Chapter 52: Black Rift Valley

~7 min read 1,373 words

Black Rift Valley

The place where Guxian and Xiaodu lived could no longer be called a home.

It was just a barely sheltering reef; at this moment, the dumbo octopus was angrily shaking its fleshy fins, its eight tentacles moving back and forth on the reef.

"Brother, where did you go?"

"You're only coming back now?"

Chaosheng stared at the two cute fleshy fins on the little octopus's head, her fingertips itching slightly, and a wicked glint flashed in her deep purple eyes. "Your brother said you weren't being obedient, so he asked me to come and check on you."

Chaosheng made up a lie on the spot, her two hands already having successfully touched the little fleshy fins she had been itching to get her hands on.

With the fleshy fins pinched in the bad female's hands, the little octopus couldn't shake them at all, and it tried hard to pull at her with its eight short tentacles.

Although the little Mermaid looked delicate, no matter how much strength the little octopus used, it couldn't pull her away.

"I wasn't being disobedient!"

The little octopus bared its mouth, almost wanting to bite her.

Guxian's gaze deepened, his soft, beautiful voice carrying a hint of warning. "Xiaodu."

Hearing this warning, the little octopus let its eight tentacles drop in defeat, its two eyes instantly losing their luster, and it let the bad female rub it like a dead fish.

Guxian watched this scene indulgently, his affectionate eyes containing a hint of satisfaction.

Very good, the Mermaid Female not only didn't seem to reject the octopus, but she actually liked it.

Precious females in the ocean usually choose as their first priority Male Beastmen from powerful Tribes and those with powerful innate abilities.

Octopuses are solitary creatures and do not have Tribes.

Guxian had once joined a not-so-good Tribe; the females of that Tribe were disgusted by him and loathed him, yet they coveted his innate abilities, humiliating and whipping him every day to make him submissive, but unfortunately, in the end, the entire Tribe was wiped out.

Unlike those cold-hearted Octopus Beastmen, Guxian had longed for the existence of a mate since he was born, and for this, he was willing to go against his own nature to join a Tribe and live in a group.

Unfortunately, not a single female in that Tribe could awaken his hectocotylus, and the existence of the Tribe did not earn him a female he desired.

A Tribe without utility has no value.

In the end, Guxian's patience ran out, and he raised his hand to destroy that Tribe.

He had originally thought he would have to live alone for the rest of his life, but look at what he had found: a beautiful Mermaid Female, a female who could awaken the impulse of his hectocotylus.

Chaosheng had finished kneading the little octopus, and to compensate the little octopus who was so angry he didn't want to speak, Chaosheng took the initiative to offer to hunt for him to fill his stomach.

The little octopus rolled his eyes, thinking that he shouldn't pass up a free meal, and even suggested and instructed Chaosheng on which fish to hunt—fish he usually couldn't catch on his own.

His brother only occasionally gave them to him as a reward and would never spoil him by letting him eat them every day.

"I'll go with you."

Guxian looked at Chaosheng, who was about to leave, and said hurriedly, "I know where the fish he mentioned are."

"I'll go with you."

Chaosheng looked at the petite little octopus, thinking that the little octopus seemed quite smart and should be fine on his own, but she still perfunctorily instructed him, "You have to be good, okay? Wait for us to come back from hunting."

After saying this, Chaosheng followed Guxian and left.

The little octopus shook his thin, cicada-wing-like fleshy fins twice, a flash of unclear light appearing in his cute, dazed eyes. That's not right, how did he get left behind again?!

The orange little octopus turned red with anger where he was; for a long time, the red grew deeper and deeper until it was as dark as ink, blending in with the reef.

The fish the little octopus specifically asked for were icefish and mackerel; Chaosheng usually ate more cod, so for a moment, she didn't know where to find these two types.

She could only slowly follow behind Guxian.

His long red hair floated like spilled ink, and the thin, chiseled muscles of his fair abdomen gradually became visible, revealing graceful lines.

After watching for a while, Chaosheng blinked and surveyed this unfamiliar route.

The Polar Sea was very large, and Chaosheng hadn't been to every part of it.

She opened her mouth slightly, and a string of small bubbles rose mischievously, her purple eyes watching them listlessly.

Suddenly, her delicate nose twitched, and a wisp of inconspicuous blackness drifted into Chaosheng's nasal cavity; this scent was so familiar.

?!

This is? Black Filth?!

Her purple eyes suddenly gathered focus, and she said softly, "Guxian."

Guxian's keen hearing caught this tiny sound; he stopped and looked at Chaosheng with clear, puzzled eyes, his mouth opening and closing silently, "What's wrong!"

Chaosheng flicked her tail, and with one surge, she swam to a distance of less than a foot in front of Guxian, saying in a voice that only the two of them could hear: "I want to go over there and take a look."

Chaosheng pointed in the direction from which the Black Filth was drifting, her eyes deepening, lost in thought, as a rough guess formed in her mind.

But whether it was correct or not, she would have to wait until she saw it with her own eyes to know.

Guxian naturally agreed; this delay meant they could spend more time together.

Strange Beastmen?

It's fine, they'll get familiar soon enough.

"Okay."

Chaosheng led Guxian as they swam over; although the scent in the seawater was already making one's head dizzy, there were many Beastmen gathering in this area, back and forth.

The commotion they were making was also growing larger.

"Come here." Chaosheng pulled Guxian and hid behind a coral reef.

Through the tiny gaps, she observed the Beastmen not far away.

There seemed to be a rift valley in front, and the Beastmen were rising and falling within the rift, moving back and forth constantly.

Chaosheng was stunned for a moment; her guess had been confirmed.

This was the Black Rift Valley that Shanlan had spoken of.

The Black Filth rose slowly from the rift valley; just by standing here for a while, Chaosheng felt that she was no longer clean, as these Black Filth were drifting into her body.

Even though the Black Filth cannot contaminate females.

Guxian stayed quietly to the side, his handsome brows furrowing uncomfortably, a trace of disgust flashing in his eyes.

"Are you alright?" Chaosheng asked with concern, having made a plan in her heart, "How about you wait here, I'll be back shortly."

"Don't," Guxian said in a low voice, his icy body temperature falling onto Chaosheng; she shivered uncomfortably, as it was her first time coming into contact with a Beastman whose body temperature was lower than her own.

Baini and Yinxu both had very high body temperatures.

Guxian lowered his eyes, looking at her imploringly, appearing pitiful, "Let me go with you."

"I won't hold you back."

Chaosheng was silent for a moment, then said decisively: "Fine."

Both Chaosheng and Guxian were in human form; compared to body lengths of several or even over ten meters, human form was already considered very inconspicuous.

With a thought from Chaosheng, a cluster of two-meter-tall seaweed instantly appeared before them.

As they moved, the seaweed moved along with them.

Using the seaweed as cover, Chaosheng and Guxian quickly reached the edge of the rift valley.

"What is that?"

The supervising Whale Shark Elder saw this, and the crab meat he was eating in his hand no longer tasted good.

He walked over to investigate with a displeased look on his face, as if he wanted to stare a hole through the cluster of seaweed to find the anomaly within.
