______ Walking with Love fifty-three
In this quiet night without starlight, moonlight, human voices, or bird sounds, anything can be thought, anything can also not be thought.
Remember that Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai wrote the "Quiet Night Thought" that even children can recite by heart. At that time Li Bai left his family, left his friends and wandered afar; in the quiet night, his longing for home was urgent, he foolishly gazed at the lone moon outside the window, thinking of nothing, only thinking of the land that gave him birth and raised him—his hometown.
This person, how strange they can be: whether drifting to the ends of the earth or to a remote corner, no matter how much wealth, no matter how high or low their official position, whether successful or not, whether their career thrives or amounts to nothing, they always think of their homeland; no matter how fine the scenery elsewhere, no matter how poor the scenery at home.
Even if the hometown has no mountains, no water; or even if it has mountains but no water; or has water but no mountains; has mountains but lacks flowers and grass. It is a bald, barren mountain. Yet he still loves that bald, barren mountain of his hometown.
Even if the hometown gives him nothing, is not the root of his life still planted in his homeland? Although this life is weak. But, having this weak life, what more could you want?
Having this weak life, we can only think…………………………………………..
How precious this life is!
Only with life can one be called a person, only then can one work in sunlight, think in moonlight, starlight, or lamplight; only then can one face a lone lamp and moonlight to express, to speak of love or lack thereof.
How great this life is! This life, too, how important it should be!
In the animal kingdom, they do nothing else; everything is for the existence and protection of life.
Everything is for the survival of life.
As the saying goes: 'People die for wealth, birds die for food.' This is the ordinary difference between humans and beasts. The ultimate goal of human life is wealth; whereas beasts have no goal—any bird or beast merely needs to stay alive.
For beasts, anything can be dispensed with, but this life cannot be forsaken. For that bit of food in their mouths, they can give up their lives! Everything for life is the instinct of animals.
But humans are different; besides life, they also want wealth. 'People die for wealth.' In fact, this is also the lowest demand of life, the most ordinary life.
If human life is only for wealth, then such a life is not much different from that of beasts—roughly similar, basically the same, with no difference——
You see you busy all day, only knowing to make money; sitting you think of money, standing you think of money, even dreaming you dream of money. Without money you don't speak, without money you don't walk. All day besides money, it's still money.
Living like this, are humans not even worse than beasts?
You see the birds in the sky, the beasts in the mountains; when they have eaten and drunk their fill, the bird still knows how to sing for people to hear; the beast knows how to dance for people to see.
We humans, when we satisfy our own life and its necessities, should we not also do something beneficial for others? In this way we distinguish human life from beast life.
Should we not also offer our love for the world, our love for others??!
