Chapter 728: Feast of Betrayal Unleashed
In the steam train station of Kangsi Dun City, stars appeared one after another, dense and dazzling, swiftly forming a swirling mass of Star Sand that completely enveloped the suddenly materialized steam train, melting it point by point.
The blackened surface of the steam train constantly shed fragments, exposing tangled cables beneath, which writhed and turned into a monster brandishing countless black tentacles.
Silently, the surrounding gravity intensified, and the ground beneath erupted with a massive suction that caused the buildings on the surface to collapse and cling tightly to the earth.
Even the starlight grew heavy, dripping down point by point, fully drawn to the ground, unable to rotate or float.
Freed from the starlight's restraint, the steam train disintegrated completely, turning into a heap of mechanical parts and countless cables that began to writhe and coalesce, forming a huge, snarling face whose features vaguely resembled Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun.
The gigantic face kept shifting, roaring and emitting piercing howls.
It kept swelling and sinking, simultaneously generating a powerful gravity that pulled surrounding objects toward it, which revolved around it, forming a terrifying "storm".
Above the gray mist, Ke Lai En rose from his seat and swiftly drew his gun to fire.
Bang! Bang! Bang! One after another, control‑spirit bullets shot out, passing through A Luodesi's prayer light points and embedding themselves in the ever‑tearing, ever‑gathering "storm" that surrounded everything.
The horror‑like "storm", which seemed capable of uprooting the entire Kangsi Dun City, suddenly stalled; the carriage, cargo, walls and bricks that had been rotating around it lost the pull of gravity and fell to the ground one by one.
Brilliant star‑glints surged, crawling out from cracks in the ground; fragments of starlight reconvened inside, revealing the figure of Lei Ke Dun.
He reached forward with a phantom grasp, pulling, and twilight light emerged, forming a long table and a line of silhouettes that solidified.
This is the scene of the Ancient Sun God being devoured, derived from the mysterious magic "Feast of Betrayal" created by the occult knowledge of the Ancient Sun God's death! "How bold, using this 'Mysterious Reappearance' without any secrecy—are they provoking the 'Eternal Blazing Sun', or are they provoking the 'True Creator'?"
Above the gray mist, Ke Lai En whispered a sigh; the images he saw through A Luodesi's prayer light points began to wobble, as if disturbed.
At the edge of the tabletop before him, on the still‑lying mirror, one silver‑white rune word after another in Runic script appeared:
"Many gazes are drawn to this 'Mysterious Reappearance', even the underlying rules of Kangsi Dun City's changes are being interfered with."
"Master, I think he, um, did it on purpose. This city gathers too many great figures, including the secret angels serving 'Night', Roselle Emperor's eldest daughter Bernarde, former Grand Patriarch of the War God Church Larian, former Grand Archbishop of the Steam Church Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun—this is clearly abnormal."
"He perhaps intends, through this 'Mysterious Reappearance', to contact those principals, attract more eyes of people and deities, and make this place even more chaotic."
Ke Lai En nodded, his tone calm, "That's possible."
Over the now‑vanished steam train station of Kangsi Dun City, as the scene of the Feast of Betrayal appeared, the huge face floating in mid‑air suddenly twitched, its whole visage twisting as if about to split.
The components that formed it became uncontrollable, as if each gear and coil birthed its own sentient mind, instinctively seeking to betray the whole and become independent.
Silently, the surrounding light dimmed, as if shrouded by an invisible shadow.
The betrayals of the many components on the massive face were twisted, amplified, and increasingly uncontrollable, splitting into separate entities, each sprouting a different human face and glaring at one another.
As the massive face fractured, the items once contained within it fell out: glittering gems that shone with starlight, golden mechanical gloves, and an ancient silver mirror with strange patterns. This separation of spirit and individual let Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun briefly regain a fragment of self; his eyes stared blankly around, at Lei Ke Dun, seemingly not understanding what had happened.
"Divine War. Polluted Starry Sky"
He muttered a few vague, broken sentences; only a single face of Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun remained, when his gaze suddenly turned to Lei Ke Dun and said:
"…are you here to kill me?"
Lei Ke Dun nodded, reached out and dragged from the void an ancient‑styled spear, its tip to hilt ablaze with clusters of dark‑red blood‑colored flames.
Without a word, the dark‑red spear, upon forming, flew from his hand, ignoring distance, and appeared directly at the forehead of Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun's face.
The blood‑colored dark‑red flame rose instantly, engulfing it completely, breaking it down point by point, and dissipating.
The attack was magnified countless times, immensely powerful, as if it could slay an angel outright.
The breath of Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun, pierced by the dark‑red spear, slipped away quickly, yet became caught when a foot stepped over the red line of death, preventing true death.
In the lord's mansion of Kangsi Dun City, a brass‑colored book began to turn pages on its own; then, mercury‑colored words floated up, autonomously compiling strict, tight legal clauses.
At the very bottom of the existing legal text, the mercury words simply wrote: "Death is prohibited here." This clause, involving the world's underlying rules, seemed to exhaust all its power, and the book that had been continuously compiling laws halted for a moment.
A pool of silvery liquid metal seeped out from the surrounding void, flowing rapidly, trying to envelop the brass book lying on the ground; the brass volume vanished the instant it was about to be enveloped.
Elsewhere, in the city's streets, the figures of Bernarde and A Li An Na emerged from the void one after another.
After the latter nodded to Bernarde, she calmly spoke:
"After modifying the underlying rules here, 0-02 seems to have quieted down; it may have temporarily exhausted its power."
"I am searching."
Bernarde replied calmly; her eyes emitted a deep‑blue‑purple radiance, sketching one mysterious symbol after another, rapidly gathering and deciphering the city's information.
With the boost of spiritual self‑awareness, she quickly found some abnormal, discordant data.
"In the lord's mansion, besides Larian and 0-02, there are others."
As soon as she finished, she and A Li An Na's silhouettes vanished simultaneously—one turned into a tangled pure information flow, the other erased as if wiped by an eraser.
After the death rule failed, Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun once again fell into madness; black cables sprouted from his head like tentacles, reaching into the separated faces, re‑linking them.
Under the influence of the 'Stars', their consciousness and spirit unified again, forming a single whole.
"No, not a complete unification; it's more like forcibly stitching together the parts twisted apart by Luo Sai Er."
As Lei Ke Dun whispered, the now‑mountain‑sized face of Huo Lami Ke Hai Dun displayed one different face after another, each struggling, roaring, with a bizarre rhythm.
In the sky, the stars suddenly glittered, growing brighter and larger.
The air smelled of burning, fierce friction sparks rang, and a scarlet meteor shower was summoned.
At the same time, disturbances in gravity and electromagnetism caused hidden passages in the void to become chaotic and sealed, making the ground's gravity surge; even those adept at flashing, the extraordinary, found themselves unable to move, forced to wait in place for the meteor shower's impact.
Silently, the falling meteors vanished one after another, as if erased from a canvas, leaving no trace.
In less than a minute, all meteors from the sky were wiped out; a disaster that had not truly arrived was easily resolved.
Inside Kangsi Dun City, everyone hid inside houses, in basements, or stared anxiously through windows, repeatedly praying to the deities, hoping this strange disaster would pass quickly and not affect them.
From the protruding‑belly windows of the city, dull, colorless, unbright lights highlighted themselves; anything touched by these lights silently disintegrated, turning into fragments that fell, even color evaporated in a flash.
In the attic of a three‑story house, two small heads pressed against the glass window, quietly observing the outside.
A teenage girl in a floral dress and a boy of eight or nine leaned over the attic window; the girl covered her mouth with one hand and the boy's mouth with the other, afraid to make any sound.
They had just seen a drunken man across the street shatter silently into a pile of colorless powder.
In their fearful eyes, a beam of light flew toward them.
The surroundings suddenly darkened, a layer of dim mist covering everything; the whole city fell into death‑like silence.
After a long quiet, the boy tentatively moved, then nudged the slightly older girl and asked, "Laditel, have we died?"
The girl called Ladi'er blankly shook her head: "Should, should not be, I also don't know."
In reality, the place where Kangsidun City originally was, the entire city has disappeared, leaving only a huge pit.
With the disappearance of Kangsidun City, the people originally hidden inside the city appeared one by one.
