Chapter 40: Chaosheng Has Returned
Chaosheng has returned.
The sky grew darker and darker, and Yinxu and Baini met up, having gained nothing.
"It's no use, I can't find her at all." Baini was under immense pressure, his rebellious brows and eyes now full of gloom, his youthful, clear voice tinged with impatience, "I'd better go ask Mother and the others for help."
Yinxu nodded heavily, "Mm."
For now, there seemed to be no better way.
In the cold and desolate cave, Yinxu waited in despair, praying devoutly in his heart.
Sea God, please protect his Mate so she can return home safely.
The Sea God answered his prayer.
At the edge of the Ice Cave, a small purple head popped up, her deep purple eyes incredibly clear, "Hm? You're all here?"
Usually at this hour, they should have gone out to forage, but for the past few days, Baini hadn't liked foraging; he had taken a liking to sleeping.
Yinxu raised his eyes in astonishment; the expression on the little Mermaid's beautiful face was vivid, and the large tail behind her flicked back and forth, shimmering with dazzling light.
This was no illusion.
"Sheng!"
Baini called out in pleasant surprise, unable to wait to pull the little Mermaid up and hold her tightly in his arms.
Yinxu stood to the side, feeling lonely; a trace of envy flashed through his dark brown eyes, and his knuckly fingers curled slightly, as if imagining the little Mermaid's slender waist.
The Orca pressed his scorching body heat against the little Mermaid's warm, smooth skin, the gloom on his face fading as he looked at the little Mermaid cautiously, "Sheng, where did you go?"
His slightly hoarse voice carried a faint grievance and a sob, "I thought... I thought I would never see you again."
Baini pouted, about to bury his face in the little Mermaid's fragrant neck to seek comfort.
A slender, glowing finger tapped his forehead, and Baini looked up in dissatisfaction, "Sheng, what are you doing?"
The perverse and rebellious youth looked at you with a beautiful face full of grievance; no one could bear to be cruel to him.
But Chaosheng was not just any ordinary person.
Chaosheng's gentle voice held firmness, "Put me down first."
She had been held enough.
"Hmph!" Baini snorted coldly, full of reluctance, but still obediently put the little Mermaid down.
Chaosheng straightened her tail and stood naturally in the seawater.
"Sheng, you... what happened last night?" Yinxu asked hesitantly.
Actually, he wanted to ask where she went today and how she came back.
"I..." Chaosheng opened her mouth, then paused.
What happened last night was a bit complicated.
She really didn't know how to tell them.
"Yeah, Sheng." Baini also looked at her earnestly, his gaze tinged with a hint of nervousness, "What happened to you last night?"
"Are you hurt anywhere, or are you feeling uncomfortable?"
Chaosheng shook her head in conflict, and after organizing her words, she said, "I... when I went to look for the Whale Shark Tribe last night, I saw the Yusheng Flower."
"Then, when I heard Xizhi talking about me, I couldn't hold back my temper and revealed myself."
"When Xizhi saw it was me, she went crazy and wanted to come up and tear me apart."
"Then I got into a fight with her."
For some unspeakable reasons, Chaosheng omitted the existence of the physician; she lowered her eyelids, masking the guilt in her eyes, and continued, "Xizhi grabbed my neck."
"She was very strong, I couldn't struggle free, my head felt dizzy from holding my breath, and so... I accidentally killed her."
Chaosheng didn't quite dare to look at Yinxu and Baini's expressions, feeling as if she had caused trouble.
Last time she killed Rutong, it brought retaliation from the Mad Shark Tribe and the Whale Shark Tribe; back then, she only thought about how she was full and the whole family wouldn't be hungry, so killing her was just killing her.
What else could happen?
But now she had her own family, and she didn't want to implicate Yinxu and Baini because of her mistakes.
Come to think of it, if she hadn't provoked Xizhi, Baini wouldn't have been poisoned by the Shelan Grass last time.
Baini's expression didn't change after listening, and a hint of satisfaction even appeared between his brows and eyes, "Killing her is fine."
"Even if you didn't kill her, Mother and I would have found an opportunity to kill her!"
Baini said in a fierce tone; they Orcas were vengeful, and not having gone to kill her before was just because there hadn't been a good opportunity.
After hearing this, Yinxu wasn't surprised either, as he had already guessed this fact.
His expression was calm, as indifferent as if a small fish or shrimp had died; he completely forgot that this female had once proposed to him.
His heart was calm and waveless, without any stirring.
The only ripple that arose was rejoicing that it was his Mate who had survived.
A deep meaning flashed through his dark brown eyes, his pale eyelashes falling onto his eyelids, and he comforted the uneasy little Mermaid in a gentle voice, "It's okay."
"Those Beastmen don't know it was you."
"The Whale Shark Tribe must be in a mess these days, and I guess no Beastman will go to guard the Yusheng Flower."
"Sheng, if possible..."
"No need." Chaosheng shook her head gently, tacitly knowing what Yinxu was going to say next.
"I plan to try another method."
Just after leaving the space, she had discovered the Chunze Vine.
The purification and adsorption ability of the Chunze Vine was not as strong as the Yusheng Flower, but its operation was not as complicated, and more importantly, it could purify the Mental Sea of many Beastmen at once.
She remembered the reluctant look in Zhuche's eyes when she asked him to help her look after these green vines, and the corners of her mouth curled into a smile involuntarily.
His dark brown eyes were slightly surprised, then he restrained his expression, "Then do you need our help?"
"No need."
The Chunze Vine has harsh storage conditions, but the fresher it is, the better its effects, so let the Chunze Vine continue to grow on its roots for now.
Baini was uncharacteristically quiet as he listened, and before long, his eyelids began to fight each other, a faint drowsiness spreading across his handsome face.
He leaned lazily against Chaosheng's shoulder, smacked his lips, and slowly closed one eye.
Feeling the weight on her shoulder, Chaosheng asked Yinxu with worry in her eyes, "When did he wake up?"
Is he this sleepy already?
Yinxu estimated and said, "Probably this morning."
"We spent the whole day looking for you today; perhaps he is exhausted."
Hearing this, Chaosheng pursed her lips, her eyes drooping with guilt, "I'm sorry."
"I made you all worry."
Yinxu smiled slowly, looking at Chaosheng with gentle eyes, as if no matter what she did, he would tolerate her.
"Sheng, you are our Mate."
"Anything we do for you is as it should be; there is no need to apologize."
Chaosheng looked at him, moved, yet she did not agree with his words.
This time, she had indeed been impulsive.
If it weren't for Zhuche, she would have been in trouble this time.
Baini closed his eyes and nuzzled against Chaosheng's translucent white neck, as if he had caught a whiff of something annoying, and wrinkled his high-bridged nose in disgust.
……
Cyan vines grew in a tangled mess, and a magnificent blue sea snake lay lazily upon them, its flat, long tail winding lonely around a Chunze Vine.
Its forest-blue snake pupils looked resentfully at the vine before it.
From time to time, it flicked out its scarlet snake tongue, making a hissing sound.
The little Mermaid said that if he didn't see this wretched vine next time, he wouldn't pay any attention to him.
