Chapter 56: So Many Beastmen

~7 min read 1,235 words

So many Beastmen.

"..." A black line slid down Chaosheng's forehead as she looked at the Sea Spirit Ginseng floating in the water, and she sighed silently, "It is only poisonous if ingested; touching it is fine."

"Oh." Baini smiled with a guilty conscience, seemingly realizing what a foolish thing he had just done; he swam over eagerly and picked up the Sea Spirit Ginseng, "Sheng, I didn't know..."

Baini looked at the Sea Spirit Ginseng in his hand, troubled; he didn't know whether to keep it or throw it away.

"Give it to me." Chaosheng reached out her hand and took the Sea Spirit Ginseng back, "I will examine it carefully these next few days."

"Perhaps it isn't what I thought."

"Sigh!" Baini took this as Chaosheng trying to comfort him; if even Sheng suspected as much, the result was likely close to the truth.

All the veterinarians in the Polar Sea combined did not know as much as Sheng.

Chaosheng was staring blankly at this mysterious Sea Spirit Ginseng when she was interrupted by a familiar voice.

"Mermaid Female, may I come in?"

The frail, pale Beastman had several fresh cod jumping in his arms; he walked in on his own accord with a gentle smile, "I heard you like to eat cod, so I brought some specially for you."

A flash of hostility and vigilance crossed Baini's round black eyes, "Why is it you?"

"What are you here for?"

"We don't need these."

He bared his fangs at this pretentious Male Beastman, his brow dark and gloomy; hunting for the female was his duty as her Beast Husband.

It was not just any Male Beastman who could hunt for Sheng.

Guxian curled his lips slightly, a glimmer of hope in his eyes, which were as brilliant as rubies, "I caught these for you together with Xiaodu."

"He liked the fish yesterday very much and specifically caught these cod with me to repay you."

Chaosheng thought of that cute little octopus, and her eyebrows twitched, "Put them down."

"Hah!" Baini's brow darkened; after one or two times, could he not see what kind of bad intentions he had?

"That little octopus caught them? Then why didn't he come?!"

"Liar!"

Guxian remained calm and composed; he even slowly tucked some loose hair behind his ear, "Xiaodu didn't want to come, so I had to be the one to come instead."

"Is there a problem?"

His cold, desolate red eyes met those round black eyes, filled with provocation.

"You..."

Baini was furious, sparks flashing in the depths of his eyes; without another word, he sent three Wind Blades flying toward Guxian.

The first two Wind Blades grazed Guxian's thin face, and as the third Wind Blade flew back, Guxian suddenly trembled, "Ah!"

The sharp Wind Blade sliced a bloody mark into his beautifully curved chin, adding a touch of bewitching allure to his pale face.

His slender, scallion-like fingers touched his left cheek, revealing the half-cut bloodstain, and he looked at Chaosheng helplessly and pitifully, "It hurts so much..."

If Guxian had directly questioned or blamed Baini, Chaosheng would naturally have protected Baini.

But the frail Male Beastman before her was saying he was in pain so pitifully, without blame or resentment, and Chaosheng didn't know what to do.

"Baini!"

Chaosheng's tone grew heavier, her purple eyes sharp, "Come here."

"Sheng..." Baini's clear voice was full of reluctance, thinking that Chaosheng was going to punish him.

If she wanted to punish him, so be it.

He did not regret it.

His black head hung down dejectedly, like a child who had done something wrong.

He retreated silently behind Chaosheng, his eyes dim.

Chaosheng took a slight breath, then went up to comfort Guxian, "I'm sorry, my Beast Husband hurt you."

"Is there anything you want?"

"I will do my best to compensate you."

Guxian looked straight at her, a hint of stubbornness amidst his frailty, "I don't need compensation."

Chaosheng parted her lips, conflicted: "Then..."

"Then grant me one request." His red eyes flickered, and Guxian's tone softened slightly, "You have done me a kindness."

"Then let me bring you three cod every day."

Chaosheng looked at him, troubled: "This..."

She seemed somewhat reluctant.

"Don't agree to him!" Baini shouted, then stared coldly at this cunning Male Beastman, "Put away those little schemes of yours."

"Is it not allowed?" Guxian lowered his head in disappointment, his tone tinged with faint sadness, "Then... just one month, is that okay?"

"Just let me bring them to you for one month, and I will be satisfied."

Chaosheng's expression softened; now, both reasonably and emotionally, it was not appropriate to refuse again.

"Is even one month... not allowed?"

The mournful voice sounded to Chaosheng as if she were bullying him.

"Fine, fine."

Chaosheng finally relented; it was only a month, it shouldn't affect anything.

Baini saw this scene from behind and took a deep breath, his perverse brow and eyes icy cold; he wants a month, does he?

Then he would let him know that this month would not be so easy.

Chaosheng finished eating a cod in an extremely strange atmosphere.

Then, with a listless expression, she put down her hand, "I'm finished eating."

"This is too little, how can you be satisfied with just one fish?" Guxian persuaded with worry, his eyelashes trembling awkwardly, "Is the fish I brought not to your taste?"

"No." Chaosheng closed her eyes helplessly, feeling that she was in urgent need of sleep to soothe her headache, "I just don't have an appetite."

"Alright, then you must tell me when you have an appetite, and I will catch more for you."

Upon hearing this, Baini let out a cold scoff, a flash of disdain crossing his pitch-black eyes, "I don't know if you're truly stupid or just pretending, can't you tell that Sheng just doesn't want to eat your fish?"

"That's not it."

Guxian's expression darkened slightly, his deep red eyes chilling severely; this Beast Husband of the Mermaid Female was truly annoying.

They were all more troublesome than the last.

"Enough." Chaosheng spoke coldly, looking at these two Male Beastmen with a flash of anger in her eyes, "From now on, no talking while eating."

It was truly annoying to death.

She looked resentfully toward the distant sea and sky outside the cave; why hadn't Yinxu returned yet?

At this moment, she longed for Yinxu to be here; that would be better than suffering through this torture alone.

Unfortunately, she did not wait for Yinxu, but instead waited for an unexpected Beastman.

Honglianlian burst in, panting heavily, a string of bubbles escaping from her mouth, "Quick... quick, there are... there are many Beastmen coming to cause trouble for you!"

Finally finishing the sentence in one breath, Honglianlian managed to catch her breath.

She had known this news, but she had swum here all the way, using all the energy she had had since breaking out of her egg.

"What many Beastmen?" Chaosheng frowned slightly, looking at Honglianlian in confusion.

And they were coming to cause her trouble?!

The figure of Xizhi vaguely flashed through her mind, her purple eyes turning icy and brimming with a faint killing intent; could it be that the Beastmen of the Whale Shark Tribe had found out about her killing Xizhi?!

Were the Beastmen of the Whale Shark Tribe coming to seek revenge on her now?!
