That beautiful girl and the bald-headed monk

February 15: That beautiful girl and the bald-headed monk

In the previous chapter, the book spoke of Daiyu and that bald-headed monk. The monk enjoys speaking alarmingly, exaggerating, uttering nonsensical words that people half‑understand, in order to bewitch hearts and, intentionally or not, lead people into the clouds.

Listen to his 'Song of Completion'———

Everyone knows that immortals are good, but only fame and rank are unforgotten! Where are the generals and ministers of ancient and modern times? The desolate graves are nothing but piles of grass.

Everyone says immortals are good, but only gold and silver are unforgotten! All day they lament gathering too little; when they finally have plenty, their eyes close.

Everyone says immortals are good, but only a beautiful wife is unforgotten! The lord daily speaks of affection, yet when he dies he follows others away.

Everyone says immortals are good, but only descendants are unforgotten! Devoted parents have been many since ancient times, yet who has seen filial sons and virtuous grandsons?

This bald-headed monk sings the 'Song of Completion', but actually in his view nothing is good; everything in the world is empty, the four elements are all empty.

The monk's words most easily lead people astray, making them unable to see the future.

Therefore, the monk's words are especially not to be trusted.

Especially the bald-headed monk's words are nothing but baseless talk.

What 'In the world, all things: if it's alright, it's done; if it's done, it's alright; if not done, it's not alright; if you want it alright, you must finish it.'

Isn't this sophistry?

Even little Daiyu says: 'This monk crazy‑talks these nonsensical things, and no one pays him any heed.'

Daiyu's 'nonsensical talk' means speaking without reason, babbling nonsense about clouds and mist; naturally, one shouldn't pay attention to such talk.

Look at this girl Daiyu, so young yet with such strong ability to discern right from wrong; no wonder she has read the 'Four Books'. The theme of the 'Four Books' is to teach people the principles of being human and the ability to distinguish right from wrong.

But that 'Feng Laizi' is not the same.........
