Chapter 408: Volume 1 Chapter 408: Sinful Island (4)
Jiang Zhi took off her clothes while apologizing, then put on the nurse's uniform and lifted the nurse onto the hospital bed.
After doing that, Jiang Zhi put on a mask and left the ward.
This time she learned her lesson and went to the dedicated medical staff elevator.
The elevator descended floor by floor, and as it passed the sixth floor, her heart tightened involuntarily.
The elevator didn't stop until it reached the first floor.
Jiang Zhi walked out of the hospital doors, gasping heavily, and steadied her violently pounding heart.
She exchanged her watch points for a hundred dollars, hailed a taxi, and headed to the downtown shopping mall.
Sitting in the car, Jiang Zhi leaned back against the seat, about to close her eyes for a rest, when the pocket of her nurse's uniform vibrated.
She pulled out a phone from the pocket; the screen showed an unfamiliar number.
Jiang Zhi paused for a few seconds, then pressed to answer.
The line on the other end remained silent for a long time.
Just as she was about to hang up, a low, alluring voice came from the receiver.
"Where are you going?"
As she had expected, Xu Hang would not let her go.
The reason Jiang Zhi answered his call was to avoid a falling-out with him; she might need to return to the hospital later, and staying by Xu Hang's side would be safer than being alone.
"I'm buying some things." She immediately added, "Doctor Xu, thank you for saving me last night."
Xu Hang's tone was calm, unhurried as he replied, "Alright, I'll come pick you up."
The call ended.
Jiang Zhi glanced at the time; it was still early.
After resting a while in the taxi, she arrived at her destination.
She entered the bustling street market, where the crowds coming and going looked like ordinary people, with no outward sign of being vampires.
Jiang Zhi's nurse uniform stood out in the crowd, so she went into a clothing store, bought a plain T-shirt and jeans, then followed the address shown on her watch to the front of the mall.
At the entrance stood several people with pale, tense faces; Jiang Zhi could tell at a glance they were humans like herself.
She withdrew her gaze and walked into the pharmacy ahead.
Inside, it was dark and chilly, the air thick with a medicinal smell stronger than the hospital's, bitter and unpleasant.
Fifty points could be exchanged for a body‑strengthening medicine, but it only improved things a tiny bit, almost negligible.
To fully improve her physique, she would need more points.
She took a pill that was completely black, didn't think twice, and swallowed it whole.
It tasted intensely bitter, so bitter she clutched her stomach and vomited up bile.
She had never tasted such a bitter medicine in her life.
She left the pharmacy and went to a secluded, empty park, where she sat on a bench to rest.
Sleepiness came over her for no reason, and she closed her eyes and fell asleep.
When she woke again, everything was pitch black; the vast park was silent and still, a cold night wind blowing against the skin of her arms.
Jiang Zhi's first move was to check her watch.
It was nine o'clock at night.
"I slept for over ten hours in one go??"
777 was very anxious: "Yes, host, I've been calling you, but you won't wake up."
Jiang Zhi's expression darkened.
It was the medicine's fault.
This isn't a body‑strengthening medicine at all—it's clearly a sleeping pill!
Jiang Zhi didn't have time to think further; she hurriedly got up, and out of the corner of her eye caught a silhouette on the nearby bench.
Her scalp tingled as she was about to slip away quietly.
A laugh came from behind her, accompanied by the harsh screech of metal scraping the ground.
"We ran into prey as soon as we went out; we brothers are really lucky."
"Brother, let me bite first—I haven't tasted the blood of a young girl yet."
"Fine, fine, fine, brother promises you."
Their conversation was chilling.
Jiang Zhi turned at her fastest speed, dodging the incoming cleaver, stepped back two paces, and barely made out the brothers' appearance under the light.
The two blood hunters were twins, with identical faces, and the malice showing on their faces was similarly alike.
The brother wielding the cleaver said disappointedly, "How did you dodge? My strike was clearly fast."
Jiang Zhi was astonished to discover her body had noticeably changed—at least she was no longer as fragile as before.
Before buying the medicine, she had also purchased a Tang sword, sharp and sturdy; she gripped it with both hands and fixed her gaze on the vampire brother in front of her.
The brother had both feet on the bench's railing, crouched, and when his eyes met hers he laughed excitedly: "I really like your expression."
As soon as he finished speaking, he vanished instantly.
Jiang Zhi had been prepared; she raised her Tang sword to block his attack.
The brother completely disregarded her, continuously slashing his two cleavers against her sword blade, his laughter grating.
Jiang Zhi narrowed her eyes, and when he let his guard down, she drew a fruit knife from her waist and stabbed it hard into his chest.
The vampire brother's eyes widened; he clearly hadn't expected her to wound him.
As Jiang Zhi was about to deliver a follow‑up strike, the vampire brother suddenly appeared, yanked his sibling away, and kicked her aside with a lifted foot.
The force was heavy; although Jiang Zhi avoided the vital points, she still injured her internal organs, fell to the ground and spat out a mouthful of blood, her face as pale as paper, seeming as if she could die at any moment.
She cannot die here.
Jiang Zhi endured the pain, rose from the ground, and, while the older brother fretted over the younger brother's injury, she trudged forward with heavy steps.
The intense abdominal pain left her almost unable to breathe, the Tang sword she gripped tightly trembled on the verge of falling; just as she was about to collapse, a figure stepped before her and promptly supported her arm.
Jiang Zhi lifted her gaze and saw a pair of sinister and wicked phoenix eyes.
The youth appeared very young, his features still childish, his eyebrows and eyes clear and handsome, exquisitely beautiful, looking like a delicate wooden doll placed in a glass case.
"May I taste your blood?"
His words were a question seeking her consent, but the hand gripping the back of her head and the lips covering hers were full of aggression that allowed no refusal.
His kiss was not a kiss; it was more like a beast's savage bite.
Jiang Zhi frowned, struggling to push him away, but the youth kissed her deeply, ignoring her struggle, he wrapped his arms around her waist, his breath hot and scorching.
The twins reacted; the younger brother was filled with uncontrollable rage, his face murderous, wanting to torture the girl to death, but in an instant, seeing the two entwined, his expression froze.
The younger brother gripped the kitchen knife and strode forward; the older brother came to block him, saying, "That Vampire is strong!"
The younger brother smirked sinisterly: "Older brother, can the two of us still not defeat him? Now is the perfect moment for a sneak attack!"
Having said that, he shook off the older brother's hand and the younger brother rushed forward.
Seeing the approaching Vampire, Jiang Zhi's misty dark eyes flickered with anxiety; she strained to push the youth away, and a choked sound escaped her lips.
Just as the younger brother's knife was about to strike the youth, the youth finally released the person in his arms, turned, and with one hand seized the Vampire younger brother's neck—'crack'—the bone broke.
The Vampire died with eyes unclosed, and the youth casually tossed him onto the ground.
He narrowed his eyes, his smile harmless as could be.
"I helped you; what reward do you have for me~?"
