Chapter 27: Lianxun Leaves

~7 min read 1,251 words

Lianxun leaves.

Xizhi?

It's her again?

Chaosheng lowered her eyes, unconsciously touching the pearl necklace at her throat, dark undercurrents surging in the depths of her gaze.

She patted Baini's arm, then slowly stood up, her eyes piercing like sharp ice as she stabbed them fiercely at Lianxun, "You say Xizhi instigated you to do this?"

"She gave you the Snake Orchid Grass as well?"

"Why did she give you this?"

Chaosheng leaned down and lowered her eyes, coldly staring at Lianxun, not letting a single expression on his face escape her.

Lianxun sniffled, a flash of panic crossing his unfocused eyes, and he stammered, "I... anyway, she just gave me this thing."

"She told me..."

"Whoever dares to bully me, I should use the sharp tip of this grass to scratch them."

"Is that so?" Chaosheng said airily, then suddenly shot a sharp look at him, "Tell the truth."

Lianxun shivered at Chaosheng's terrifying gaze, huddled in fear into Baiqi's embrace as if wanting to entrust his entire weight to her, his arms gripping Baiqi tightly, his nails nearly embedding into her skin, and he buried his head to cry, "Mate, I really don't know."

"It was Xizhi who gave it to me; she said it was just ordinary seaweed."

"She said it could only make a Beastman temporarily weak... I really didn't know it was poisonous!"

Baipei sneered, "A joke, ordinary seaweed?"

"She said it and you believed her?"

"Which Beastman in the entire Polar Sea doesn't know that the toxicity of Snake Orchid Grass is intense and incurable, and can easily poison a Beastman to death?"

"You actually dare tell me you didn't know!"

"I..." Lianxun's face was mournful, his eyes filled with conflict and grievance; he truly did not know.

"I really don't know, I had only heard the name of Snake Orchid Grass."

"But I didn't recognize what Snake Orchid Grass looked like at all!"

If he had known this was Snake Orchid Grass that could easily poison a Beastman to death, he would never have used it on Baini, no matter what.

He still wanted to remain in the Jingju Tribe; how could he possibly go and kill Baini in broad daylight?!

Besides, Baini dying wouldn't benefit him anyway; if he were alive, he could at least provide some help to Baiqi.

He was just dissatisfied with Baini's look of looking down on him and intended to let him taste the feeling of having no ability; he... he never intended to kill him.

Baiqi pushed Lianxun away with a deathly pale face and said timidly, "Lianxun, you go."

Her voice trembled, yet it was unusually firm, "From now on, you are no longer my Beast Husband."

"Mate!" Lianxun stared at her blankly, seemingly unable to believe such heartless words were coming from the mouth of the Mate he loved most.

Baiqi turned her head away, refusing to look at Lianxun's desperate eyes.

Lianxun retreated a few steps in disbelief, bumping into the reef behind him; a sharp pain shot through his lower back, and the despair in his eyes turned into the venom of resentment, "You will regret this!"

Afterward, like a startled fish, he swam rapidly into the distance and disappeared into the reefs.

Baiqi watched his back sorrowfully, almost wanting to chase after him, but her remaining rationality forcibly stopped her footsteps, and she stood there, lost and dejected.

Baipei looked at her state, a flash of complex emotion crossing her eyes, and finally sighed deeply, "Baiqi, you must look after yourself."

"From now on, you are no longer my successor."

"Go and compete for this position with Bairong and Baizhuo."

Baiqi stood woodenly in the distance, her eyes unfocused, seemingly not having heard a word Baipei said.

Baipei looked away in disappointment, her gaze falling on Chaosheng and Baini, her expression softening, "Thanks to you today, Baini was able to save his life."

"Take Baini back to recuperate."

She was truly afraid that if Baini stayed in the Tribe, another accident would occur.

Chaosheng nodded, wanting to help Baini up to leave.

A Beastman moved silently to her side, Yinxu looking at her with gentle eyes, "Let me."

Then he hoisted Baini up with a backhand motion; the force was a bit heavy, and Baini's face, which had regained a little color, turned pale again, his throat itching as he coughed, "Cough, cough!"

Chaosheng looked on nervously and instructed, "Be careful."

"Okay." Yinxu smiled sheepishly, his gaze toward Baini mixed with apology and a hint of malice, "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

Baini was now so weak he couldn't even speak, and could only roll his eyes powerlessly.

In order to take good care of Baini, Chaosheng even wanted to give her own Shell Bed to Baini.

Baini looked at the pearls and gems on Chaosheng's bed, which were so bright they blinded him, and mustered his strength to say, "No need, Sheng."

"I'm not that delicate; sleeping in my previous spot is fine."

"But..." Chaosheng looked at the spot covered with a little seaweed, her eyes hesitant, "Will you be okay sleeping there?"

"Why wouldn't I be?" Baini looked puzzled, "I've always slept like this."

That was true, Chaosheng nodded slightly, remembering that this was the ocean world, and sea beasts didn't need beds to sleep.

"Alright then." Chaosheng agreed reluctantly, "It's fine for you to sleep there; if you feel any discomfort, you must find me immediately."

"Okay." Baini wanted to return to his own place to lie down, but saw a fellow in front of his nest; he pointed at the pink coral and asked, "Sheng, why did you put the coral here?"

After being reminded, Chaosheng remembered her treasure; she hurriedly swam over, moved the coral to another spot, and then carefully held the Puti Grass out to Baini, "Look!"

Baini: "?"

Baini looked puzzled, so Chaosheng had to explain slowly, "This is Puti Grass."

"It can increase your ability."

"Increase ability?" Baini's eyes were blank and carried a hint of doubt, "Does such a thing really exist?"

Was it really that easy to get?

When Sheng told him about it last time, he thought she was just joking, or that this thing was something he would likely never encounter in his entire life.

He did not expect it to appear so soon.

"Mm." Chaosheng nodded vigorously and pulled Baini down to sit, "Come, try it quickly."

"Oh." Baini was pulled to a seat by Chaosheng in a daze, looking at this glowing grass, a trace of curiosity flashing across his face.

He had never seen such bright grass before; compared to gems and pearls, it was not inferior at all.

And strangely, the moment he saw this plant, joy arose in his heart, and he felt it was very intimate.

Chaosheng gently held the Universal Grass up in front of Baini, her tone serious, "Close your eyes now and carefully sense it."

Baini obediently closed his eyes, and the world instantly turned dark; having lost his vision, his other senses became sharper, and he could vaguely hear the sound of flowing water.

"Sense him carefully and try to find his location."

"He is right there in your world."

"As long as you want to communicate with him, he will appear in your world."

In the dark, silent world, a vast expanse of black, nothing could be seen, and there was nothing there, until suddenly, in the distance of that world, a glimmer of light seemed to appear.
