Chapter 119: Surprise Attack

~7 min read 1,212 words

Firelight shot up to the sky, shouts of killing shook the earth.

Donghai and Baitou, leading a few men, charged ahead; they waved their weapons, each swing taking several lives.

Although the Persian soldiers were well-trained, days of hunger and the sudden attack threw their formation into disarray, leaving them

without any power to resist.

Jiang Xiaomu reined his horse and stood on a small hill, coldly observing everything.

【System Prompt: The host invaded the enemy camp and encountered the Persian Commander Aqizi】

【The host was no match, killed by the Persian Commander.】

【The Persian army, victorious, pursued and attacked Wangjiang Cheng, beginning a massacre.】

【Jiang Xiaoyu and others died in battle.】

【Please choose whether the host should continue attacking or retreat.】

The abrupt system alert exploded in Jiang Xiaomu's mind, shocking him stiff.

Death? Massacre?

These two words were like two huge boulders, heavily pressing on his heart, making him barely able to breathe.

"Impossible!" Jiang Xiaomu growled low, disbelief flashing in his eyes.

He never imagined he would die here, and his sister would also suffer utter destruction.

Kasim, the foremost fierce general under Aqizi, his silver armor gleamed in the firelight.

He wielded a fine steel saber, its edge flashing cold light; each swing brought a rain of blood.

"Damned infidels, dare to sneak attack my great Persian army!"

Kasim roared angrily, a single slash split an enemy soldier in half.

Donghai and Baitou, the two top experts of the Ghost Face Army, joined forces to block Kasim.

The three fought as a mass, blades flashing, killing intent pressing in.

"Kasim, your opponents are us!"

Donghai snorted coldly, thrusting his long blade straight at Kasim's throat.

"Overestimating yourself!"

Kasim snorted disdainfully, swung his saber to block Donghai's attack.

Baitou seized the moment to strike from the side, his spiked club whistling as it smashed hard toward Kasim's head.

Kasim hastily sidestepped; the spiked club grazed his helmet, knocking off its feather.

"Too close!"

Kasim secretly marveled, the two Ghost Face Army commanders' martial arts were surprisingly formidable.

He dared not underestimate them again, going all out in battle with Donghai and Baitou.

Wen Zheng and Sha Zhi led soldiers in a frantic assault on the Persian camp's main gate.

Although the Persian soldiers resisted fiercely, under the fierce offensive they kept retreating.

"Hold out! You must hold out!"

A Persian commander shouted hoarsely.

The Persian soldiers gritted their teeth, resisting to the death.

However, the offensive was too fierce; the Persian soldiers gradually could not hold, and their line began to collapse.

"Quick! Go ask for reinforcements!"

The Persian commander yelled in terror.

Soon, almost all forces within the Persian camp were shifted to the main gate, fully resisting the army's advance.

Although Kasim was highly skilled, facing the combined attack of Donghai and Baitou left him somewhat overwhelmed.

"Damn it!"

Kasim cursed inwardly, knowing he could no longer continue to entangle.

He feinted a move, forcing Donghai and Baitou back, then turned and ran toward the camp interior.

"Want to run? Not that easy!"

Donghai and Baitou pursued relentlessly.

Kasim ran while swinging his saber backward to block Donghai and Baitou's attacks.

"Stop chasing!" Wen Zheng shouted:

"Our goal is to breach the camp; first, don't worry about him!"

Donghai and Baitou exchanged a glance, then halted their steps.

Kasim seized the chance to flee back into the camp.

"Sir, are you all right?"

A Persian soldier asked anxiously.

"I'm fine."

Kasim waved his hand.

"Quickly gather the archers and shoot those infidels!"

"Yes!"

The Persian soldier received the order and left.

A dense rain of arrows, like locusts, surged toward Donghai and others, a dark mass covering the firelight.

Fortunately they had prepared; huge shields linked together formed an iron wall.

The constant "ding-ding-dang" sound echoed as arrows struck the shields, sending sparks flying.

"Damn it! These heretics actually had preparations in advance!"

Kasim spat fiercely, he had thought this volley of arrows would drive off those reckless fools, but he didn't expect it to not even raise a ripple.

Just as he was about to order a second round of shooting, a soldier covered in blood came crawling and running to Kasim's side, shouting in terror:

"Sir! It's terrible! The granary…… the granary is on fire! And also, also the war horses…… the war horses also……"

"What's wrong with the war horses? Speak quickly!"

Kasim grabbed the soldier's collar in one fist, his eyes bulging with rage.

"The war horses…… all the war horses have gone mad! They bite anyone they see, they trample anyone they see! Many of our brothers have been……"

The soldier's voice trembled, his eyes full of fear.

Kasim suddenly released his grip, the soldier collapsed to the ground, gasping heavily.

The granary is on fire, the war horses are out of control; this successive bad news made Kasim realize that the frontal assault was merely a feint, the true killing move lies ahead!

"Damn it! We've fallen into a trap!"

Kasim gritted his teeth.

"Pass the order: immediately send people to put out the fire and control those mad horses!"

"Also, gather all remaining forces to search the camp; we must ferret out any infiltrators and kill them without mercy!"

At this moment, the Bosi army camp was already in utter chaos.

The raging flames dyed half the sky red, thick smoke billowed, making it hard to breathe.

The frightened war horses neighed, galloping wildly in all directions, trampling anything that blocked them.

And the mastermind behind all this was none other than Huoshu, who had infiltrated the camp.

Under Ye Ying's meticulous planning, Huoshu moved like a ghost through the camp, setting fires everywhere and creating chaos.

He held a strange talisman in his hand, muttering incantations, like a magician, and tossed it casually.

The talisman turned into a fireball; wherever it landed, that spot erupted in blazing flames.

"Hehehe, burn, burn, the fiercer the better!"

Huoshu removed his mask, revealing the half of his face that had once been burned; he greatly enjoyed the sensation of the raging fire consuming him.

Ye Ying, meanwhile, hid in the shadows, calmly observing the situation and continually issuing orders to Huoshu.

"Huoshu, go burn their armory now! Remember, swift and decisive!"

"Hehehe, received!"

Huoshu gave a hehe laugh, his figure flashed, and he vanished into the night.

The armory was a vital stronghold of the Bosi army camp, heavily guarded.

But for Huoshu, this was no problem at all.

Relying on his agile movement, he evaded the patrol soldiers' sight and slipped into the armory silently.

"Hehehe, there really aren't a lot of good stuff!"

Huoshu looked at the piles of weapons like mountains, greed flashing in his eyes.

But he hadn't forgotten his mission; he produced another talisman again, muttering incantations.

"Boom!"

With a tremendous roar, fire shot up to the heavens, and the entire armory was instantly engulfed in a sea of flames.

The shockwave from the explosion flattened the surrounding buildings, countless soldiers were blown into the air, and wails echoed through the night sky.

Having completed his mission, Huoshu turned to flee, but just as he was about to escape the camp, a figure suddenly appeared before him, blocking his path.

"You want to run? Not so easy!"
