Chapter 2031: 1959 Full of Curry

~7 min read 1,286 words

Before he got back to the department, Zheng Ren heard a faint wailing.

Which patient passed away?

It might be the case; he didn't mind, letting himself relax as he walked in.

The nurse station was empty; in the doctors' office, Liu Zewei was finishing his last work, Professor Rudolf Wagner was busy, seemingly not noticing his arrival, fully focused.

Meanwhile, the Intervention Department doctors from Ward 912 were all gathered around the duty room, in a chaotic mess, not knowing what they were doing.

Zheng Ren had no interest in this; he walked into the office and casually asked, "Old Liu, what's wrong?"

Liu Zewei rubbed his head, wanting to speak but stopping, his expression a bit awkward.

He wanted to laugh but felt it was wrong, forcing himself to hold back. Holding it in made his forehead lines almost split; seeing that, Zheng Ren felt uncomfortable.

"What's wrong, Old Liu?" Zheng Ren wondered.

Su Yun didn't follow him in; he ran straight to watch the commotion. This guy gets energized by crowds, the opposite of Zheng Ren.

"Boss Zheng, aren't there intern nurses in the department?" Liu Zewei rubbed the top of his head faster and faster, Zheng Ren felt his hand was always greasy.

A greasy middle-aged man, that's probably what it means.

"Um... there's a post-op patient who today feels abdominal bloating and needs an enema."

Zheng Ren was doubtful; isn't this a routine procedure?

Patients with liver cancer undergoing interventional surgery often have abdominal bloating. Actually, traditional medicine makes sense; explanations like liver qi stagnation can fully account for it.

But in Western medicine, they're at a loss, unable to explain it, only able to resort to something like a mystical nerve reflex explanation.

Zheng Ren has been doing clinical work for many years; he's already used to this.

It's just an enema; why is it causing a fuss like a major medical dispute?

Lin Yuan didn't go to watch the commotion; she followed Zheng Ren into the office, still very rule-abiding.

"Old Liu, why are you speaking so hesitantly?" Zheng Ren asked.

"Uh..." Liu Zewei sighed, "This isn't the new little nurse, right? She's not familiar with the procedures."

"Yeah, you just said that." Zheng Ren became even more curious.

"For the patient's retention enema, she lacked experience; when pulling out the plug..."

Zheng Ren instantly understood.

For a retention enema, some places let the patient hold it in until they can't anymore; this method is slightly less effective, after all the patient can't stand it for just a few minutes.

But Ward 912 has that kind of anal plug, timing it and then pulling it out...

Could it be that the little nurse didn't know and got sprayed all over?

No wonder she's crying so sadly.

Seeing Zheng Ren's expression of understanding, Liu Zewei didn't continue. After all, talking too much about such excrement isn't interesting.

In clinical work, we deal with excrement almost every day, so we don't really mind it.

"Lin Yuan, go study medical records with Old Liu; tomorrow Old Liu goes home, you'll take over writing the medical records." Zheng Ren assigned the task.

Lin Yuan was also happy; she swung her ponytail and sat beside Liu Zewei, humbly asking for advice.

Zheng Ren wanted to read a book, but the sobbing cries showed no sign of stopping, the crying was utterly heartbreaking.

Sigh, she's still young.

Zheng Ren remembered when he first started work, rotating in the proctology department. After surgery, changing dressings, one day while changing a patient's dressing he saw a relatively intact corn kernel.

He casually asked, "Did you eat corn?"

He himself was fine, but it made the patient nauseous enough to be offensive.

When the patient was about to be discharged, he told Zheng Ren, "I never want to eat corn again in my life." Just thinking about it makes him feel especially embarrassed.

Generally, the proctology department is closely related to such matters, but today this thing... sigh.

Zheng Ren sighed, doing work can really be tough.

I hope that little nurse recovers quickly, without leaving any psychological trauma. Besides, it's nothing; just wash the clothes.

She's probably too young; she can't accept the feeling of being sprayed all over with curry for a while.

These people too, gathering to advise, the more people the more embarrassing; don't they realize that?

Soon, Chang Yue pulled Su Yun back.

"Why go join the fun for nothing!" Chang Yue said unhappily, "Let that girl cry a bit and she'll be fine."

"Really lacking compassion." Su Yun frowned, saying, "Boss, that girl is too pitiful."

"Just wash the clothes, can't you not scare people like that." Zheng Ren said casually.

"Uh..." Su Yun glanced at Liu Zewei and asked, "How did you talk to the boss?"

"I just gave a brief explanation." Liu Zewei said innocently.

"Boss, that girl just graduated; as a newcomer she's not yet familiar with the work." Su Yun said, "Besides, she's quite conscientious, so she went over to look."

Chang Yue frowned.

Zheng Ren asked in astonishment, "Could it be that she pulled out the anal plug because it was too close?"

"You guessed right." Su Yun also helpless, "The head nurse couldn't persuade her no matter what; that girl kept washing her face, I feel the skin on her face is about to wear away."

"You're the one with all the trouble!" Chang Yue said.

"Compassion, big sis!" Su Yun nagged.

Zheng Ren recalled the scene... this thing really shouldn't be imagined; even Zheng Ren, a seasoned doctor, can't bear it.

Reading a book?

Reading a damn book.

As long as he calms down a bit, that image fills Zheng Ren's vision and mind.

Really, that little nurse has been wronged.

Zheng Ren sighed and said, "I'll go take a stroll around the Emergency Department."

"Let's go, I can't stay here either." Su Yun said, "Just hearing the crying fills my mind with curry."

"Really disgusting, how will I ever eat curry rice again?" Zheng Ren muttered.

Under Chang Yue's fierce glare, the two slunk out of the office.

Lin Yuan didn't follow; the work arranged by Boss Zheng was still the most important.

If that bald-headed old doctor leaves tomorrow and I can't write medical records, delaying clinical work, that would be bad.

"Boss, what do you think of the newcomer?" Su Yun asked on the way.

"I don't know about his skill, but his mental fortitude is strong." Zheng Ren said, "Can you say less?"

"It's obvious he's just here to freeload!" Su Yun said disdainfully, "The Nobel Prize project team—whether or not they actually win the Nobel, it's still an impressive résumé."

"Don't think that way," Director Kong told me, "she's the daughter of Lin Yuanzhang, the head of the Tumor Department in the Imperial Capital."

Tsk.

"Lin Yuanzhang means, let you be even more sharp-tongued, and scold her back to where she came from."

……

Su Yun froze for a moment, then burst out laughing, "After all these years, this is the first time I've encountered such a demand. Boss, what did you say?"

"I didn't say anything; I just said normal work—if you can't handle it, you naturally go back. The workload of our Medical Team is too much for ordinary people."

"You still know that?"

Zheng Ren couldn't be bothered to argue with Su Yun about this, and hurried to the Emergency Department, where he saw Zhou Litao explaining the condition to a woman in her thirties.

The woman was leading a small boy who looked about fifteen or sixteen, and both of their System Panels were fine.

But the little boy was clutching his stomach, looking in pain.
