Chapter 87: Departure
"Boss, is this the sea? It's so big! You can't see the end," Tu Ba Ge said, sitting on the carriage, gazing at the blue ocean outside.
Tu Ba Ge wore a top hat and a cape, held a tiny toy wand in his hand, and had a glass bottle hanging from his waist that was wildly disproportionate to his body, looking like a wandering rabbit magician.
"Well, this is Sevia, the largest port city southeast of Fennibote. We'll set sail from here tomorrow," Lei Kedun explained to the curious rabbit looking at the sea.
It had been a little less than half a month since leaving Ma Dan, and Lei Kedun was not hurrying to set out to sea; instead, he wandered like on a long trip to Sevia, preparing to board a ship that would pass Dixi Bay on the way to the Rosted Archipelago.
After freeloading a seal item from Harvest Church, the next day the Knowledge Church also delivered the thing promised by Mr. Huang.
A new identification, a mission order notice, and a seal item 2-031, also called the "Demon Badge", which corresponds to the Abyss Path's Sequence Six demon, is a very powerful seal item, and likewise very dangerous.
The Knowledge Church's mission order was more useful than Lei Kedun had imagined.
Originally Lei Kedun only intended to use it as an excuse to leave Fennibote, but unexpectedly, this mission order easily resolved any possible opposition from his father and mother.
Moreover, he could regularly receive funds from the Knowledge Church for missions, which is why Lei Kedun could leave Ma Dan so quickly.
"Boss, where are we going after we set sail?" Tu Ba Ge withdrew his gaze that had been fixed on the sea.
"First to Dixi Bay, then transfer to the Rosted Archipelago. Of course, if we encounter the target en route, we'll just become pirates on the ship," Lei Kedun said, adjusting the glasses on his nose bridge.
Lei Kedun had no clear goal; he thought that as long as he drifted on the sea, his sage trait would eventually lead him to meet the Star General Gardelia.
After arriving at the port by carriage, Lei Kedun bought a first-class cabin ticket nearby for Tu Ba Ge, and then checked into an inn.
He placed the leather suitcase he was carrying on the inn room's cabinet, poured himself a cup of tea, and walked to the window to stare at the nearby sea.
"Boss, is seawater really salty? If we cook soup with seawater, do we not need to add salt?" Tu Ba Ge hopped onto the window, looking at the sea.
"Tonight I'll take you to the seaside; you can sip some seawater to taste it," Lei Kedun, seeing the rabbit's interest in seawater, couldn't help but make the suggestion.
"Um, boss, what time tonight are we going to the seaside?" Tu Ba Ge asked excitedly.
"Let's go after dinner; you can eat a little less, otherwise you won't be able to drink the seawater later," Lei Kedun patted the rabbit's head and said.
"Alright, boss!" Tu Ba Ge replied excitedly.
Lei Kedun lifted the corner of his mouth, hoping the rabbit would still be this excited after drinking seawater tonight.
"Boss, it's time; you have to smear fresh blood on that badge again," Tu Ba Ge, lying on the window watching the sea, turned and reminded Lei Kedun.
"Alright, I understand," Lei Kedun replied.
He then walked to a nearby round table, took a metal small box from his jacket pocket, which contained a blood-red demon head badge.
Lei Kedun drew his carried dagger, cut a wound on his palm, let blood drip onto the badge, and then smeared the blood evenly.
"What a hassle! Even if this seal item isn't used, it still requires fresh human blood to be applied daily," Lei Kedun sighed.
This badge is the seal item 2-031 that the Knowledge Church provided Lei Kedun, also called the "Demon Badge", which allows use of all demon abilities except demonization and malicious perception.
The downside is it increases the risk of the user losing control and amplifies the user's desires, making them prone to bloodlust and killing urges; regardless of use, fresh human blood must be applied to the badge daily.
However, this seal item is indeed powerful; using it temporarily grants the strength of Sequence Six, and it's the kind that excels in direct combat.
After smearing the blood evenly on the badge, Lei Kedun closed the metal box, then took a small bottle of healing potion from another pocket and applied it to the wound on his palm.
"When will I meet a pirate so I won't have to bleed myself every day?" Lei Kedun sighed.
"Boss, aren't we going to become pirates on a pirate ship?" Tu Ba Ge asked at the right moment.
Lei Kedun silently stared at the rabbit lying on the window and decided to give it a couple more gulps of seawater tonight.
After resting in the inn for a while, the waiter brought dinner, a local specialty that tasted fairly good.
After dinner, Lei Kedun took Tu Ba Ge out, and while it was still daylight, he planned to wander around the nearby port to see if he could spot one or two pirates with bounty.
He didn't know whether it was the pirates' excellent camouflage or Sevia's tight security, but after two rounds around the port, Lei Kedun and Tu Ba Ge saw no bounty-listed pirate.
"Sigh—what a pity, I thought we could make a little profit or find a long-term blood bag for the Demon Badge!" Lei Kedun sighed.
"Let's go to the beach! While the sun hasn't fully set, we might even see the sunset," Lei Kedun turned his head and whispered to Tu Ba Ge perched on his shoulder.
He then turned and walked toward the shoreline, intending to visit the beach while the sun was still up. Before coming to this world, as someone from an inland province, he had rarely had the chance to see the sea.
A middle-aged man in a dark brown coat, obese, with dark brown skin and small eyes, hurried past Lei Kedun.
He walked anxiously, and the hem of his coat brushed Lei Kedun's back of the hand, a chilly, slightly cold sensation.
Lei Kedun frowned slightly, then continued walking on the beach as if nothing happened. The man gave him a very cold, undead-like feeling.
This is the effect after becoming a spirit realm sorcerer, where his spiritual sense is heightened, like the Eye of Secret Gazing; even without actively looking, he passively receives bits of information.
"Corpse Collector Path, low sequence, most likely a corpse collector or grave digger; they've probably been lingering in graveyards lately or dealing with undead," Lei Kedun subconsciously analyzed.
After finishing the analysis, he realized and let out a chuckle.
"No wonder the Keeper of Knowledge is also called a detective; this subconscious habit really is similar to a detective," Lei Kedun felt his understanding of the Keeper of Knowledge deepened.
"Boss, what are you talking about?" Tu Ba Ge, perched on his shoulder, looked at his boss with confusion.
"Nothing. Did you sense any smell from the person who just passed us?" Lei Kedun asked, curious whether the rabbit's intuition had picked up anything.
"Hmm, a bit chilly feeling, but I didn't smell anything," Tu Ba Ge recalled.
"I'm a rabbit, not a dog!" After reacting, they again angrily emphasized the fact that they are a rabbit.
I realize the progress has been dragging a bit; speed it up, get to the plot quickly.
