Chapter 86: Wondrous Seed Bottle
Reiketon only realized once inside that the plants here were growing lushly, not at all looking like an experiment that had just recently begun.
Although he knew that with extraordinary abilities assisting, completing this kind of grafting experiment wouldn't take much time, Reiketon was still somewhat surprised to see many of the grafted plants around him already flowering and bearing fruit. The Earth Church's efficiency was far higher than he had imagined.
His own fat rabbit was angrily waving a branch with a withered vine on it. Not far off to the side, Yas and Archbishop Ashi Miya of the Harvest Cathedral were discussing something.
"Wah~ Boss, why are you here?" Tu Ba Ge spotted the incoming Reiketon and immediately bounced over, asking as he ran.
Reiketon glanced at the branch Tu Ba Ge was waving; the vine on it had completely withered—it was probably a failed experiment.
"I came to discuss a matter with Your Grace the Archbishop, and to check on the experiment's progress while I'm at it," Reiketon explained to the Archbishop of the Harvest Cathedral, who had already turned to look at him.
"Is it something urgent?" Archbishop Ashi Miya looked at Reiketon and asked in a very gentle voice.
"Yes, the Knowledge Church has a new mission for me, and I'll be leaving Fenport for a while. I plan to take this rabbit with me, so I won't be able to directly participate in the experiments here." Reiketon nodded and stated the reason he had prepared from the start.
"No problem. The experiments here are already on the right track, and you won't need to stay here all the time anymore. Yas can take charge of the experiments going forward." Archbishop Ashi Miya didn't ask for the reason, and didn't even hesitate before nodding and agreeing to Reiketon's request.
Reiketon was stunned for a moment. He had originally thought it would be rather troublesome to pull out and leave with Tu Ba Ge at this time, but he hadn't expected His Grace Archbishop Ashi Miya to agree so readily.
"I'm sorry, Your Grace." Though he didn't know why this archbishop was so easy to talk to, Reiketon still politely apologized.
"It's fine. Do you have your own messenger? Since you'll be leaving here, corresponding communication will be essential," Archbishop Ashi Miya asked.
Reiketon nodded and told the archbishop and Yas beside him how to use his messenger and the summoning incantation.
"Tomorrow I'll have Usel deliver a special mystical item to you. It can be used to preserve and cultivate seeds, and it will be very useful during your journey," Archbishop Ashi Miya added.
Hearing this, Reiketon's eyes lit up. He hadn't expected this archbishop to be so generous—giving him a mystical item before he had even said anything.
"What kind of mystical item?" Reiketon asked, very curious.
"Its name is the Wondrous Seed Bottle, and it hasn't been numbered yet. It can be used to collect and cultivate seeds. Its negative effects are minor—you only need to apply nectar to the mouth of the bottle when using it to avoid them." Archbishop Ashi Miya explained the mystical item called the Wondrous Seed Bottle.
Reiketon nodded and didn't ask for more details. He'd know once he got it anyway. The fact that it hadn't been numbered yet was somewhat surprising—perhaps this mystical item wasn't a Sealed Artifact.
After settling the matter of leaving Fenport with Archbishop Ashi Miya, Reiketon followed Yas and Tu Ba Ge to tour the results they had achieved during this period.
"Such high efficiency!" Reiketon remarked with admiration.
Although the results achieved weren't that many yet, the Earth Church's research on grafted crops was already fully on the right track.
The Earth Church's efficiency also made Reiketon realize that this kind of experiment wasn't particularly difficult for them. What they lacked was only an approach—because of the existence of Beyonders, they were instead prone to blind spots in areas they excelled at.
"Is the Earth Church planning to promote these two results on a large scale this year?" After touring the research results of Tu Ba Ge and the others, Reiketon asked out of curiosity.
"Of course! This is a wonderful opportunity to spread the Mother Goddess's radiance!" Yas raised his chin and said.
"Ahem! Mother Goddess?" Reiketon reminded this vampire.
"Cough! I meant the Earth Mother Goddess! Is there a problem with that?" Yas also realized what he had just blurted out, his expression turning somewhat uneasy as he tried hard to cover up his slip of the tongue.
"Are you questioning my faith in the Ancestor?!" Yas stared fiercely at Reiketon, genuinely wanting to force a bottle of Forgetfulness Potion down both the person and the rabbit before him.
"Of course not. You vampires' faith in the Ancestor is beyond question," Reiketon said, expressing his sincere inner thoughts.
Reiketon directly praised the behavior of all vampires, which Yas took very well—so much so that his complexion improved considerably.
Reiketon twitched the corner of his mouth slightly. Whether these vampires changed their faith to the Earth Mother Goddess or not, it wouldn't affect their loyalty to the Ancestor. After all, it was the same god.
"I'll be taking the rabbit and leaving now. You know how to summon my messenger anyway, so just contact me when you need to." Reiketon patted Tu Ba Ge on the head by his feet, signaling him to follow.
"Boss, we're leaving so soon? But my Cultivator potion is still a little short of being fully digested!" After walking out of the Earth Church's experimental fields, Tu Ba Ge couldn't hold back his curiosity and asked.
"It's fine. Once the Earth Church promotes the results you've achieved during this time, you should be able to finish digesting the potion." Reiketon explained without paying too much attention to the issue.
Judging from Tu Ba Ge's potion digestion progress, this grafting experiment could indeed digest the potion. Once the Earth Church promoted the results, he should receive some additional feedback, and digesting the remaining potion wouldn't be a problem.
After bringing Tu Ba Ge home, it wasn't long before Usel came to visit, leaving a leather suitcase for Reiketon before hurriedly departing.
"It seems the Earth Church is very busy too!" Reiketon watched Usel's departing figure and remarked.
"Yeah, they need to start promoting the finished products of the experiments, and there are still lots of plants that haven't been experimented on yet!" Tu Ba Ge nodded and said.
"Is the Earth Church going to list every kind of plant and try grafting them in every combination?" Reiketon could only sigh at how having extraordinary abilities let one be so extravagant.
After bringing the leather suitcase Usel had left into his room and opening it, he found neatly arranged inside many relatively rare materials, an Earth Church badge, a glass bottle fashioned in the style of a hanging canteen, and a full jar of nectar.
Among that pile of materials, Reiketon spotted the supplementary potion materials for the Cultivator pathway from Sequence 9 to Sequence 7. These materials were highly suitable whether used as spellcasting materials or for concocting certain potions.
"Looks like I won't need to specially gather a batch of materials before leaving. These materials will last me a long time. The Earth Church is generous!" Reiketon took out the hanging-canteen-style glass bottle and the jar of nectar from the suitcase.
Tu Ba Ge also curiously hopped onto the table and reached out a paw to poke the mystical item the Earth Church had given.
"I can't see anything special about this glass bottle at all!" Tu Ba Ge picked up the mystical item, looked it over, and set it back down.
"It's probably the kind of mystical item that's neither dangerous nor powerful." Reiketon took the glass bottle from Tu Ba Ge's paws.
Holding the mystical item in his hand, Reiketon used divination to learn its specific information.
The "Wondrous Seed Bottle" corresponded to the Harvest Priest of the Cultivator pathway's Sequence 7. It could preserve seeds placed in the glass bottle long-term, and could selectively mutate some of the seeds inside, though the mutation effects were uncertain.
Throwing a mutated seed onto the ground would cause it to grow wildly, piercing through the earth to attack nearby creatures, but without distinguishing friend from foe.
This Sealed Artifact liked nectar. Each time it was used, nectar had to be applied to the mouth of the glass bottle, otherwise it would just be an ordinary glass bottle.
After obtaining the divination results, Reiketon placed this Sealed Artifact back into the suitcase.
"Boss, is this glass bottle powerful?" Tu Ba Ge asked curiously, pressing further.
"It's somewhat useful, but not much. More likely it's meant as the main ingredient for your Sequence 7 potion." Reiketon replied.
