Chapter 2807: with translation of chapter title
"Without a job, I can't even pay the mortgage on the house." the young man said softly.
"You wouldn't be a woman over thirty who's grabbed a gold brick, would you?" Su Yun asked in surprise.
The man remained silent, head down, smoking.
"What does 'woman over thirty who grabs a gold brick' mean?" Zheng Ren asked softly.
"Woman over thirty, grab a gold brick; woman over thirty, hand over the country." Su Yun looked at Zheng Ren with contempt and said: "You're truly out of touch with society; if it weren't for your Shou Bing being done well, you'd have been thrown onto history's trash heap and gone moldy long ago."
Yu Zong felt a little scared listening; Yun Ge'er talking back to Zheng Lao Ban like that—could there really be no problem?
Throwing this year's Nobel Medicine laureate into the historical trash heap to mold—only Yun Ge'er could say something like that.
"It's fine, for life." Su Yun looked down on Zheng Ren, then immediately with a kind expression comforted the young man: "We're all screwed by life into dogs; nobody needs to mock anyone."
"You're doctors—how are you still alive?" the man sighed.
"Alive? Jeez! You don't know. Those recent attacks on medical staff—do you know how much it costs to train a chief physician? It's not cheaper than training a pilot. Sigh, saying more just brings tears; don't take it to heart, I'm just venting." Su Yun said, "We work nonstop, day and night; the inpatient chief of our Emergency Department just quit a few days ago and is now at home taking care of the kids."
Su Yun let out a long sigh, then continued: "Nothing's easy. I used to... never mind, I won't talk about myself, let's talk about you."
"You too..." the patient said, giving Su Yun a strange look.
"I don't have." Su Yun didn't even bother to soothe the patient's emotions, immediately denying firmly: "But it's all the same—faced with life, everybody has to kneel. If you can kneel and still make money, that's badass."
"Yeah, everybody has to kneel." The young man sighed; he seemed to have found common ground with Su Yun, and the stiff tension in their words eased a bit.
"You haven't said anything about the choice yet." Su Yun continued asking.
Zheng Ren noticed that Su Yun had this trait: no matter how far the conversation drifted, he always remembered the main issue.
"I just wanted to make a bit of money, never expecting to run into a pervert who told me to choose between yellow eels and nails." The young man showed no resentment, merely said flatly: "One iron nail is 10,000, the second 20,000, the third 40,000, the fourth 80,000."
…
Zheng Ren had already figured out why there would be nine nails.
"Over five million, dude, you're awesome!" Su Yun also stared in shock, saying: "It's a lot of money, but surely not worth risking your life like that."
"…" The young man silently smoked; a cigarette was quickly finished, then he reached out and asked Su Yun for another.
"A house is like a turtle's shell—without it you die." The young man let out a long breath, saying, "Who knew that guy would scam me, give me not a penny, and still beat me up."
"Call the police!"
The man glanced at Su Yun, his eyes filled with some resentment.
Zheng Ren shifted his right foot slightly back, pressing with his toes, guarding against the young man losing control and causing an accident.
"I reported it, but later my girlfriend found out. She went to the branch bureau to clarify the situation and then went straight back to her hometown." The young man said, "They have money; just hiring a lawyer to sue is more than I can afford."
Su Yun let out a deep sigh, patted the man's shoulder, and said: "Don't worry too much, it's fine, it's fine."
"No money for treatment—I only now understand what it means for a penny to stymie a hero." The young man sighed, "Just now I thought, I might as well be dead. Living like this is really pointless."
"Don't think like that, it's trivial. Speaking of which, being unable to cope over such a small matter—aren't you embarrassed?" Su Yun asked.
"Huh?" The patient frowned at Su Yun.
"Is it because you don't have enough money for the surgery?" Su Yun asked.
The patient hesitated a bit, then nodded slightly with some doubt.
"We'll do a surgery live broadcast—don't move yet; with you like this, I could take on eight of you alone." Su Yun smiled: "It's just doctors watching, privacy protected, medical fees waived, and after three months you'll still get Hundreds of Thousands of Yuan."
Su Yun saw the man's eyes shift slightly and immediately said: "Don't damn daydream, you can't treat the surgery live broadcast as an ATM. Just this once, so you don't find it impossible to go on."
"What format? Not those current livestreams, right? You're like those female streamers—I'm just a gimmick." Although Su Yun had dissuaded him from thinking of Xinglin Yuan as an ATM, he was still interested in free medical fees, so he inquired.
"It's just performing surgery on special cases so other doctors can watch; later, when they encounter similar situations, they'll have experience." Su Yun said, "It's a platform for doctors to exchange; your name and actual condition won't appear. If you're still worried, you can have the company note below that all image materials are prohibited from being reprinted."
"What if someone violates the rules?"
"Don't worry, doctors are all damn cowards; following the rules, few would break them. Moreover, studious doctors are the biggest cowards—Xinglin Yuan could drag them through a lawsuit to death." Su Yun said from the patient's perspective.
Zheng Ren had no comment on Su Yun's evaluation.
"This guy's been complaining a lot lately; I don't know why."
"You could call this lucky—a minor surgery would fix it." Seeing the man waver, Su Yun grinned and patted his shoulder: "Things like steel wire balls, cacti, screwdrivers, electric fans are weak as hell; lately magic attacks are the trend."
"Uh..."
"It's called 'Happy Fire'—once you see it you'll know this shouldn't be done." Su Yun said, "What 'gift the rivers and mountains'—if someone could gift you the rivers and mountains, you'd also have to be able to find them. Emmanuel Mark Long, born in 1977, marrying Brigitte at 30 while she was 54 truly gifted the rivers and mountains—you… never mind, I'm going off track."
"Cut the nonsense, hurry up and finish the admission procedures." Zheng Ren reminded, "The nail is still in the urethra; if not dealt with immediately, there could be other complications."
"You're not joking, are you?" Xue Chu asked doubtfully.
"No, if you agree, a lawyer will come talk to you right away. When you see the lawyer, you can ask any questions you have." Su Yun smiled.
After thinking, and glancing at a few people's badges, Xue Chu still didn't believe it, and said softly: "I still have some savings; enough to cover the hospitalization fees."
"Then hurry up." Zheng Ren said, "Problems always need to be solved; the nail won't just disappear."
That's exactly what he said; Xue Chu nodded, his stomach bloated uncomfortably, he simply voiced his inner thoughts, and his mood seemed to improve a bit.
"Yu Zong, take him and hurry to complete the admission procedures; when it's time for surgery, call me." Zheng Ren said.
"Okay."
