Chapter 666: January 3: The Purpose of Walking
January 3: The Purpose of Walking
January 3: The Purpose of Walking
After I finished the day's journey and dragged my weary body back to my room, my heart stayed on the road—still calculating the unknown path, worrying about the wind and rain on it, and planning tomorrow's itinerary.
"Don't worry for life about what to eat or drink, or for the body about what to wear. Is life not more than food? Is the body not more than clothing?"
Yes, life surpasses food, and the body surpasses clothing. Could it be that life exists merely for food, and the body merely for clothing?
Our purpose in walking is to find another stretch of scenery in life's journey, embodying the meaning of life's next stage. Although we sometimes feel our lives are as tiny as ants, our souls remain as vast as the sky; the reason our souls are so vast lies in never stopping walking, seeking while walking, and appearing in the search.
It turns out that the 'scenery' missing from life's journey, and we hope that this 'scenery' will bring surprise to our lives. If we are satisfied with what we have, dwelling on the past: 'Born here, live here, die here.'
Then what difference is there between our lives and the insects on blades of grass?
On the bronze vessels of the Shang dynasty, such characters were engraved to admonish the subjects: If one could wash away the dirt on one's body in a day and make oneself anew, then one should cleanse oneself daily, never missing a day, to achieve a new self each day—a clean self, a beautiful self, a pure self, a noble self.
If one forever remains the original self: a self covered in filth, a lazy self, a self prostrate at others' feet, then such a self ought to be carefully examined.
My Lord——
"Don't let me sink and disappear in the listless abyss."
Don't let my life be shattered by emptiness and poverty.
Don't doubt—— irritating dust that vexes the heart —— surrounds me.
Don't let me wander many paths to seek many riches.
If one gains the whole world,
and sacrifices one's life,
what profit is there?
What can one give in exchange for life?
Don't let me yield unwillingly to the shackles of many.
You must let me have my own views and thoughts.
Let me, on the journey,
summon courage and raise my head.
Sweat all the way, song all the way.
Come experience being human——
Value and dignity
