Chapter 67: Role Guidelines

~7 min read 1,300 words

Although it's supposed to be a holiday for the squad members, in fact only Lei Keton and Yue Se Fu were given the day off, and Xi Ya herself is leaving the squad today.

Tu Ba Ge perched on Lei Keton's shoulder, eating the freshly bought fruit, and suddenly thought that even without a promotion there was no problem, since Lei Keton could buy whatever it wanted, so why bother growing it itself?

Lei Keton didn't know what the rabbit on his shoulder was thinking, otherwise from today on the rabbit would have to grow all its own food.

The group followed Xi Ya around the city all morning, and finally had lunch together.

"Alright, I'm leaving, Captain, and you two big boys shouldn't be too sad!" Xi Ya waved without looking back and walked straight ahead.

"Do you see us smiling so happily, looking a bit sad?" Lei Keton shouted toward Xi Ya's retreating figure.

"Ouch~" Lei Keton, after shouting, was suddenly squeezed hard by a pair of Invisible Servant giant hands, staggered, and fell to the ground.

"What is that?" Lei Keton, lying on the ground with a bewildered face, looked around but saw nothing.

"When Xi Ya left just now, she left an Invisible Servant here, ready to receive commands," Captain Yi Kang Dun said with an unhidden smile.

The Tu Ba Ge that was knocked off Lei Keton's shoulder picked up the two fallen fruits and then silently moved a short distance away from Lei Keton.

"Captain, you saw it—why didn't you warn me?" Lei Keton was especially speechless.

He finally mustered the courage to retort to Xi Ya, only to be punished.

"I thought you would have thought of that; Xi Ya left so directly, how could she not leave a little trick for you!" Captain Yi Kang Dun chuckled while explaining.

"Careless, no dodge! And, Captain, why did you also learn the bad habit from Xi Ya?" Lei Keton muttered loudly in his mind.

Yue Se Fu, watching the scene from the side, silently lowered his presence; he had actually been ready to speak arrogantly a moment ago.

"Good thing Lei Keton was a step ahead of me!" Yue Se Fu thought with some relief.

After this little incident, the remaining three members of the squad all returned to the squad office.

"I said today you have a day off, you don't have to go back to the office," Captain Yi Kang Dun said to Yue Se Fu and Lei Keton, who had followed him back to the squad office.

"Captain! You forgot I still have to promote to Sequence Eight today," Yue Se Fu explained.

"Captain, I also need to write a list of required materials and take some books home to read," Lei Keton added.

"Hmm." Captain Yi Kang Dun nodded, saying nothing more.

After Lei Keton wrote down the extraordinary materials he needed at his desk, he handed the list to the captain, then took a few books and, with Tu Ba Ge, went home.

After being promoted to Guardian of Knowledge, Lei Keton kept pondering how to fulfill the role; although he digested some of the magic elixir when he first drank it, he didn't know which of his previous actions matched the Guardian's role guidelines.

"Literally, does 'Guardian of Knowledge' mean a protector of knowledge? What counts as protecting knowledge?" Lei Keton muttered.

"Learn all knowledge?" Tu Ba Ge replied from Lei Keton's shoulder.

"Learn all knowledge? Until when would that be? And wouldn't that just make you a reader?" Lei Keton shook his head, rejecting Tu Ba Ge's suggestion.

"I'm just a rabbit; how could I understand such profound questions," Tu Ba Ge shook his head and fell silent.

"Don't understand?" Lei Keton whispered softly, a flash of inspiration crossing his mind.

"The best way to protect knowledge is to spread it!" Lei Keton felt he had grasped the key to the Guardian's role.

"Whoa~ why?" Tu Ba Ge felt completely confused.

"Try it when we get back, and you'll see. I'll tell you some obscure knowledge you don't yet know, and see if it helps me digest part of the magic elixir," Lei Keton said, becoming more convinced as he thought.

"I don't have to read the books myself?" Tu Ba Ge's eyes lit up.

"No need! You just need to remember what I say," Lei Keton nodded.

Lei Keton hurriedly took Tu Ba Ge back home and began organizing the knowledge of the extraordinary world he knew.

Tu Ba Ge sat at the desk, eyes unblinking, staring at Lei Keton, eager to know what knowledge his leader was about to tell him.

"I don't know yet what's best to tell you right now, so I'll first explain the division of the Sequence pathways and see if it helps me digest the Guardian's magic elixir," Lei Keton mused.

"Our world has twenty‑two Sequence pathways, discovered after the first profane stone slab appeared. By ingesting the magic elixir one ascends the life tier and ultimately becomes a god, so this evolutionary route is called the Divine Path," Lei Keton explained the essence of the elixir pathway.

"Twenty‑two? That's a lot?" Tu Ba Ge exclaimed.

"Shouldn't your focus be on ultimately becoming a god?" Lei Keton thought there was indeed a generation gap between rabbit and human.

"But I'm just a rabbit; why should I worry about becoming a god?" Tu Ba Ge also found it hard to understand human thinking.

Lei Keton didn't argue about the focus; he specifically explained to the rabbit all twenty‑two Divine Paths, the interchangeability of adjacent paths, and even briefed it on the saints and angels.

Even after explaining so much, Lei Keton only felt a faint sign of the magic elixir digesting inside him, but it hadn't fully digested; something still seemed missing.

"Can you grasp the meaning of this information?" Lei Keton asked the rabbit with some doubt.

Tu Ba Ge shook his head and whispered, "So complicated, I can't understand at all; I'm just a rabbit!"

Lei Keton felt a bit helpless, but he had figured out the Guardian's method: acquire knowledge, spread knowledge, with the requirement that the recipient must fully understand it for the transmission to count as successful.

"At this stage, the role requires ample interaction with others!" Lei Keton sighed inwardly.

Tu Ba Ge watched Lei Keton's furrowed brows, nervous, and said, "Leader, haven't you digested the magic elixir?"

"No, unless you truly understand what I explained, I won't get any feedback," Lei Keton shook his head.

"Then how do we digest the magic elixir? By becoming teachers for people?" Tu Ba Ge asked curiously.

"Be a teacher? That's an idea; perhaps we can proactively embed information in conversations, and if the other party understands, it could count as a role," Lei Keton thought, following Tu Ba Ge's suggestion.

"Then how long must I till the soil before I can fulfill the Farmer role?" Tu Ba Ge was curious about his progress.

"At least we have to wait until the seeds you sowed bear fruit, right?" Lei Keton guessed.

Tu Ba Ge's rabbit face showed a human‑like shocked expression; the seeds had only just sprouted since being planted, and it would be several months before harvest.

"Can we accelerate the newly sprouted seeds?" Tu Ba Ge asked cautiously.

"You even know about ripening? I'm not sure either; let's find time to ask Usel of the Earth Church," Lei Keton shook his head, feeling the rabbit's imagination was bigger than his own.

"When are we going to see Usel?" Tu Ba Ge asked eagerly.

Lei Keton looked at the anxious rabbit, helplessly reached out and pulled it onto his shoulder, preparing to go out to the Earth Church to find the harvest priest Usel.
