si Ka?" Xi Ya said with a teasing, nonstop tone.
While Tu Ba Ge was performing the Great Transforming Rabbit on the table, only a head protruded from the hat as a spectator, its lower body hidden in the table drawer via the hat's door‑opening effect.
Lei Kedun opened the drawer beneath the desk and pulled the rabbit out: "Stop hiding; you'll be the judge later!"
"Let me first explain the game rules!" Lei Kedun began to shift the topic.
"Don't change the subject! You haven't answered my question yet!" Xi Ya said with a grin.
"Huh? What did you say? My ears just went blind, I didn't see," Lei Kedun pretended to be dead amid Xi Ya and Jie Si Ka's anger.
"Heh~ How unenergetic!" Xi Ya said disdainfully.
"Your topic‑shifting technique was a bit off, but it did let you slip by," Jie Si Ka said, also smiling.
"Ha ha~" Lei Kedun could only laugh, reaching to wipe nonexistent cold sweat from his forehead.
