Chapter 755: Bring something to the world

Bring something to the world

April 6: Bring something to the world

Tagore said: "I ask for nothing, only standing beyond the trees at the forest's edge"—when a person lives to the point of having no desires for the world, that too is a kind of highest realm of life.

In fact, this realm is not something everyone can achieve.

People always have desires.

Laozi said: "Usually, doing nothing yet leaving nothing undone." Non-action means the meaning of Tagore's "I ask for nothing." But Laozi also added afterwards "non-not-doing." The so-called non-not-doing means that in life, regardless of what matters, one must always do something. If a person comes into the world with no desires, what then is the meaning of his coming into this world?

"Hey, no, my friend, your words are too vague and hard to understand—I don't get it." This life is really sweet and interesting; and the world is thus lovely.

This sweetness is brewed by diligent hands. You should understand that, right?

But this world, however, has many things we spend our whole lives trying to understand. For example, hasn't someone said life is empty? Yet why does this empty life have so much content? We, with empty hands, why do our demands on the world become so many?

Who knows who said it: whoever contemplates the infinity of the universe and the insignificance of life will be shrouded in the mist of doubt rising in their heart. Western philosophers have also said something like this: to be without disgrace or honor is happiness.

No one knows who said: whoever contemplates the infinity of the universe and the insignificance of life will be shrouded by the thick mist of doubt rising in their heart. Western philosophers have also said such words: to have neither disgrace nor honor is happiness.

What distinguishes a person lacking a sense of honor and disgrace from the beasts that walk the earth and fly in the heavens? Among all life in this world, only humans are most precious; a person's preciousness lies in the fact that, while alive, they are not empty and will always, more or less, bring something to the world—plus, because humans have a sense of honor and disgrace, they know shame.

A person without a sense of honor and disgrace—how is that different from the beasts that walk on earth and fly in heaven? Among all life in this world, only humans are the most precious; the preciousness of humans lies in that, while alive, they are not empty and will always, more or less, bring something to the world; and also because humans have a sense of honor and disgrace, they know shame.

We don't know

Where we came from first,

"Where should we go?" This person sometimes lives too bewildered, forgetting their origin and destination. But the truly awake person, yet is also a person in the dream ___________

Where should one go." This person sometimes lives too bewildered, forgetting where they came from and where they are headed. But the truly awake person, however, is again the person in the dream ___________

The universe's sleep is deepening!

I, who am alone awake,

"but merely a figure in the dream?" This is how people, in their confusion, awake yet say they are dreaming; while the person in the dream, however, is very happy! The reason for that happiness is forgetting everything about the world.

But the figure in the dream?" This is the person who, bewildered, awake, says they are dreaming; while the person in the dream, however, is very happy! The reason for that happiness is forgetting everything in the world.

Present me,

"Am I too sorry to you?" Those who feel sorry toward time surely feel that life still has many things to do, and these things urgently await them; or perhaps they previously wasted much time, now suddenly feel the preciousness of life, that people cannot live emptily, must bring something to the world, and only then do they feel "sorry toward time."

"Sorry toward time", "Bring something to the world", is this another awakening of people toward life?

"Sorry for time", "Give the world something", is this another awakening of humanity to life?
