Chapter 2769: 2570 Congratulations

~7 min read 1,296 words

Ding Ling wondered which big-shot level person they were there to see.

The car arrived at the hospital; she accompanied Liu Muchun downstairs and entered the building with a faint disinfectant smell.

After all, Ding Ling was young and had little contact with hospitals; the faint disinfectant smell gave her a strange sense of ritual and solemnity.

"Senior Brother Sun, you've come too." Liu Muchun entered the doorway, saw the person standing at the elevator entrance, and greeted them with a clasped-fist salute.

"Muchun, how did you come?" the person said, somewhat surprised, but still returned the salute and asked.

"The older generation's matters are already over; besides, given how big yesterday's event was, as long as it isn't a grudge of killing fathers and stealing wives, one must come to offer congratulations." Liu Muchun smiled and said, "Speaking of which, Senior Brother Sun, the year before last..."

He trailed off, taking back what he had just said.

"Just like your thoughts, Muchun, this is a huge matter. Speaking of which, your fortune-telling is hereditary—did you happen to calculate it yesterday on a whim?" the middle-aged man asked.

Liu Muchun shook her head.

"Let's go upstairs," the person sighed.

The elevator arrived with a ding, the doors opened, and the middle-aged man shook his head and said.

Liu Muchun kept her smile and went up in the elevator with Ding Ling.

"Senior Brother Sun, I heard many elders went up the mountain last night, but the Yan family is refusing visitors—is that true?"

"Yes." The middle-aged man said solemnly, "For hundreds of years there has been none..."

As he spoke, he glanced at Ding Ling beside Liu Muchun. His gaze was substantive, and Ding Ling felt as if she were seen through in an instant.

"Nothing like this has happened; it's really strange—how did such a commotion break out overnight?"

"Originally, Master Yan was already old, and there weren't many capable people in his household; he had already begun to turn to secular businesses. But this Master Tan..." Liu Muchun wanted to say more but stopped.

"Don't say so much; be careful with words and deeds." The middle-aged man said, "In legend, chickens and dogs ascending to heaven shouldn't happen, but after this matter the Yan family will surely become powerful, and I don't know why they've sealed the mountain."

As he spoke, he gave an embarrassed laugh and said, "Even Senior Brother Yan has no time; they say they're only free when coming to the hospital to pick people up. I just saw people continuing to go up, hoping we aren't late."

What they said left Ding Ling bewildered; she could understand each sentence individually, but together she had no idea what they meant.

"Apparently, the Boss Zheng they hired to guard the Dharma is the one who protected Master Song earlier this year." Liu Muchun said, "This Boss Zheng really has something to say; before, I was careless and only thought Master Song's affair..."

Just then, the elevator reached the eighth floor; Liu Muchun stopped speaking and walked out in silence.

The moment Ding Ling stepped out of the elevator, she froze completely.

Outside the Operating Room, all kinds of people stood packed with hands clasped. She didn't know what had happened, but she felt these people's demeanor was similar to Boss Liu's.

Boss Liu, however, could only stand in a corner; Ding Ling secretly observed his expression, seeing not even a hint of displeasure.

"Even the Ma family sent people." Liu Muchun whispered, "In Pengcheng, the largest Grade-A office building broke ground the year before last; initially they hired his grandfather to do feng shui, but later they switched to Master Yan, saying the two families had become quite unpleasant."

"Circumstances are stronger than people." Senior Brother Sun sighed and said, "When I arrived, I was still pondering whether it was real or fake, but looking at today's scene, it must be genuine."

"The Yan family is really putting on airs..." Liu Muchun was a bit unhappy, but his expression didn't change at all; standing in the corner, he didn't even move his lips as he muttered softly.

"Junior Brother Liu, saying something you shouldn't—your words are going too far." The middle-aged man looked seriously at Liu Muchun and said, "Those few elders didn't even enter the mountain gate; they said Master Yan told them to meet visitors three days later. No matter their status, they're just honestly waiting below the mountain gate. We're using the Yan family's people as an opportunity to see Boss Zheng, say a few words, give a gift, and express our congratulations. We don't seek to forge connections with them; we just hope they don't bear a grudge."

Liu Muchun immediately said, "Senior Brother's admonition—I'll remember it."

"Don't be so formal; we're just calling each other senior and junior brothers, not from the same sect. I'm just a few years older, and my spirit has long been worn down."

"Right, Senior Brother, I heard a few years ago you had some minor friction with the Yan family—how did it end up?"

"I lost, what else could it be? The Yan family truly has deep foundations; just anyone coming along steals my business. People like us who engage with the world have little talent, know only a bit of three-legged cat kung fu—enough to point out ordinary folks. If the Yan family really made a move..."

As he spoke, he shook his head again. His head was naturally large; shaking it made him look like a rattle drum, somewhat comical.

Are these all ordinary people without talent? Ding Ling listened closely, her heart startled. What would a so-called strong person be like?

She began to grow curious.

"Senior Brother, do you really think the Yan family would dare let those elders just guard below the mountain? That's going too far."

"You also saw last night's commotion; I was then in the divination lesson, and the ancestral heavenly pattern lines shattered outright. Old items—what a pity." The middle-aged man said lightly.

"I was sleeping yesterday and actually dreamed—I found myself unable to escape in a sea of thunder. Only after that event ended did I wake up; to tell the truth, I lay there the whole night before barely feeling a bit better."

"Just look on honestly." The middle-aged man said, "What have you prepared?"

"I have no remaining wealth, so I just prepared some money. I guess the Yan family wouldn't look up to me, a little fish and shrimp, a lonely soul wandering wild; I'm just here to join the fun. I think who comes and what they give doesn't matter—whether they come at all is what's important." Liu Muchun said.

"Money? What are you sending that for?" the middle-aged man said, "You... sigh..."

"I also only have a little money left; you know what happened to my father back then—my abilities are just so-so, and it's already not bad that our lineage hasn't been broken in my hands." Liu Muchun said, "I've saved up over a decade's worth of money..."

"Don't bring it out to upset anyone; I have an extra one... never mind, we're fated, I'll give it to you." The middle-aged man paused, then, seeming to feel the pain, took out a worn cloth bag from his pocket and handed it to Liu Muchun.

"Senior Brother, how can I make use of this?"

"Whether they come or not is what matters; we're unaffiliated, and no matter how valuable the gift, it won't catch Master Yan's eye. It's fine—just take it."

The elevator chimed "ding," the doors opened, and Yan Zhangsen walked out.

He saw a crowd packed at the Operating Room door, his face sank like water, showing no expression at all.

"Brother Yan, congratulations!"
