Chapter 16: Heat Period
Heat Period
The humpback whale and bowhead whale were quickly devoured by the Killer Whale Orcs; Chaosheng had a small appetite and did not like eating raw food, so she gave all the meat she was allotted to Baini and Yinxu.
The sun in the Polar Sea also seemed to have been weakened; even the brightest sunlight could not make one feel a warm temperature, just like her own body temperature—lukewarm and cool.
After Baini had a quarrel with Baiqi, his mood was very low, and no matter how Chaosheng coaxed him, it was of no use.
After coaxing him several times, Baini said to Chaosheng in a hoarse voice, "Sheng, I want to be alone for a while."
In the past, he and his sister had a very good relationship; she was two years older than him, and because they had the same father, Baiqi had always taken extreme care of him.
Later, their father passed away unexpectedly; although their mother loved them, she was a Leader and was tied up with many affairs, so he and his sister could be said to have grown up relying on each other.
But ever since his sister married that Krill Orc, there had been constant conflict between them.
Now, he and his sister could be considered to have broken ties.
Baini swam gloomily to a remote sea area, saw krill floating in the water, and after swallowing a large wave of them fiercely, he kept playing with them to vent his anger.
On the water's surface, Chaosheng sat on a large piece of ice and sighed gloomily.
The small fish in the water slowly gathered toward her, circling her tail as if they had never seen such a large and beautiful fish tail before.
Chaosheng became a little interested, and thinking of the ability she had just obtained, she moved her mind.
A gust of light blue wind blew the top layer of seawater, and the seawater, carrying the small fish along with the force of the wind, flowed from top to bottom like a curtain.
It was just like the ornamental fish tanks she had seen in rich people's homes in her past life.
Chaosheng's eyes flickered slightly, as if she had thought of something else; a pale green vine climbed up along the edge of the water curtain, as if it were creating a frame for the water curtain.
The fish danced in the air, weaving through the grass vines, dreamy and agile.
Chaosheng was immersed in the appreciation, a faint smile curling at her lips, her mood unprecedentedly calm.
Suddenly, a tall and handsome figure sat down next to her; a conspicuous white color was reflected in the water, which was the fur on Yinxu's beast-skin garment.
"What are you playing with?"
Yinxu sat down beside her, his gentle and tingling voice sounding as if he were kissing her ear.
Chaosheng dodged uncomfortably a couple of times, her eyes staring straight at the water curtain in front of her, "It's too boring, so I'm just playing around."
"Mm." Yinxu nodded slightly, his gaze looking at her softly, "It is indeed beautiful."
It was unknown whether he was talking about the water curtain or her.
She did not know why, but whenever she was alone with Yinxu, her heartbeat would always accelerate.
Through the water curtain, her gaze fell on the pod of orcas playing in the distance; she even recognized a few of them, as they were Baini's brothers.
A trace of faint curiosity rose in the depths of Chaosheng's eyes, and she chatted as if casually, "Besides you, are there only Sea Beastmen here?"
"Are there no other Beastmen?"
The boundless blue was calm yet dangerous, and the space connecting with it was empty and boundless.
The world was boundless; if there were only marine life, how monotonous it would be!
Yinxu was silent for a moment, his dark brown eyes looking toward the sky, "When I was young, I heard my mother and father talk about it; there used to be Sky Orcs, who had wings and lived in the sky."
Her amethyst-like eyes flickered, and Chaosheng looked faintly at the boundless sky, murmuring, "Sky Orcs?"
"Perhaps it is just a legend." Yinxu thought of his parents who had passed away early, his eyes dimming, "I have never seen a Sky Orc; my mother and father told me about it in great detail at the time."
"It's a pity that I have already forgotten most of it."
"Sorry."
The figures of his parents had already blurred in his memory along with this legend.
Sensing the low mood of the person beside her, Chaosheng moved silently toward him, and only after the two were close enough to be touching did she say softly, "Yinxu, all legends are not without basis; perhaps there really are Sky Orcs, who knows."
"Perhaps."
Yinxu pursed his lips slightly, the sea breeze blowing the fluff on his beast-skin garment, his dark brown eyes rippling with a melancholy like the ocean, "Sheng, if only I also had a Tribe."
He always had a feeling that Chaosheng was very lonely, more detached from this world than he was.
"If I had a Tribe, then with two Tribes backing you up, no Beastman would dare to bully you."
Why did he suddenly say this?
"..." A trace of confusion appeared in Chaosheng's slightly round eyes; who was bullying her?
"No, no need."
"I actually... don't like Tribes that much."
After saying this, fearing that Yinxu would not believe her, she nodded vigorously, "I'm telling the truth."
"I just don't like living with so many Beastmen."
Yinxu did not speak, his eyes quietly watching her, wanting to catch a trace of reluctance on her face.
How could anyone not yearn for communal living? He remembered that Mermaids also lived with their clans.
Aside from Lianxun, he actually liked the Jingju Tribe very much—a group of energetic, vibrant Beastmen who would sincerely offer their blessings to Baini.
When he went hunting with the Beastmen of the Jingju Tribe, he could always hear them boasting about Baini's brave deeds.
He envied Baini; he had known Sheng earlier, was more favored by Sheng, and had such a good Tribe.
Even though he himself had powerful abilities, he had no clan, and in the vast ocean, he was weak and alone.
If he had a powerful clan, he would not have to be so wary of Lianxun and Baiqi today; even if he angered Baiqi or even the Jingju Tribe, he would have his own Tribe to back them up.
The waves gently lapped against his ears, and a long-hidden inferiority welled up in his heart; he could not give Sheng such a generous dowry, nor did he have a clan to serve as Sheng's reliance.
Yinxu lowered his eyes despondently, his head dizzy, his heart filled with dark emotions, breeding many distracting thoughts; his pure Mental Sea seemed to be drifting with a trace of black filth again.
Inadvertently, at his heart, a trace of purple Witch Power silently wandered into his Mental Sea, instantly devouring that trace of black filth.
The Witch Power rubbed against the Mental Sea ingratiatingly; such a trace of filth seemed completely unable to satisfy it, and it began to wander greedily everywhere, heading toward an unspeakable direction.
Yinxu's heart suddenly calmed down, and immediately after, another feeling surged through his body; he widened his eyes in disbelief, and he bit his teeth together in embarrassment.
It seemed his Heat Period had arrived...
Yinxu looked at Chaosheng with reddened eyes, voice shattering, "Sheng..."
Noticing Yinxu's abnormality, Chaosheng asked nervously, "What is wrong with you?"
"Where do you feel uncomfortable?"
"Do you want..." I should just use Witch Power to check him, Chaosheng thought, the worry in her eyes intense.
She remembered that in this world, Beastmen with special abilities rarely felt physically unwell, aside from being troubled by filth.
"I'm... I'm fine." Yinxu leaned his head on Chaosheng's shoulder, greedily drinking in the fragrance from the crook of her neck.
"Let me hold you."
"Just for a while."
The tide of physical desire surged, tears seeping from the corners of his eyes; Yinxu gritted his teeth, no, not yet, not now...
