Chapter 2490: 2403 You guys are chatting idly, I

2403 You guys are chatting idly, I'm in surgery.

"What happened next?" Quan Xiaocao lowered her head; even now she doesn't dare look at Su Yun.

"What more could there be? People kept dying and no one believed it. In 1928, a female worker making radium dial watches fell ill; she thought it was radiation from the radium element causing it, so she sued. Right up to her death, nobody believed her."

"Back then, a bottle of water containing radium cost one dollar. That's equivalent to… nowadays it would be about 200 soft sister coins per bottle. Long‑term, heavy consumption of radium‑laced drinking water killed many people."

Su Yun said, legs crossed.

"So the conclusions drawn from current technology aren't necessarily the heaviest." Zheng Ren wasn't led off track by Su Yun's words; he brought the discussion back to the original topic: "People think nuclear magnetic resonance is harmless now, but who knows what the future holds—if the underlying theory gets a breakthrough."

"Boss, you're just arguing for the sake of arguing, you have a persecution complex." Su Yun said disdainfully.

"But looking at it now, these magnetic balls are truly harmful." Feng Jianguo said, feeling wistful as he counted the Magnetic Buckyballs Zheng Lao Ban had pulled out.

"Tch, there are far worse hazards." Su Yun said, "Atomic bombs were used in WWII, and after the war atomic pens became all the rage."

"Atomic pens? Aren't they still in use today?" Feng Jianguo asked in surprise; he really couldn't see what the problem was.

"That's not the atomic pen we use now; today's 'atomic pen' is just a homophone for ballpoint pen. Back then, the atomic pen was literally called atomicpen, containing genuine uranium samples and deadly polonium‑210."

"……"

The anesthesiologist sat in the middle of the machine, dumbfounded, and asked: "Yun Ge'er, does anyone buy this thing?"

"Holy crap, didn't we just say that? Ordinary people can't afford it—only the rich can consume it." Su Yun said, "Back then, people even fancied radioactive substance enemas."

"Tsk tsk, really asking for death." Several people were already completely at a loss for how to describe their feelings.

This is also a bit too weird.

"From now on, just keep an eye on the kids; if they misbehave, give them a spanking, but don't let them eat this stuff." Feng Jianguo said, feeling wistful while looking at the TV screen: "No matter how big the injury in the belly, even if septic shock is cured, the innards will end up a messy mess of adhesions. Why not just take out the appendix outright? If appendicitis ever flares up, we'd expect peritoneal adhesions that would make surgery difficult."

Feng Jianguo's joke wasn't funny at all; nobody picked up on it.

"Cut the nonsense, watch the kids? Kids still need reasoning; you can't just rely on beating them." Su Yun, bored out of his mind, had a lot to say about this surgery.

"What?"

"Back then, people superstitiously believed that anyone's bad habits could be corrected through radiation therapy, thereby sending more 'healthy' individuals into society and pulling those 'danger‑edge' unhealthy people back into the real world—a very important thing." Su Yun said,

"The same goes for parents." Feng Jianguo said.

"Just now you said you wanted to hit them." Su Yun retorted scornfully.

"Just joking—who could bear to strike their own flesh and blood?" Feng Jianguo said with a grin.

"Yun Ge'er, did the person who drank radium‑laced water eventually die?" Quan Xiaocao asked.

"He definitely died." Su Yun said, "Americans are so earnest—they put genuine, ample radium in the drinking water. When Baier died, his bones were severely corroded and his jaw even fell off."

"Uh……"

"When he was buried, they used a thick lead coffin. Radium's half‑life is 1600 years, so even if you open it now, it's still glowing brightly." Su Yun said.

"Prepare to rinse." Zheng Ren suddenly said in a low voice.

"All taken out? How many?" Su Yun asked.

"92."

"You're sure nothing was missed?"

"Sure, we can check after the operation."

As the rinse proceeded, feces were sucked out with the saline; one glance showed the infection was quite severe.

There were 12 perforation points: two at the gastric greater curvature, the remaining ten in the small intestine and colon.

Zheng Ren sutured them one by one; Su Yun fell silent, intently watching Boss operate under the laparoscope.

Even though he couldn't see the wound, a flip and twist of his long forceps pulled the intestine open, revealing several‑millimeter‑sized damage spots.

Su Yun looked a bit startled, but he said nothing; he merely imagined in his mind what he would do if he himself stood on the operating table.

Feng Jianguo noticed this too, and he watched Zheng Lao Ban's surgery with rapt attention. The procedure had little to do with skill; Zheng Lao Ban seemed to have a kind of precognitive ability.

"Boss, is this just a feel thing?" Su Yun asked, puzzled, after seeing Zheng Ren suture twelve wounds and begin to flush with saline.

"I noticed it when I was extracting the magnetic Buckyballs earlier." Zheng Ren said calmly, "You guys are chatting idly, I'm in surgery."

Su Yun didn't believe it, but there was nothing he could do—he simply couldn't think of a better excuse.

After the rinse, Zheng Ren double‑checked, uneasy; he found no missed spots, the surgery was complete enough, and there was nothing to worry about.

"Zheng Lao Ban, your surgery is getting more and more proficient." Feng Jianguo remarked somewhat wistfully.

He glanced at the clock—it was less than an hour.

If I were doing the surgery, I'd estimate at least three hours, and I might still miss all those hidden perforations.

Just look at Zheng Lao Ban—he can finish surgery while eating hot pot and singing.

"Feng Ge, why stand on ceremony with me?" Zheng Ren said with a smile, turned, and yielded the surgeon's position to Feng Jianguo so that he and Quan Xiaocao could close the abdomen together.

Watching his own boss turn with such practiced ease, Su Yun smirked inwardly.

"Zheng Lao Ban, I heard you've got 3D…" Feng Jianguo said, when his phone in his back pocket started ringing wildly.

He blinked slightly—really annoying, to have interrupted something so important.

"Xiao Sui, help me pick up." Feng Jianguo said to the anesthesiologist.

"Oh."

"I'll handle it." Su Yun, who happened to be free, fished the phone out of Feng Jianguo's pants pocket, glanced at it, answered, and put it to his ear.

"What?" came a hurried voice from the phone, and Feng Jianguo's own voice rose sharply.

"Is anyone hurt?! Get security, contact the Medical Department right away!"

"You… lot, step back and stay safe!"
