Chapter 25: Shelan Grass

~7 min read 1,290 words

Shelan Grass

"What!" Chaosheng's beautiful eyes widened, her small face full of shock, "Baini is injured?"

"How could he be injured?"

Baian anxiously flicked his tail fin, his voice hurried, "We can talk about that later!"

"Go and take a look at him first!"

Although Baian did not understand why his mother insisted on having him find Chaosheng to see Baini—the Tribe's physicians could not heal the wounds on Baini's body, so could this female really heal him?

?!

Could it be that Baini was already... already dying, which was why he had his Mate come to see him for the last time?

Thinking of this, a trace of sorrow flashed through Baian's eyes; his poor brother.

"Alright." Chaosheng also knew that there was no time to delay, and spoke decisively.

"I will go with you." Yinxu followed closely and said.

"Mm." Chaosheng gave a deep look, her face full of anxiety.

Forest-green seaweed drifted, light and shadow diluted, permeating with a blue-green glow.

From time to time, one could see several Orcas swimming back and forth, tracing graceful arcs.

A group of Orcas surrounded a reef, several black tail fins anxiously whipping up waves of water.

"Baini!"

Chaosheng passed through the giant Orcas, shock and sorrow intertwined in her eyes; lying on the reef was none other than Baini!

Baipei stood guard by Baini's side; seeing Chaosheng, her eyes brimmed with imperceptible exhaustion, but her voice was still full of agitation, "You've come!"

"Quick, take a look at him!"

Baipei raised her hand to wave away the watching Orcas, leaving a path for Chaosheng.

"He was injured by Shelan Grass; see if you have any way to save him!"

Baipei's eye rims were slightly red, her voice trembling with urgency, yet she still maintained basic composure.

Shelan Grass?

Chaosheng had never heard of any Shelan Grass; a deeper worry flashed in her eyes. She slowly swam to Baini's side. Baini's neck had a long, deep gash; the wound was thin, long, and blackened, still oozing black-red blood.

Poisoned?

Chaosheng's heart skipped a beat. The toxins of these sea creatures were not light; if one were not careful, a person could be gone in a few moments.

She gently pressed against his wrist, probing with a sliver of Witch Power to check. His heart was beating at an unusual speed, and the toxin was flowing bit by bit along his blood toward his internal organs.

Chaosheng tightly furrowed her brows, a drop of cold sweat sliding down her fair face as she accelerated the speed of her Witch Power transmission.

The purple Witch Power tried to envelop the toxin, but the toxin relied on the flowing blood and could always shake off the entanglement of the Witch Power.

Chaosheng bit her already pale lips, trying her best to use her Witch Power to clear it, but this poison was not ordinary toxin; how could it be so easy to deal with?

After a long while, Chaosheng was exhausted and covered in sweat, only then having barely eliminated most of the toxin, preserving Baini's life.

She attempted to use her Witch Power to eliminate the remaining toxin as well, when suddenly, all the toxin broke free from the restraints of the Witch Power and rushed toward one direction.

That is... the heart!

Chaosheng's heart jolted. She used her Witch Power to chase after the toxin with all her might, but when she reached the heart, she suddenly discovered the toxin had disappeared?!

Strange, there is no abnormality in the heart.

Where did that toxin go?

Chaosheng knitted her brows, panicked and anxious as she carefully used her Witch Power to inspect, fearing that one slip would mean Baini would be gone.

"Cough, cough!"

A light cough startled Chaosheng, who was immersed in her own thoughts. She looked at Baini nervously, "Baini, are you awake?"

"Is there anywhere you feel uncomfortable right now?"

Baini opened his eyes groggily, his round black eyes having lost their usual spirit. Only until he confirmed it was the little Mermaid's voice did a faint light emerge in his eyes.

His pale, bloodless lips moved, seemingly wanting to speak, but his throat was dry and painful as if cut by a knife, unable to utter a complete syllable.

Baini struggled to lift his eyelids, wanting to look at the little Mermaid.

Seeing Baini not speaking, Chaosheng was so anxious she bit her lip, "Baini, how do you feel now?"

"Speak!"

Baini kept his eyes open, watching her without blinking, a trace of imperceptible grievance rippling in his eyes.

A flash of realization crossed Chaosheng's eyes, and she tentatively guessed, "You can't speak?"

Only then did Baini blink his eyes, seemingly agreeing with her words.

"Is this the same reaction for other Beastmen who have been poisoned by this before?" Chaosheng looked up at Baipei and asked urgently, "Do they have any aftereffects?"

Baipei only looked at her deeply, shook her head, sighed slightly, and said, "No."

"No Beastman has ever survived after being poisoned by this."

"?" What? Chaosheng was so shocked she was completely stunned. This poison is that powerful?

Her heart skipped a beat in panic.

"Yes." Baipei nodded in response, her emotions low, "Shelan Grass is only found in Lanhaigou."

"Ever since the toxicity of Shelan Grass became known, no Beastman has gone there again."

While they were talking, Baini's heart rotated with a faint purple light. After the imperceptible purple light rotated a few times, it suddenly returned to calm. Baini suddenly coughed violently, "Cough!"

A large pool of toxic blood flowed down from the corner of his mouth.

Chaosheng was startled, her lips slightly parted, her pupils constricted, "Baini, what's wrong with you?"

"I am not... cough, cough, I am fine," Baini said weakly after coughing up another wisp of black-red blood.

The face that was already coldly pale was now as white as a sheet of paper, devoid of any color.

The untamed look between his brows was gone, and his black eyes were dim and lusterless, as if coated in a layer of frost.

He sat quietly for a long time before finally recovering, and after regaining a bit of strength, he looked at Chaosheng with eyes full of grievance, "Sheng, I... I thought I wouldn't be able to see you again."

"Me too." Chaosheng was moved as she stepped forward to embrace him, tears shimmering in her eyes.

After a long while, once Chaosheng had comforted Baini, she used her Witch Power to examine Baini's body; it was strange, that toxin had vanished without a trace.

To be certain, she examined him back and forth, meticulously, for several rounds, and only after confirming there were no errors did she withdraw her Witch Power.

"The toxins in Baini's body have been completely cleared."

"As long as he recuperates well afterward, there won't be any problems."

Although the toxins were gone, the areas that had been corroded by them remained, and they could only wait for them to heal slowly.

Only then did Baipei set her heart at ease, letting out a deep breath, a trace of relief flashing through her eyes.

Immediately, her gaze turned cold and sharp in the blink of an eye, and she swept an unhappy glance at the outer Orca pod, "Bailang, Baiyu."

"Have those two Beastmen been caught?"

An Orca about eight meters long trembled and shivered, "Mother, they... they have been caught."

"Hah!" Baipei sneered, "Drive them back."

"Yes, yes." Baiyu's voice was timid, not daring to say more, and he pulled Bailang along as they swam outward together.

Soon, the two Orcas drove the two Beastmen back.

Chaosheng fixed her eyes on them, her pupils shrinking in surprise.

How could it be her?
