Chapter 64: I can't think of a title (begging for votes!!)
After drinking the potion given by Bishop Angeman, Leiketon rested a while in the lounge, then waited for Xiya and the bishop to finish their talk before leaving the church together with Xiya.
Before leaving, Bishop Angeman enthusiastically told Leiketon that if he ever needed potions later, he could come to the church to find him.
Leiketon suspected that Bishop Angeman was looking for someone to test his potions, having them drink first and then write a tasting note.
"How? Were you scared by the bishop's enthusiasm?" After leaving the church, Xiya returned to her usual demeanor.
Leiketon's mouth twitched: "Does Bishop Angeman really like researching all kinds of potions?"
"Yo~ Our little Leiketon is pretty smart!" Xiya teased him before saying, "The bishop indeed likes researching these, but because he focuses too much on effect, the taste is often outrageous."
"So the healing effect of a potion is inversely proportional to its taste?" Leiketon was somewhat speechless.
Leiketon felt that the bishop's enthusiasm was really just to get him to be a test subject.
"You actually didn't tell me beforehand about such important information!" Leiketon looked at Xiya, wanting to complain but not daring to.
"I'm not worried you wouldn't believe me; only after experiencing it yourself can you understand why the bishop's potions can only be used in emergencies." Xiya said this insincerely.
Leiketon didn't respond; the complex taste in his mouth continued to stimulate his taste buds.
"By the way, it's almost time to get off work; let's part here. I need to go home and pack, and my beautiful sister Xiya is about to leave this city." Xiya waved her hand, feigning sentimentality.
"No problem, but I still owe you a meal. Want to go eat now?" Leiketon recalled that when Xiya had given him Tu Ba Ge, he had promised to treat her to barbecue.
However, Leiketon had originally planned to invite Xiya to his home to taste Aunt Shali's cooking, but now that Mother Yi Sha Bei Er had returned, doing so would be inappropriate.
"What are we waiting for? Let's go—I thought you'd forgotten about owing me that barbecue!" Xiya immediately changed her tone, as if she'd been waiting for Leiketon to say that.
"Impossible—I could forget any promise, but never the one I made to you, Sister Xiya!" Leiketon shook his head.
"Are you being so slick today just to trick me into taking a shortcut, Sister?" Xiya said with an incredulous expression.
Leiketon felt a string of black lines appear on his head, and he resignedly said, "Cut it out! Sis."
"Looks like that's not it after all—guess my charm just isn't enough." Xiya said in a tone of disappointment and sorrow.
Xiya always manages to perfectly control her tone and demeanor, and even her offhand remarks can stir others' emotions.
"Tsk tsk… I think if you walked the witch's path, you'd definitely be an angel." Leiketon silently muttered in his mind.
"I feel like you're thinking something unfriendly in your heart?" Xiya gave Leiketon a doubtful glance and remarked.
"Impossible! Do I really seem like that kind of person in your heart, Sister Xiya?" Leiketon mimicked Xiya's feigned sad tone and expression.
"Aren't you, then?" Xiya replied without mercy.
Leiketon had nothing to say, so he decisively changed the subject: "Before we go eat barbecue, I need to buy a set of clothes; this outfit torn up by werewolves isn't fit to wear home."
"What do you mean? Are you little brother Leiketon still wanting to bring me home to meet your parents? Isn't that moving too fast?" Xiya said, feigning coyness.
"Heh! Sister Xiya, the veteran driver, never disappoints with her speed." Leiketon muttered inwardly.
Keeping a resigned expression on his face, he said, "I'm just worried that if it's too late, the clothing stores will be closed."
"Oh, it's not that then!" Xiya looked utterly disappointed.
Leiketon suddenly felt that asking Xiya to eat with him had been a terrible mistake, and he sensed the meal would be painful to get through.
Eventually, accompanied by Xiya, Leiketon went to a nearby clothing store, bought a set of clothes, and replaced the outer jacket that the werewolf's claws had ruined.
"Yo~ I didn't expect our little Leiketon to look so presentable after changing clothes!" Xiya said with a light laugh.
"Are you trying to say I usually don't wear clothes, or that I'm not even human?" Leiketon felt that being around Xiya made her act more and more shameless.
"Let's go—I know there's a nice restaurant around here, but it's too expensive; I usually can't bring myself to go, but today I can finally enjoy a proper meal." Xiya didn't pick up on Leiketon's remark.
"I'm starting to regret it—I feel like this year's pocket money is doomed." Leiketon complained.
"Don't worry, sister will definitely sort out your wallet's troubles!" Xiya placed heavy emphasis on the four words "sort out your worries."
In the end, Xiya truly lived up to her words; at the restaurant she brought them to, the two of them plus one rabbit spent a total of 103 gold risse.
Leiketon felt not only his wallet but also his heart were weeping. This meal cost almost as much as half the price of the main ingredient for a Sequence Nine Magic Medicine.
More importantly, for Leiketon, who still lacks financial independence, this was one of his few sources of pocket money.
"Good thing the New Year is coming soon—I can get a hefty red envelope from my parents." Leiketon consoled himself inwardly.
"Looks like that expense was still within your budget; if I'd known, I'd have eaten more!" Xiya said, licking her lips, still unsatisfied.
"Any more and I'd have to sell the rabbit to pay off debt." Leiketon's mouth twitched as he said this helplessly.
"Waaah~ Can't sell the rabbit—I'm just an ordinary lop‑earred bunny, not worth much, hic~" Tu Ba Ge, perched on Leiketon's shoulder, defended himself.
That final hiccup wasn't convincing at all; Tu Ba Ge promptly buried his head in Leiketon's collar and played dead.
"Haha! This rabbit is truly fun, far more interesting than my home's parrot, which can only lie and otherwise does nothing—its feathers are just prettier." Xiya suddenly thought of something, burst out laughing, and spoke while laughing.
"So you plucked the parrot's feathers to make a cape, and even applied hair‑growth potion while plucking? Nice work! I'd also like a multicolored cape." Leiketon mentally echoed Xiya's words but didn't say them aloud.
"See you tomorrow, Sister Xiya—I'm heading home first." Leiketon waved goodbye to Xiya, then found a carriage and returned home.
After arriving home, Leiketon made the excuse that Tu Ba Ge was peckish and had already eaten his fill outside.
Mother Yi Sha Bei Er was a bit disappointed she couldn't have dinner with her son, but after Leiketon left Tu Ba Ge to keep her company, she tossed her son to the back of her mind. A grown son is nowhere near as cute as a little rabbit!
After returning to his room, Leiketon found an empty iron box, placed inside the sealed item he had taken from the madman of the Rose Academy, and then quickly entered deep sleep through meditation.
Although after drinking the potion prepared by Bishop Angeman Leiketon felt his mental fog lift considerably, he still decided to use deep sleep to replenish his spirit to ensure tomorrow's promotion would go smoothly.
When Leiketon woke from sleep, it was already early morning the next day, and he felt his whole spirit had become much more lively.
It seemed that Bishop Angeman's potion from yesterday had not only healed his mental damage but also strengthened his mental state.
Leiketon pulled off the blanket that had somehow been covering him, got up from bed, stretched, and then went to the washroom to clean up.
The Tu Ba Ge sleeping on the infant bed at the side was awakened by Leiketon's movements, rubbing his red eyes as he crawled out of his little nest.
After finishing breakfast at home, Leiketon eagerly brought Tu Ba Ge to the Knowledge Cathedral.
Bishop Angeman was already preaching to the congregation in the church; when Leiketon arrived, he did not go forward to disturb the bishop, found a seat at the back, and listened to the bishop's sermon.
"My Lord is wisdom, is reason, is salvation at the coming of the apocalypse."
Leiketon didn't know why listening to Bishop Angeman's sermon gave him the feeling of being back in university hearing a professor's lecture.
All he could do was sigh, "I guess this is just a characteristic of the Knowledge Church."
