Chapter 63: Hard-to-Swallow Potion
Lei Kedun, leaning against the carriage with his eyes closed, wasn't sleeping but was recalling the memory of when divinity controlled his body. He always felt that his condition back then was somewhat strange, as if someone was playing for him.
If it were truly just one aspect of divinity, the simplest approach would be to directly reveal the rank of Sequence Two; that werewolf would then lose control and die immediately.
But at that time I only displayed the abilities of Sequence Four, as if trying to minimize the impact on myself as much as possible, so I wouldn't lose control or be overwhelmed by divinity over my humanity.
"This approach doesn't look like something divinity would worry about when controlling a body, so who is playing for me? The Knowledge Wilderness? Unlikely, it's still sealed; this operation is too difficult. The Hidden Sage? But why would they?" Lei Kedun kept guessing in his heart.
Lei Kedun pondered for a long time but couldn't find a reason for the Hidden Sage to do this, so he could only temporarily give up.
"You two, stop pretending to sleep; we've already arrived at the Knowledge Church." Xiya's voice interrupted Lei Kedun's contemplation.
"Huh? So fast! Xiya sis, why are we at the Knowledge Church? Aren't we going back to the squad?" Lei Kedun asked doubtfully.
"The werewolf's characteristics should be handed over to the Church for handling, and your mental injury also needs potion treatment; of course, if you feel you don't need it, I won't force you." Xiya waved her hand and said as she walked into the church.
"Needed, of course needed!" Lei Kedun hurriedly followed.
When mentioning mental injury, Lei Kedun's head ached; this was already the friendliest way to handle it for himself. Lei Kedun couldn't even imagine how miserable he'd be if the Hidden Sage weren't so friendly to him.
There were too many people in the church, so Tu Ba Ge could only pretend to be an ordinary pet rabbit. Lei Kedun originally wanted it to perch on his shoulder as before, but Xiya actually said she wasn't feeling well and simply scooped Tu Ba Ge up into her arms.
Lei Kedun looked at the rabbit's humanized look of fright and almost laughed out loud.
In Xiya's arms, Tu Ba Ge was like a dead rabbit, making no movement at all, even breathing cautiously.
"It seems the repeated feather-plucking of the parrot also left this rabbit with psychological trauma." Lei Kedun sighed in his heart.
Lei Kedun followed Xiya to the clergy's restroom at the innermost part of the church. Bishop An Ge Man Jin was already waiting there for Lei Kedun and Xiya.
"Good afternoon, Your Excellency Bishop!" Xiya gave a salute to the bishop, tracing the shape of the Eye of Omniscience with her right hand at chest level.
"Good afternoon, Your Excellency Bishop!" Lei Kedun followed Xiya in making the same salute.
When facing the bishop, Xiya was completely unlike her usual self, like a mischievous female student pretending to be a good girl in front of her teacher.
"Good afternoon, both of you!" Bishop An Ge Man Jin returned the same greeting to the two.
"Your Excellency Bishop, when I rushed over, the werewolf of the Rose School had already been killed by an unknown Sequence Five or demigod." After the greeting, Xiya went straight to the point.
"One strike killed him; the werewolf showed no signs of resistance, and the opponent also completely healed Lei Kedun's fatal wounds in a short time." Xiya said this while glancing sideways at Lei Kedun standing nearby.
"Hmm, I understand." Bishop An Ge Man Jin glanced at the several torn tears on Lei Kedun's clothes and the hole in his chest, seemingly already able to tell what kind of attack Lei Kedun had suffered.
Xiya then took out the werewolf's extraordinary characteristic; after Bishop An Ge Man Jin took a look, he closed the box.
"This characteristic has been polluted by the evil god power believed in by the Rose School; it cannot be directly used as the main ingredient for a magic potion or crafted into an extraordinary weapon, and can only be used after certain purification." Bishop An Ge Man Jin gave his evaluation.
He then said: "Just leave it with the Church; the Church will record the corresponding merit on you."
Xiya and Lei Kedun naturally had no objection to this; after all, keeping it themselves would be useless, so it's better to exchange it with the Church for something else.
However, Xiya actually didn't mention the existence of that sealed item on the werewolf's body; it seems she intends to help Lei Kedun pocket that sealed item.
"Lei Kedun, wait here a moment; I'll go prepare a potion to treat your spiritual injury. Your mental state needs to be adjusted, otherwise tomorrow's promotion will have to be postponed." Bishop An Ge Man Jin said simply, turning his gaze to Lei Kedun.
"Promotion? Have you already digested the characteristics of the Reasoning Apprentice and the Reader?" Xiya looked at Lei Kedun with a face full of disbelief.
Lei Kedun spread his hands helplessly: "That previous highness dragged me around, and I learned too much; the Reasoning Apprentice was digested at the time, then something unexpected happened, I saw some things, and the Reader was also digested."
"Are you provoking me? If so, you've certainly succeeded; once you become a Keeper of Knowledge, I'll help you quickly adapt to the enhancement brought by the magic potion." Xiya said in a subtle tone.
"Ahaha, this little thing just troubles you, Xiya sis." Lei Kedun instantly gave in.
Bishop An Ge Man Jin smiled at this scene, then left the restroom to go prepare a potion to treat Lei Kedun's spiritual injury.
"Xiya sis, was Bishop An Ge Man Jin your former teacher?" Lei Kedun asked curiously.
"You noticed that?" Xiya did not deny.
Lei Kedun nodded and said: "You behave completely differently in front of Bishop An Ge Man Jin than you do in front of us; the difference is huge, and at a glance it's clear you're acting like a well-behaved student in front of a teacher."
"So you think I'm very mischievous?" Xiya's gaze toward Lei Kedun took on a more dangerous meaning.
"What? Don't twist my meaning! I just meant you're more natural in front of us." Lei Kedun felt Xiya was just looking for an excuse to take it out on him.
"How boring! It seems I won't get a chance to leave a deep impression on you before leaving Ma Dan." Xiya sighed.
"Leave Ma Dan?" Lei Kedun wondered.
"Yeah! Don't you think this small city's execution squad has two Sequences?" Xiya said.
"Isn't our squad abnormal?" Lei Kedun retorted doubtfully.
"I'm just temporarily staying here; this time Ma Dan has had so many consecutive incidents, I'll likely be transferred to investigate this matter." Xiya said with reluctance.
"It's for a better reunion later." Bishop An Ge Man Jin had already prepared the potion and returned.
"Since you, Your Excellency Bishop, have said that, it seems the Church has indeed sent me to investigate this matter." Xiya said without surprise.
"Yes, the corresponding notice will come down tomorrow." Bishop An Ge Man Jin nodded.
Afterward, the bishop handed Lei Kedun a bottle of light-gold potion: "Drink it, go get some sleep, and you'll be fully recovered tomorrow."
"Hmm." Lei Kedun nodded.
He reached out to take the potion from Bishop An Ge Man Jin, opened the stopper, and tilted his head back to gulp it down. Lei Kedun's expression froze for a moment; how could such a good-looking potion be so hard to swallow?
Lei Kedun felt it was like drinking a mouthful of mixed juice of coptis, hawthorn, and monk fruit—sweet, bitter, and astringent, a hard-to-describe texture, but it really was hard to swallow.
Lei Kedun didn't know whether to feel relieved or upset that he'd actually chugged it all. If he were glad, not finishing it in one go would make him feel he couldn't swallow it; if he were sad, it's truly hard to swallow.
"How smart! You actually knew to chug it all at once, not giving your mouth a chance to regret." Xiya nodded in praise from the side.
Lei Kedun's face turned pale; he kept his mouth shut, really afraid that if he opened it he couldn't help but vomit.
"Haha, this potion for treating spiritual injury is the most effective, although the taste is somewhat indescribable." Bishop An Ge Man Jin explained.
"Your Excellency Bishop, how is that merely indescribable? This is clearly secondary harm!" Lei Kedun loudly complained in his heart.
