Chapter 38: Chaosheng Wakes Up
Chaosheng wakes up.
After being scolded by Xichong, the Whale Shark Beastman retreated timidly, not daring to provoke this grief-stricken young master any further.
Xichong had rushed over as fast as he could after hearing the commotion from the Whale Shark Tribe.
Rusui naturally accompanied him by his side.
Unlike Xichong's sorrow and despair, she stared blankly at the wound piercing through the abdomen, a trace of disbelief slowly rising in her eyes.
This is...?
She thought of Rutong's death again, like a nightmare; call her insane if you will, but she just felt that this wound looked like it was done by that Mermaid.
If it were true, how could she dare?
Rusui clenched her fists tightly, her pupils trembling; Sister Xizhi was the female with the most potential and status in the Polar Sea.
How could that sinful female dare to kill Rutong first, and then kill Sister Xizhi?
Xichong barely held back his emotions, forcing himself to try and see his sister's condition again—perhaps she wasn't dead yet?
"Oh, right!"
"Where is the physician?"
"Go find the physician quickly!"
Xichong suddenly remembered that physician with the strange personality and shouted at the surrounding Whale Shark Beastmen.
Although the physician's background was unknown and his conduct eccentric, one had to admit that the physician's medical skills were excellent.
"This... this, the physician is gone too..." a Whale Shark Beastman said, his body trembling.
They had gone to find the physician the moment they discovered the patriarch's tragic state, but he just happened to be missing at this very moment.
"What? You can't find him?" Xichong tightened his jaw, anger rising in his eyes, and spat under his breath—what useless trash!
"Mate, why not have the veterinarian from your Tribe come take a look..."
After Xichong finished speaking, he realized his Mate did not answer him; he turned his head in confusion and saw his Mate standing there, staring blankly at Xizhi's corpse.
He took Rusui's hand and shook it, "Mate?!"
"Ah, huh." Rusui came back to her senses; beneath her calm surface, her heart was in turmoil. She looked at Xichong's anxious expression, hesitating whether to voice her thoughts.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Ha, nothing... nothing at all."
Yinxu stood outside the crowd of Beastmen, his eyes dark as he listened to the whole thing.
Xizhi is dead.
Sheng is missing.
What on earth happened last night?!
No one could answer his doubts. He carefully scanned this area of the sea, ensuring nothing had been missed.
Only then did he hold onto a final shred of hope—perhaps Sheng had already returned.
The sea light shimmered, the waves sparkling.
The pale blue light hit Yinxu's dark skin; his exquisite and handsome features were now full of gloom, and his speed was faster than it had ever been.
Passing corals, reefs, fish, shrimp, and Sea Beastmen, he finally returned to the familiar Ice Cave.
The Ice Cave was as cold and quiet as ever, with only the occasional fish swimming past; there were no other changes.
Yinxu's heart sank; things were heading in the worst possible direction.
Sheng had not returned.
She was gone.
Without another thought, he hurried into the cave and shook the still-sleeping Baini awake, "Wake up!"
Baini turned over, his mouth twitching impatiently, as if he had been disturbed from a good dream.
"Sheng is missing!"
Baini's twitching mouth paused, and the one eye he opened rolled twice, as if he were finally digesting this news.
He suddenly sat up in shock, his mind stinging with numbness, which quickly sobered him, "What?!"
Yinxu quickly recounted the sequence of events to him: "Yesterday, Sheng said she wanted to go see the Whale Shark Tribe."
"But she hasn't returned yet."
"And..." Yinxu paused, saying heavily, "Xizhi is dead."
"What?" Baini's black pupils constricted; the languor on his handsome face vanished, replaced by anxiety and agitation.
They both knew that Xizhi's death was likely inseparable from Sheng.
But where is Sheng now?
How... is she?
He suddenly stood up, his pained mind now clear, "Let's go find Sheng."
"I will go back to the Tribe and have Mother send Beastmen to help look."
"No!" Yinxu, who had thought more deeply about it, rejected his suggestion, "The news of Xizhi's death has already spread."
"If you spread the news of Sheng's disappearance now, every Beastman in the Polar Sea will know."
"It's too much of a coincidence for one to die and one to go missing in a single night."
"Especially since there was already bad blood and a feud between them."
"Any Beastman with a brain will be able to figure out the connection."
"If we can find Sheng a step earlier, that would be fine, but if the Whale Shark Tribe's Beastmen find her first..."
The consequences would be unthinkable.
Even though Baini was accustomed to acting willfully, he was not a reckless fool who could not listen to reason; he naturally understood what Yinxu meant.
It was precisely because of this that he was even angrier.
He kicked away the seaweed mattress he had been sleeping on as if to vent his frustration, pacing back and forth agitatedly, "Then you tell me, what should we do?"
"Let us go and search for it first."
One could only pin one's hopes on this, Yinxu thought gloomily.
"If that really doesn't work, you will have to go back and ask the Beastmen of the Jingju Tribe for help."
"Fine."
……
In a space wreathed in black mist.
Zhuche spat out his scarlet snake tongue with satisfaction to lick his lips, his forest-blue snake pupils contracting obsessively, hiss, so fragrant.
The little Mermaid sleeping in the very center had her eyes tightly shut; her bright, flowing purple hair was now somewhat dim, and her crimson lips were pale from blood loss.
The swollen, purple bruise on her neck now only remained as a faint reddish tint, showing no signs of the near-fractured state it had been in before.
Zhuche curled his lips in satisfaction; he had said long ago that Snake Saliva could heal wounds.
What a truly delicious Mermaid Female; he almost did not want to let her go home.
A dark glint flashed through his forest-blue, cold eyes, and his magnificent snake tail knotted itself in agitation; Zhuche looked at the little Mermaid, pursing his pale lips in distress.
Tsk! What a troublesome problem.
Now that the moment to meet the little Mermaid had truly arrived, Zhuche began to grow nervous, a fleeting panic and helplessness welling up in the depths of his eyes.
Would the little Mermaid also be afraid of him, just like that group of ignorant Sea Beastmen?
Zhuche did not know, and he dared not think about it.
If the little Mermaid were afraid of him……
This conjecture was too terrifying; he uncontrollably contracted his ghastly snake pupils, a faint chill rippling across his enchanting features.
Time passed bit by bit amidst Zhuche's internal struggle.
"Mm……"
Chaosheng twitched her eyelids slightly, her long, thick eyelashes trembling, and a delicate moan escaped her lips.
Her neck had been injured, so her melodious voice was now a bit hoarse, and her dry, swollen throat felt both painful and parched.
She slowly opened her eyes, and a wisp of black smoke swept past her vision; she almost thought she was hallucinating.
She closed her eyes heavily, as if wanting her consciousness to become two parts clearer.
"You are awake?" Dragging his snake tail, Zhuche flashed over nervously.
In his space, he possessed absolute freedom.
Her two beautiful, delicate eyebrows knitted together; hearing this unfamiliar voice, Chaosheng confirmed that it had not been a hallucination just now.
It seemed she had arrived in a rather different place.
Could it be……?
