Foolish deeds and stupid deeds are somewhat similar, but not exactly the same; while stupid deeds refer to actions done when one is slow-witted.

Baoyu, people at the Rouge Studio call him "the one unparalleled in ancient and modern times". The Rouge Studio is Cao Xueqin's kindred spirit, and naturally also Baoyu's. The Rouge Studio says Baoyu is "the one unparalleled in ancient and modern times", not meaning Baoyu has any special talent, mainly referring to Baoyu's especial infatuation with love; Cao Xueqin calls him a "Flirting seed" or "deep Flirting".

Since Dream of the Red Chamber came to be known, whenever people mention love, they inevitably think of Baoyu's deep Flirting cherished love for Daiyu. To be able to create the foremost love in ancient and modern times, therefore no matter what the outcome of that love and affection is, it can also be considered a miracle!

In this world, many people want to create miracles; but few can actually leave behind a miracle.

Baoyu, Grandmother Jia says he is the family's 'Demon King'; Lady Wang says he is different: 'From childhood, because the old lady doted on him, he was held in her mouth fearing heat, held in her embrace fearing a fall, the beloved treasure. This "Demon King" has been raised by Grandmother Jia together with sisters of his age since childhood. All day he darts in and out of the cosmetics pile, his whole body scented with rouge, indulged by Grandmother Jia and others. If the sisters ignore him, he is quieter; but if one day the sisters speak an extra word to him, he feels delighted and then gives rise to many things. He usually speaks in a silly, foolish manner, making people laugh especially. He often says: "Girls are flesh and bone made of water, boys are flesh and bone made of earth; when earth touches water, it changes its form. When a boy touches a girl, he too becomes different. So, when I see a girl I feel fresh; when I see a boy I feel murky, foul, and offensive."'.

Therefore Lady Wang especially warned Daiyu: 'You must absolutely not pay attention to him, hang out with him. Don't listen to his momentary sweet talk; when he speaks, his words are unpredictable, crazy and foolish—do not believe him, for in the blink of an eye he can bring about many things.'

Daiyu, hearing Lady Wang's evaluation of Baoyu, initially didn't care. But when she first saw Baoyu, Baoyu carefully examined her and actually said such foolish words: 'This sister, I seem to have seen her somewhere before.'

Seen her somewhere before? That isn't foolish talk, is it? It is foolish talk, and also a word of fate. Baoyu said Daiyu and she seemed to have met there; was it by the banks of the Spirit River in the vague beyond?

Grandmother Jia, hearing Baoyu's foolish words, couldn't help but laugh: 'This foolish child, you're spouting nonsense again: where did you see your Miss Lin?'

This, Grandmother Jia just doesn't know the details: the matter of the banks of the Spirit River in the vague beyond—how could Grandmother Jia know?

At that time, Baoyu was still a stone by the banks of the Spirit River, and Daiyu was a beautiful Fairy Herb beside the stone. But the stone has more vitality than the grass: the stone can move and wander under the push of wind and rain; whereas the grass, even if it is a Fairy Herb, wind and rain can only make it strong, not make it move. Thus, that stone became a protection and a reliance—is that fate?
