Chapter 5: Xichong
Xichong
Baini pulled Chaosheng and walked to the other side of Polar Island, where many Beastmen were also setting up stalls to sell goods.
It was only at this moment that Baini realized how ambiguous their current posture was.
The beautiful little Mermaid was right beside him, and every breath was filled with the fragrance from the little Mermaid's body; it was as wonderful as a dream.
"Are you... really going to choose me as your Beast Husband?" Baini asked with his head lowered, feeling uncertain; such a dreamlike event required him to confirm it repeatedly to put his heart at ease.
The beautiful little sprite who had saved him that day had taken the initiative to say she wanted to be his Mate?!
"Yes." Chaosheng tilted her head and blinked innocently, "However..."
Baini was just about to be happy, but hearing Chaosheng pause intentionally, he instantly grew anxious and asked impatiently, "However what?"
Chaosheng looked at him with an ambiguous expression, her tone probing, "I won't be a matrilocal wife."
"I don't like living in a Tribe, and it's impossible for me to stay in the Jingju Tribe with you."
"Ah? I never thought about that either..." Baini was stunned, scratching the stray hair behind his ears in confusion; females were precious, and the practice of being a matrilocal wife had long since gone out of style, and he had even less intention of letting Chaosheng be one.
Chaosheng currently had no Tribe, and he was also thinking about finding a good sea area to live in with her.
"Really?" Chaosheng's expression froze, and as if thinking of something, she suddenly smiled; she pulled on Baini's arm, looked up, and blinked her beautiful eyes, "You really never thought about that?"
Caught off guard by the proximity, Baini's mind went blank for a moment; after he reacted, heat surged within his body, and he unnaturally avoided Chaosheng's gaze, his eyelashes trembling, "Mm, wherever you want to live, I will live there with you."
Chaosheng straightened up and nodded as if satisfied, "Alright then."
The little Mermaid stood thinly on the icy ground, wearing a beast-skin skirt made from mermaid scales on her lower body, and covering her key areas with two shells on her upper body; unlike other females who were adorned with various pearls and gemstones, she was like a piece of rare, unrefined, and uncarved jade.
Baini's heart was beating extremely fast; his gaze fell on the shells on the little Mermaid's chest, and the skin exposed at the edges of the Moon Sea Shell was whiter than the shells themselves—such rough shells were completely unworthy of the little Mermaid.
Baini's eyes dimmed slightly, and his Adam's apple bobbed, "Sheng, is there any jewelry you like?"
"After a Male Beastman and a Female Beastman take a liking to each other at the Treasure Hunt, as long as the Male Beastman gives the Female Beastman a piece of jewelry and the Female Beastman accepts it, it means the marriage between the two Beastmen is settled."
"?" Jewelry? Chaosheng thought of the ring Ruyao wore and her eyes showed longing, "I want a pearl that is big and round, the kind I can hang around my neck!"
In her previous life, when she was a Witch, she was very poor and never had the chance to own her own jewelry. The pearl was round and bright, and she fell in love with it at first sight.
Infected by Chaosheng's happiness, Baini raised his eyebrows, revealed his sharp tiger teeth, and smiled, "Okay!"
The most beautiful and rarest pearls in the Polar Sea were the Black Pearls produced by the Black Butterfly Shell Beastmen; Baini's eyes darted around, and he locked onto a Black Butterfly Shell Beastman not far away.
"Sheng, let's go."
Baini took Chaosheng over; the Black Butterfly Shell Beastman was thin and short, but had a jet-black, lustrous skin that looked just like a living Black Pearl.
Baini communicated with a Black Butterfly Shell Beastman, who silently glanced at Chaosheng before untying the beast-skin bag hanging from his waist and handing it to Chaosheng, "Choose slowly."
Chaosheng held the heavy bag of pearls, terrified that they might spill out if she wasn't careful; her beautiful purple eyes turned, "Then I'll go sit over there and choose." She pointed to a stone not far away, and after getting the Black Butterfly Shell Beastman's permission, she sat down holding the pearls.
More than half of this bag was Black Pearls, and there were also some white ones, colorful ones, and some pearls in colors Chaosheng couldn't describe.
It was the first time Chaosheng had seen so many beautiful pearls; she was curious and treasured them, staring at them without blinking—this one was so big, this one was so bright, this one was so beautiful...
"Do you see any you like?" Baini leaned over and asked.
Chaosheng stared at the pearls, her eyes dazzled by the selection, and she couldn't pick her favorite, so she had to plead, "Let me choose a little longer, okay?"
Her cold voice carried a hint of softness, and Baini felt his heart melting as he listened; he estimated the price, walked over, and said to the Black Butterfly Shell Beastman, "Can I buy all of these?"
The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman looked at him in surprise, his mouth agape in shock, "Buy... buy them all?"
Baini nodded without hesitation, "Mm, I want to buy them all."
Their Tribe's Sea Spirit Ginseng would be secured! The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman's eyes glowed as he looked at Baini before him, almost exclaiming out loud! As if afraid that Baini would go back on his word if he were too slow, he hurriedly said, "Yes, yes! You can just give us one thousand Crystal Coins."
Baini weighed the bag hanging on his beast-skin skirt; it was exactly a little over one thousand; he thought for a moment and decided to just give it all to the Black Butterfly Shell Beastman, "Can you help me string a small garment for a female with the pearls? Use the best-looking pearls, and if there are any left over, string a necklace."
"I can do that." The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman counted exactly one thousand and eighty Crystal Coins and immediately beamed, "Thanks! Our Tribe is just waiting for these Crystal Coins so we can go buy Sea Spirit Ginseng later!"
"The Beastmen at this Treasure Hunt are all waiting to use Crystal Coins to buy Sea Spirit Ginseng, holding onto their coins so tightly... I was afraid I wouldn't be able to sell the pearls."
"Our Tribe has no ability, and our Crystal Coins have all gone to exchange for prey, sigh..."
"I hope you can buy the Sea Spirit Ginseng." Baini lowered his eyes, uninterested; seeing Chaosheng standing obediently to the side, his fierce brows softened—how could Sea Spirit Ginseng compare to his little Mermaid?
"Baini, I've chosen!" Chaosheng walked over happily holding a pearl; this Black Pearl wasn't the biggest, but the luster on it was extremely beautiful, with a faint purple-pink tint within the white halo.
The moment she saw it, Chaosheng fell in love with it.
"But..." The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman had just wanted to say that she didn't need to choose, as they were all hers.
But Baini spoke first, "Is the Black Pearl pretty?"
"Mm!" Chaosheng nodded happily.
"Then these all belong to you." Baini went to get the pearls he had already bought, "I bought them all; let these pearls be my dowry, okay?"
Black Pearls were not cheap; one thousand Crystal Coins was Baini's entire life savings accumulated from childhood to adulthood.
Chaosheng's hand holding the pearl paused; the cool pearl felt hot in her hand; the phrase "Baini likes you" gave Chaosheng a sense of reality for the first time; she looked at Baini, moved, and all her words turned into one: "Okay."
Unfortunately, the touching atmosphere only lasted for a moment before it was ruined by an arrogant and wild voice.
"I want to buy pearls; bring me the best pearls you have!"
A Male Whale Shark Beastman walked over arrogantly, followed by two Male Beastman attendants; he looked like a pampered young master.
"But... the pearls have already been sold." The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman looked at the incoming Beastman, trembling with nervousness, his head buried low, not daring to look directly at this Whale Shark Beastman.
Xichong held his chin high, looking at him with displeasure, "Sold out?"
"Yes, yes, they were all sold to him..." The Black Butterfly Shell Beastman timidly reached out and pointed at Baini and Chaosheng.
The bag of pearls in Chaosheng's hand emitted a dazzling light; Xichong's face darkened, and after a glance, he looked at Baini, clearly recognizing him, "Yo, just reached adulthood and already know how to buy pearls to please a female?"
"But Baini, your taste is really terrible." Xichong swept a disdainful glance at Chaosheng and looked at Baini haughtily, "Letting trash that only has looks be your Mate?!"
"I didn't know you were such a shallow Beast!"
"!" Chaosheng's mind went 'duang'; was he just complimenting her for being pretty?
She quietly scrutinized this strange Beastman; his temper was really bad, but he seemed to know Baini? The newcomer was ill-intentioned; Chaosheng decided to observe the situation first before making plans.
"You... are courting death!"
Baini ground his tiger fangs, wanting to rush up and fight Xichong.
Since they were young, Xichong had always viewed him as a mortal enemy, always coming to find trouble with him, wanting to best him.
He could let other matters slide, but Xichong shouldn't have, absolutely shouldn't have, dared to involve Sheng!
Seeing this, Chaosheng pulled back Baini, who was about to make a move; the warmth of her palm calmed Baini down, and Chaosheng looked at this arrogant and domineering Male Beastman, her tone calm, "The business between the two of us should have nothing to do with you, right?"
Xichong snorted coldly, his eyes rolling almost to the sky, "It does now."
He looked at the pearls filling Chaosheng's hands, "I want these pearls!"
"Does a sinful female who was exiled even deserve to use such good things?"
Chaosheng's brows furrowed tightly, a flash of cold light passing through her amethyst-like eyes, "What did you say?!"
Even if she were made of clay, she would have to get angry when faced with repeated, malicious cries of "sinful female."
She restrainedly closed her eyes, her drooping fingertips slowly gathering Witch Power; if this ignorant Beastman before her dared to make a rash move, she wouldn't mind adding one more "beast" life to her hands.
"You..." Xichong spat, wondering how this trash female could make him feel an aura of danger; he cowardly shifted his gaze to Baini and demanded harshly, "Baini, are you insisting on going against me?"
"It is you who wants to go against me," Baini said in a cold voice; this guy had loved to compete with him since they were small, yet he could never beat him in anything, and had caused no small amount of trouble because of it.
Xichong did want to teach them a lesson, but knowing full well he couldn't beat Baini and not wanting to lose face on a day like today, he could only point at him in a fit of rage and leave a harsh threat, "Fine, Baini, you just wait!"
"I will make you regret this."
