Chapter 665: January 2: The Wanderer's Salute
January 2: The Wanderer's Salute
January 2: The Salute of Wandering
The Bible says: "When you went out into the wilderness before, what did you want to see? Did you want to see reeds swaying in the wind? When you went out, what exactly did you want to see? Did you want to see someone dressed in fine soft clothes? Those who wear fine soft clothes are in the palace. Why then did you go out?"
Yes, we go out wandering here and there—what is it, after all? The answer is certainly unique: to see what we have not seen, to obtain what we have not obtained. This thing is beautiful, good, new. It is something we did not have before, something others have not seen; or something others have that we lack, something they have seen that we have not.
Could this be the meaning and motivation of our lives?
For what we already have, which we are familiar with, perhaps we have grown weary of it and no longer cherish it, or do not know how to cherish; we may even destroy it, recklessly trampling and abusing it.
O world, when my heart does not fervently kiss you, your brilliance fades.
In human affairs, there are right and wrong, gratitude and resentment, spring blossoms and autumn moons—these things will accompany us on our journey. Some can lead us into new realms, making our humble lives nobler, more splendid, more fulfilling, enriching the content of life; others are stumbling blocks that make us fall into the mist of deep valleys, bowing before the feet of fate: fearing the rugged mountains and treacherous waters ahead, we feel the day's end and the road's end, spending our lives in the shadow of contemplation, each day feeling like an eternity.
Ah, my companions, we in this world are like travelers. Let's walk forward together!
Morning, pushing open the window to look: the sun is how bright! The dew is how beautiful! The air is how fresh! Heaven and earth are how vast, how great——
"O the brightness of the newborn morning,
"O the eternal sun of daytime,
I offer you an eternal salute!
My guide,
I am a traveler on an endless road,
I offer you a salute of wandering!
