Chapter 745: Putting On An Act
Lilian’s appearance once again sent shockwaves through the Human World.
“Is that the Demon Emperor?”
“Yes. It’s just like the records describe.”
“The Demon Emperor is finally making a move. I wonder if Godly General Lin can defeat the Demon Emperor.”
“Hard to say. Godly General Lin is strong, but so is the Demon Emperor.”
“Godly General Lin, please stay safe!”
All eyes were fixed on Lin Moyu, every breath held in suspense.
Over the past millennium, the Demon Emperor had rarely intervened. Yet each time she did, she displayed overwhelming power. Even human half-step Transcendent Gods could barely contend with her.
Now that Lin Moyu stood against the Demon Emperor, no one could predict the outcome.
They understood the relationship between Lin Moyu and the Demon Emperor. They knew she would not really try to kill him; Lin Moyu would definitely be safe.
Moreover, the Demon Emperor had already sold out the Abyss for her own interests.
Her appearance now was, in all likelihood, nothing more than an act.
…
Lilian was shrouded entirely in mist, her true form impossible to discern.
The mist churned endlessly, vast and impenetrable, with sinister demonic visages flickering within. This was the image the Demon Emperor always presented to the world.
Even her voice, usually cold and faintly raspy, was part of the illusion. No one had ever seen her real face.
Lin Moyu’s words drew a soft chuckle from her.
“Is it merely a bit of a hassle?”
The voice was completely different from her public persona. Fortunately, Antares’s live broadcast carried no sound; otherwise, the revelation would have shocked everyone.
Lin Moyu knew she hadn’t come to stop him. If she had, she would have acted the moment he entered the Abyss.
“Are you here to put on an act with me?” He asked.
The Demon Emperor smiled, “I know why you’re here. Consider this a gift, a token of my sincerity. As for the act… we must play our parts well.”
Lin Moyu immediately understood, “And while we’re at it, you also want to gauge my true strength?”
The Demon Emperor intentions were never that simple. An act alone wouldn’t justify her involvement.
The fact that she sought cooperation meant she valued his strength and potential. But if he failed to meet her expectations, the cooperation could be abandoned at any time.
Someone like Lilian would never put all her eggs in one basket.
She had known of her predicament for 1,000 years; surely, she had prepared many contingencies. Working with him was likely just one of her more reliable options.
Lilian said, “Even in an act, we should be serious.”
Lin Moyu smiled lightly, “Then as you wish.”
He raised a finger.
Two-star law art: Bone Prison!
Law art: Undead Gaze!
Two law arts—no, three—were unleashed at once.
White bones erupted across the dense mist surrounding Lilian, and sharp Bone Fangs erupted.
At that moment, the mist itself served as her body and armor.
The Bone Fangs glowing white pierced into the mist, only to vanish without a trace.
Against her, such an attack was still insufficient.
The sky dimmed, then turned silver-white. As if a vast curtain had been drawn aside, the Undead Eye opened and fixed its gaze upon Lilian.
A faint cry of pain echoed. She was clearly affected.
Even Antares felt something when subjected to the Undead Gaze. As a half-step Transcendent, Lilian might not be wounded, but pain was inevitable.
Lilian was deeply shaken. If Lin Moyu could already inflict pain on her, what would happen once he reached her level? Could he kill her instantly?
The threat was undeniable, a danger that pierced straight to the soul.
If Lin Moyu truly reached her level, she might become completely powerless in front of him.
The realization left her conflicted. His strength validated her judgment, yet it also filled her with unease.
If he turned on her when their cooperation ended, she might have no way to resist.
In a single instant, countless thoughts crossed her mind, only for her to reach a simple conclusion: she had no choice. Even now, there was nothing she could do to stop him.
Antares stood behind Lin Moyu, making it effectively impossible to kill him. This alone had been reason enough to ally with him from the beginning.
The moment passed.
Lilian cast aside hesitation. The arrow had already been loosed; there was no turning back.
In the next instant, she struck back.
A colossal hand burst from the mist, surging toward Lin Moyu with an aura of destruction.
The law of destruction.
Lilian’s domain was the law of destruction, one of the strongest second tier laws, far surpassing the Dragon Emperor’s law of stone.
This was proof of Lilian’s extraordinary talent. With such talent and intellect, how could she ever accept being nothing more than a pawn, especially one that could lose her life at any moment?
Lin Moyu could understand her well.
With a slight beat of his Deathwings, he vanished, evading the Demon Emperor’s attack.
The colossal hand slammed into the ground. The ground roared as it collapsed; nearby hills were erased in an instant. Under the law of destruction, not a single blade of grass survived.
Lin Moyu reappeared 1,000 meters away. The undead army emerged, the Bone Dragons roaring, the Headless Knights charging.
Thrones of bones materialized in the sky, and two Skeletal Kings rose to their feet.
The battle had begun.
Mist churned as Lilian unleashed relentless attacks, destroying swathes of the undead army.
Lin Moyu kept casting two-star law arts. Though Bone Prison could not harm Lilian, it slowed her movements.
Once again, he activated Undead Gaze, drawing a faint groan from her lips.
The pain was real. The battle was real.
Yet neither fought at full strength.
What seemed like a fierce clash was anything but. Lin Moyu constantly shifted to evade her attacks; Lilian did the same. The battlefield expanded with every exchange.
Then, a large city came into view.
The city belonged to the Succubus Queen.
Its barriers had been activated, and it teemed with Demons.
In that instant, Lin Moyu understood. This was the gift Lilian had prepared for him.
A city full of Demons.
As they maneuvered, the Demon Emperor had deliberately guided the battle here. To any observer, it would seem incidental. Her performance was flawless.
Unlike the previous offering of the Demon Worship Society—mere human traitors—these were true Demons.
This was Lilian’s declaration of her determination to cooperate with him. She truly intended to sacrifice the Abyss Demons entirely.
“How decisive.” Lin Moyu thought.
Since that was the case, he naturally would play along.
Within the Succubus Queen’s city, the Demons saw the Demon Emperor locked in battle with Lin Moyu.
Their blood boiled as they shouted for his death, unaware they had already been sold out.
“Please.” Lilian’s voice sounded in Lin Moyu’s ears.
Lin Moyu didn’t hesitate. He raised a finger toward the sky.
The Undead Eye manifested above the city.
The Demons knew its terror well. The moment it appeared, countless fled in panic, only to discover their Teleportation Stones were useless.
Teleportation was sealed. Communication was cut off.
The entire city had become a cage.
