Chapter 1923: 1855 Not Just Making a Wedding Dress for Others

~7 min read 1,311 words

Xie Yiren seemed not to have heard what Su Yun was saying, focusing intently and lightly pointing to the number of instruments with the circulating nurse.

This is quite important.

Usually, some operators and assistants like to clip the hemostatic forceps onto their own sterile sheet for easy access when needed.

But sometimes, when the surgery gets tense or the conversation gets lively, they forget the forceps are still clipped on the sterile sheet. After the surgery ends, discovering a forceps is missing, everyone is dumbfounded.

When the surgery can't proceed, everyone frantically searches in a tense mess, digging three feet deep throughout the operating room.

Whenever this happens, the doctor who caused the problem will slink away, hiding their head in a crack in the ground.

Without this light-pointing work, if a surgical instrument were to fall into the patient's body, it would surely cause a serious problem later!

"I'm going down." Zheng Ren saw Lin Ge improving a bit, so he wanted to go down with him.

"Boss, you really have no curiosity at all." Su Yun said with a chuckle: "You don't even care what Song Ying wants us to eat?"

"What's there to care about?" Zheng Ren asked strangely: "It doesn't matter what we eat; I'm fine with anything."

"You really haven't tried dark cuisine, huh." Su Yun sighed. Xie Yiren suddenly turned her head, glanced at him with the corner of her eye, then went back to checking the instruments.

Su Yun froze, realizing she had said the wrong thing.

Would Xiao Yi Ren talk to Chang Yue? Not speaking would be seeing a ghost.

Su Yun immediately focused on suturing the skin, her speed suddenly picking up, while Fang Lin fumbled with tying knots and cutting thread.

But no matter how fast his hands were, he couldn't keep up with Su Yun.

After suturing the skin, there were still dozens of threads left, densely packed.

Su Yun also fell silent, beginning to focus on tying knots.

"Send the patient back, don't forget the post-op precautions; if you can't remember something, don't force it—just message or call me." Su Yun instructed.

"Got it, Yun Ge'er." Fang Lin's hand was a bit cramped; the speed just now was too fast, and he could barely keep up.

Because the patient needed ventilator support, Lao He's medication wasn't stopped either; he chuckled and asked: "Yun Ge'er, what's for dinner tonight?"

"They say there are Yunnan mushrooms; we'll have a mushroom feast tonight." Su Yun said.

"This isn't the season for mushrooms, is it?"

"From March to September is mushroom season; in Yunnan they might eat mushrooms all year round."

Su Yun obviously lost interest after Xie Yiren's brief glance; she said just a sentence, tore off her sterile gown, and stepped down directly.

Zheng Ren and Lin Ge were changing clothes in the locker room; Lin Ge obviously had something on his mind, speaking incoherently, and Zheng Ren couldn't be bothered to make small talk.

"Boss, want to grab dinner tonight and find Old Liu?" Su Yun asked as soon as she came in.

"Calling."

"I took a look this morning; Old Liu's side is booming." Su Yun said: "Though he's timid, he can really endure hardship."

"Oh?" Zheng Ren looked up at Su Yun.

"You promised Old Liu you'd book him several surgeries; that night we were supposed to go out on a mission—do you remember?" Su Yun asked.

"I remember." Zheng Ren said: "Tomorrow we have many surgeries; the day after? Find time to bring Old Liu for two surgeries."

"Any word from Sheng Cheng yet?"

"Old Liu hasn't told me yet; just wait. For this surgery, it mainly depends on the family's opinion. If they approve, we'll go back and do one. But for now I don't want to do a double interventional procedure at once; it's safer to start with embolization. I'll work out the details later."

"Yeah, for someone that age, once the heart stops, it really can't be revived." Su Yun also agreed with Zheng Ren's view.

"Boss Zheng, want to go out with the flying knife?" Lin Ge asked.

Zheng Ren recounted to Lin Ge his entire experience meeting Xia Hua; Lin Ge felt a bit wistful.

Zheng Lao Ban went from that bird-shit-free place in Hai Cheng to a lifetime professorship at Massachusetts General Hospital in what seems too short a time. Even an elderly person with late-stage cancer hasn't yet reached the end of life.

What else can be said?

Words are pale and powerless.

"By the way, I'll go see the old chief of the Emergency Department; I'm a bit homesick." Zheng Ren smiled.

"Director Wang supposedly is doing well over there." Lin Ge said.

"Yeah, surgeries have expanded a lot. City First Hospital also uses capital experts for publicity, squeezing other hospitals in the city to the point of being harsh."

"A few years earlier, though, Director Wang's level is still not bad." Lin Ge said: "When it came to gastroenterology, second-line professors basically had nothing to do."

Zheng Ren smiled, noncommittal.

Speaking of gastroenterology, he immediately thought of Director Wei's stockings……

Tsk tsk, really vivid. Fluffy thighs, slowly pulling up the stockings, beautiful to the point of being hard to look at directly.

I don't know when Director Wei will muster the courage to have me perform radiofrequency ablation on his great saphenous varicose veins.

The procedure itself is simple; it's just that Director Wei has a psychological barrier.

To say this person—having done surgery all his life, when it comes to his own body, he's actually afraid of even a minor outpatient procedure.

Whenever Zheng Ren thinks of this, he feels many patients' odd behaviors are understandable.

The old saying goes, "talking while standing doesn't hurt the waist"—that makes sense.

"Song Ge, do you have time tonight?" Su Yun had already started contacting Song Ying over there.

"Sure, today might be crowded; let's go eat your big spender."

"Medical Team, a dozen or so people."

"No need to pick up; we'll go ourselves."

After saying that, Su Yun hung up the phone.

"Leave early tonight; once rush hour hits, the traffic gets terrible." Su Yun said: "I really don't like the traffic here; I wish we could just take a helicopter."

"When we can finally fly helicopters, won't the sky be full of them?" Lin Ge laughed.

Afterwards he saw Su Yun's expression was a bit odd, like she wanted to laugh but forced herself not to.

Lin Ge thought it over, then realized the Medical Team's income was absolutely beyond his comparably. It's said that when going on a mission to Nanyang, even before the plane took off, two boxes of medical fees had already been tossed to the security guards by Zheng Lao Ban.

Such a grand gesture…… Lin Ge feels a bit envious.

Forget it, nothing is foolproof; just hold onto this post well, first settle the Science and Education Department, then talk.

Thinking of this, Lin Ge froze for a moment.

He had actually been scheming all along, but he must never end up doing the work for someone else's benefit.

Conveniently, while changing clothes, ask Zheng Lao Ban.

"Um, Zheng Lao Ban, Doctor Su, if we go all out to get teaching and research off the ground, what if I'm transferred back to the Medical Department later?" Lin Ge didn't hide anything; he had already figured out Zheng Lao Ban's temperament.

Speak plainly—how busy is Zheng Lao Ban?

"Nothing to fear." Su Yun said: "The Medical Team only liaises with you; if personnel change, we won't accept responsibility."

"Mm." Zheng Ren nodded: "We work together very smoothly; changing personnel might cause trouble. Surgery live broadcast—this kind of thing is risky. If it's inconvenient for you to say, I'll find time to discuss it with Director Yan."

Lin Ge felt warm inside.
