Chapter 726: Mr. Men

~8 min read 1,578 words

She paused, and Biernade's tone, unusually, carried some emotion as she said:

"Father has already reached an agreement with Black Night; the unique 'Judgment' that evolved into the Trelunost Brass Book will belong to Nanintis, but we must find Laryon ourselves and retrieve it."

"And as the price of the deal, he must leave reality, go to the Star Realm to establish a Divine Kingdom, fill the vacancy left by the Lord of the Storm and the War God, and together with Black Night, the Eternal Blazing Sun and other righteous deities, block the Outer Star Gods' erosion and infiltration of the Primordial Barrier."

"It is inevitable; the Seven Gods have shifted too much, and the Divine Kingdoms in the Star Realm that patch the barrier are hard to sustain, so new deities must step in."

Rekton nodded, not surprised that Black Night had sent Roselle to the Star Realm to seal the rift.

If the fallen Lord of the Storm remains in the Star Realm, staying in the Storm Abyss, it will only be corrupted by the Outer Gods and become part of their incursion into reality.

There are few beings capable of replacing the Lord of the Storm and the War God; compared to the True Creator, the Eternal Hunting Sun and the God of Knowledge and Wisdom are undoubtedly more inclined toward Roselle.

While pondering, Rekton spoke up to remind:

"As a backup for the War God's resurrection, the former Grand Patriarch may possess the 'Hand of the Divine' trait; Black Night and Lilith, eager to end the Divine War quickly, will not deliberately intercept these traits."

Biernade lightly nodded and said, "I will keep an eye on it; in this matter, Arianna, the abbot of the Black Night Monastery, will also provide some assistance."

Rekton nodded, sidestepped the topic, and asked, "Having just completed the coronation ceremony and gone to the Star Realm, what state is Nanintis in now?"

"The subsequent affairs have been handed to Bonova and Naste; in father's words, this is a kind of training for them, and once the ceremony is complete, they can at any time ascend to Enlightener and Duke of Entropy."

Biernade spoke as if in casual chat; she suddenly paused, looked at Lawrence beside her—this Abraham family 'traveler' had regained consciousness and is now a half‑human, half‑divine 'Mystic'.

Having reacquainted himself with his body, Lawrence grasped at the void with his right hand; the space before him was instantly shrouded in shadow, warped, split into two, and one half concealed.

This spatial alteration was silent and left no objective marker, but upon close inspection the thickets along the road appeared slightly closer.

The concealment lasted less than two seconds, and everything returned to normal.

After materializing his body, Lawrence's figure suddenly became ethereal, turning into one illusory door after another, layer upon layer, countless in number.

His body repeatedly appeared behind one door after another, as if walking in the crevice of reality—seemingly within reach yet impossible to touch.

Having exhausted all his extraordinary abilities, Lawrence finally stopped, walked to Rekton's side, and, unable to hide his excitement, said:

"Since the Fifth Era, no 'Mystic' has emerged from the Abraham family for over a thousand years; today, after more than a millennium, I have finally succeeded!"

"At last, I can ask the question that has plagued our family for millennia."

"The answer may not be as terrible or astonishing as you imagine."

Rekton timely offered a reminder, but Lawrence, immersed in his own emotions, did not hear it.

Seeing this, Rekton shook his head slightly; persistence can always overcome reason, and some matters can only be satisfied by uncovering them oneself.

He turned to Biernade and said, "Create a full‑moon effect for him; this is the regret that has lingered in the Abraham family for one to two thousand years."

"Mr. Men?" Biernade nodded knowingly, saying little else.

She harbored little goodwill, even some disgust, toward the 'Mr. Men' who had once lured her father to the moon, leading to his contamination; had it not been for the pollution, her father would not have undergone such a drastic change and the subsequent events.

Starlight specks spilled from her fingertips, gathered in the air, tinged with crimson, forming an illusory red moon.

Although the full‑moon effect was crafted using her own occult knowledge, the moon created by the angelic Biernade is no less than that of the 'Crimson Scholars'.

The crimson moonlight bathed them, and familiar babbling again echoed in Lawrence's ears.

Unlike before, this time he finally heard clearly what the other was saying; though the voice was vague, it continuously stimulated his mind, causing his head to throb and sting, yet it remained tolerable.

"Save me, save."

"Don't save me, don't save me, don't."

Lawrence's complexion turned pale and feeble, caught between wanting to laugh and to cry. His body trembled uncontrollably, and in a choked tone he said, "So the cause of our family's millennial decline is this—a mere cry for help."

Looking at the sorrowful Lawrence, Rekton whispered, "It's not a full moon yet; this is when He is at his best state—you can try communicating with Him."

He exhaled a long breath, Lawrence nodded and said, "I understand; the reason you happen to appear here at this moment is to guard against me doing something irrational, such as helping Mr. Men return to reality?"

"Rest assured, although it is the Abraham family's millennial longing, I have not lost my sanity because of it."

Rekton shook his head and explained, "Mr. Men's return is inevitable, and it won't be long."

Lawrence stared at Rekton for a while before withdrawing his gaze; he neither believed nor questioned, yet seemed to have aged considerably in those two minutes.

He sighed deeply again, centered his mind, clasped his hands, focused, and earnestly prayed, "Great Gate of Ten Thousand Doors, guide of the endless starry sky, key to all mysterious realms."

"Great Gate of Ten Thousand Doors"

After reciting Mr. Men's honorific twice, Lawrence suddenly halted, his gaze a bit vacant, tilting his head slightly as if listening intently.

Rekton and Biernade exchanged glances, neither speaking.

Under the increasingly deep crimson moonlight, specks of starlight floated up, oscillating rhythmically, tracing one symbol after another, amplifying Mr. Men's whispers on Lawrence and echoing around:

"For over a thousand years, finally another member of the Abraham family can converse with me."

"You, what is your name?"

The voice sounded normal, even kindly, completely different from the earlier shrieks of 'save me' or 'don't save me', as if it were a different person.

A flicker of doubt crossed Lawrence's eyes; the tumult of emotions prevented deeper thought, and he replied, "Lawrence, Lawrence Nord Abraham."

"Lawrence, I have noted it."

"As a descendant of the Abraham family, I can barely discern certain aspects of you: your body appears to have suffered severe injury before; although healed by the Mystic's alchemical reconstruction, some effects remain, and your lifespan will be shorter than that of a typical half‑god."

"To resolve this, the best path is to continue ascending to become an Angel; I recall the Abraham family still preserves several seals corresponding to the Travel Mage's traits. Apart from the 'Box of Old Days', the others are usable."

"Being able to become a half‑god in this era implies you have protection from certain beings; shattering a seal should not be a major issue."

The echoing voice made Lawrence's eyes involuntarily moist; Mr. Men's words sounded perfectly normal, seemingly without issue, had he not previously heard the other's desperate shrieks.

Lawrence, with a complex expression, nodded and said, "I know; I have no intention to continue ascending. I am old, my relatives have all passed; death is a release for me."

"What has driven me to ascend to half‑god is an obsession to ask you a question—a fixation and curse that has troubled the Abraham family for nearly two thousand years."

At his ear, Mr. Men sighed, his tone complex—regretful, helpless, sighing: "Lost deep within darkness and storm, my spirit has developed issues, often turning mad, constantly shrieking and shouting, transmitting messages outward."

"And as descendants of the Abraham family, you are undoubtedly the most receptive to hearing these sounds."

"But, regardless of my intent or cause, the disparity in stature means that those below half‑god level hear my voice as if it were a mad god's babble—crazy, uncontrolled."

"Only during a full moon does my mental state improve, allowing me to temper my voice; yet that is also when my spirit is strongest and my connection to you deepest. Even if I strive to restrain it, some of the past shrieks and shouts will still leak through to your ears."

"This is the truth of the curse. You, can you accept it?"

Laolunsi shook his head blankly, his emotions somewhat uncontrollable as he said:

"I don't know, I just suddenly felt that our Yabolahan family's persistence over thousands of years is like a joke."

"No, your persistence is meaningful; at least, now you know the cause, you know the problem, then you can start thinking of ways to solve the problem."

"For example, you can have the rest of the family members like you, avoid my howling when I go mad, and live a normal life."

"Mr. Men's words were clear and logical, like a kind elder caring for juniors, not at all like they themselves said, often becoming mad."
