Chapter 4: Volume 1, Chapter 4: The Dangerous Professor Leaves Me Dazed (4)
Jiang Zhi grabbed a tissue, wiped her face hastily, then asked him, "All good?"
She wiped five or six times, but still missed the spot.
Huo Yin's brow twitched, his midnight-like pupils flashing a frosty aura.
He suspected she was doing it on purpose.
Huo Yin pulled out another tissue, leaned close to her cheek, and gently wiped it.
The back of his hand brushed her silk-smooth cheek, paused briefly, then he pulled his fingers back.
Jiang Zhi smiled and said, "Thank you, Teacher Huo."
Huo Yin's fingers clenched unnaturally, his fingertips still tingling from the touch.
He seldom touches others.
The sensation didn't repel him.
He suppressed the emotion in his eyes and lowered his head to eat.
After finishing the meal, she stepped out of the cafeteria; a few snowflakes drifted down, and Jiang Zhi reached out to catch one. The snowflake melted into water before her eyes, carrying a hint of chill.
"It's snowing!" she exclaimed happily.
Upon seeing the snowflakes, Huo Yin's expression turned grim and cold; he stepped back to avoid the snowflakes drifting onto him.
"You go ahead, I still have some matters to attend to."
Jiang Zhi sensed his oddness, answered, and walked into the falling snow, her steps light and her smile radiant.
Unlike her, Huo Yin furrowed his brows, watched her receding figure vanish, then turned and headed to the convenience store, where he bought an umbrella.
In the open campus, he gripped the umbrella handle as fine snow with a faint sheen fell onto the wide umbrella.
Huo Yin's face looked awful; he hurried his steps, unwilling to linger.
As a fine snowflake settled on his black lashes, a dark memory flashed before his eyes.
"You illegitimate wretch, you should just die."
"A Yin, Mom can't endure anymore; remember, I'm dying because of you."
In the depths of a winter night.
Goose-feather snow swirled; everything felt especially desolate and cold, with not a single car on the road.
He lay in the freezing, bone-chilling snow, his body severely hypothermic, his empty, dead-black eyes fixed on the pitch-black night sky as snowflakes pelted his face.
That cold, Huo Yin still remembers it now, as if etched into his marrow, impossible to forget.
"Ding."
The phone message alert broke his reverie.
Huo Yin entered the office, stowed his umbrella, then picked up his phone and unlocked the screen.
【Zhizhi: I'm home, Teacher Huo—today eating with you was so fun ovo】
Huo Yin stared at the message for a long time, then tapped a reply.
Jiang Zhi, curled up on the sofa watching a variety show, received the reply.
【Yeah, same here.】
Jiang Zhi bit into an apple, freed her hand to type.
【Zhizhi: Want to eat together again tomorrow?】
【Huo: I can't tomorrow, I have something.】
【Zhizhi: Aw QAQ, then next time.】
【Huo: Mm.】
Jiang Zhi locked her phone, chewing the fruit in her mouth, and said to the system: "Today Teacher Huo wiped my face; Seven Brother, quickly tell me, what's his favorability now?"
"5?" Jiang Zhi burst into tears, "Wuwuwu, you damned Huo Yin, how cruel you are."
777: Done, the host is acting up again.
The snow stopped Huo Yin from acting, temporarily saving Jiang Zhi's life.
Flaunting her wealth, she shopped and ate to her heart's content for days, until she finally ate herself sick.
Upon waking, her toothache was so severe she couldn't open her mouth; half her lower jaw had swollen into a lump.
Her younger brother Jiang Jiang video-chatted with her; seeing her condition, he laughed so hard he couldn't straighten up.
"Dear sister, my dear sister, have you been possessed by a starving ghost? My meal card has several thousand yuan, and you're about to drain it; these days I see your Moments posts—you've eaten so much, how can you eat so much?"
Jiang Zhi gave him a "cut the crap, hurry up" look; she could barely open her mouth to retort, her toothache so bad she wanted to smash her teeth.
Jiang Jiang said: "I'm off on winter break next week, going out with friends; you, don't pine for me alone."
Jiang Zhi strained her lips and spat out three words.
"Hurry, quick, scram!"
After saying that, she ended the video call.
When the original protagonist's brother went out for winter break, the original protagonist, left alone at home, died silently.
By the time the body was found, it had been several days; a neighbor next door smelled the stench and alerted the police.
Jiang Zhi bundled up in thick clothes, ready to head out.
Her phone pinged with a message.
【Huo: I'm at school today; want to eat together?】
He hadn't contacted her in days; fortunately, the snow had stopped today, so he got in touch.
Jiang Zhi tapped the input field.
[Zhizhi: Sorry QxQ, my tooth is swollen, I have to go to the hospital, next time~]
Soon, a reply came back.
[I have no class this afternoon, I can take you there. ]
Jiang Zhi's lips twitched, and she agreed.
After waiting a moment at the residential gate, a jet-black Maybach stopped before her.
The car window rolled down, revealing the man's extremely handsome face, neat short hair brushed across his forehead, a pair of narrow, slanted eyes exuding an ultimate mature charm.
Upon seeing her face, Huo Yin's eyes flickered with a smile.
The beautiful girl's egg-shaped cheek swelled with a lump; her snow-white cheek flushed with red, the area under her eyes tinged bluish, as if tormented by a toothache.
That smile happened to be seen by Jiang Zhi, and she couldn't help feeling a bit annoyed.
"I, I, also, don't, want, this!" Because she couldn't open her mouth, her speech was halting and unclear.
Being teased by her younger brother was bad enough, but now the man also made fun of her!
Listening to her pitiful words, Huo Yin gave a soft "hmm," got out of the car, and, with gentlemanly poise, opened the passenger door for her, then said, "I'll take you to the hospital."
Jiang Zhi obediently sat in the passenger seat, her fingers intermittently pressing her chin as she watched the scenery flash by outside the window.
It was still the first time the girl had been with him without speaking, an unusual silence.
All of this was thanks to the toothache.
Huo Yin used to like quiet, but now he suddenly felt unaccustomed to it.
He wanted to hear something, like the girl's voice.
He slightly raised his brow, breaking the silent atmosphere, "How did this happen?"
Jiang Zhi's cheeks flushed red; she was too embarrassed to say the reason, after all, she still cared about her pride.
Seeing her hesitate to speak, Huo Yin guessed, "Did you eat a lot?"
Jiang Zhi buried her head against her chest, and after a moment she nodded slightly, letting out a soft "hng."
Huo Yin is a medical professor, so he naturally knows dentistry; he glanced at her head out of the corner of his eye, paused a moment, and said, "Eat less spicy food."
The man said a lot, but Jiang Zhi heard it in one ear and out the other, nodding absentmindedly.
It's impossible to get her to stop eating.
With less than a month left, she might die soon, so she needs to eat as much as possible.
Upon seeing the hospital gates, Jiang Zhi quietly let out a sigh of relief.
Finally, she no longer had to listen to Teacher Huo's nagging.
Huo Yin didn't miss her relaxation, and involuntarily raised his fingers to pinch the corners of his eyes, smiling helplessly.
The students all wanted to attend his lectures, but she was different—she didn't want to listen at all.
