Chapter 2970: 2770 Rich Imagination

~7 min read 1,207 words

"What is Liang Boshi doing?" Zheng Ren asked.

"He's probably writing a report." Su Yun said, "By rights he should have left work already."

"Is his mother better?"

"Go ask him yourself when you meet, why do you have so many things?"

Zheng Ren took out his phone to contact Yi Ren; although she had already eaten with Chang Yue, she had no objection to having more skewers. Having eaten once, you can eat again—it's no problem.

Arriving at 912, he went straight to the CT.

The lights were on in the film-reading room; Liang Boshi sat before the viewer, intently examining a chest CT.

"Little Liang, what are you staring at so intently?" Su Yun called out from afar.

"Today I have a few questionable films; I'll just glance at them." Seeing Zheng Ren and Su Yun walk in, Liang Boshi immediately stood up, smiling, and said: "Tomorrow the director will read the films; I need to screen out the questionable ones."

"You're about to leave and still so diligent—if you have any doubts, I'll take a look." Su Yun glanced, then smiled and said: "Esophageal cancer, this..."

He had only spoken half a sentence when Su Yun stopped. The boss was nearby, so he didn't dare speak recklessly. If there was something wrong, the boss's eyes were sharp; he wouldn't show any leniency, and would surely embarrass him.

"It doesn't look like esophageal cancer."

Sure enough, Zheng Ren's words followed shortly after.

Su Yun pursed her lips and smiled, saying, "Just saying, I'll take a look."

Saying that, he bent over and leaned on the table to look at the film.

The narrowing of the upper esophagus is fairly obvious; the patient should have progressive dysphagia. A soft-tissue density shadow appears in the narrowed area; normally this would be the location of a tumor mass.

The film looks quite typical; even a casual glance by Su Yun led her to think it was esophageal cancer.

But upon careful examination, there is an abnormality.

"The patient's chart." Su Yun shoved Liang Boshi out of his seat and sat directly in his place.

Liang Boshi opened the work number, and Su Yun, familiar with the process, began searching for the patient's outpatient record.

The patient is a 45-year-old woman who has intermittently experienced difficulty swallowing solid foods over the past year. She denies reflux, chest pain, heartburn, vomiting, or allergy history, has no weight loss, and denies any other medical history.

Routine outpatient blood tests are all normal, ECG is normal, X-ray is normal.

"He should have had an upper GI barium study or gastroscopy, right?" Su Yun said. "Maybe the report hasn't come back yet?"

"Possible." Zheng Ren said. "But the film does look a bit odd."

Saying that, he pointed his finger at the film on the viewer, about to speak, but Su Yun slapped his hand on the back of his hand.

"Huh?" Zheng Ren blinked.

"Wait a moment." Su Yun said bluntly, "Little Liang, what are you considering for this patient?"

"I don't think it's a malignant tumor; the mediastinal lymph nodes aren't enlarged. Given such a large tumor, the lymph nodes should definitely react," Liang Boshi said.

It's obvious he's studied this for a long time; what he just said is especially certain.

"I didn't ask you that—what problem are you considering?" Su Yun continued to press.

"Um..." Liang Boshi hesitated; although he had a guess in mind, he didn't dare speak casually. In front of Boss Zheng, who would dare talk nonsense?

"Just say something casually—you're about to leave anyway, let's see your level." Su Yun said without restraint, "Don't come back home and be bullied for being inadequate, unable to speak up; I'm mainly worried you'll embarrass our 912."

"Um... Yun Ge'er, I think it's not something growing inside the esophagus, but rather a soft-tissue shadow from outside." Liang Boshi paused, then finally voiced his guess.

"Is that right then? We can't let 912 lose face." Su Yun said, "Looking at it, it really isn't, right, boss?"

"Mm, not." Zheng Ren said firmly, "From the image density, the esophageal mucosa should be intact. Look up the upper GI barium or gastroscopy report, if there is one."

"I didn't ask you that—what do you think the external soft-tissue image is?" Su Yun asked.

"Looking at the density..." Zheng Ren hesitated, something he rarely does.

Regarding the image and reading films, Su Yun knew exactly how strong their boss was. He turned his head in surprise, looking at Zheng Ren's eyes.

"I feel like it looks like a blood vessel," Zheng Ren said doubtfully.

"..." Su Yun shrugged, "Boss, your imagination is too strong."

There are no major blood vessels here; that's normal anatomy. No wonder the boss hesitated a moment—Su Yun said that, then immediately began searching for the report.

But the other test reports aren't back yet; probably the outpatient doctor ordered a gastroscopy, which requires fasting before the procedure, unlike a simple chest CT.

"Here, the density is wrong." Zheng Ren pointed to a spot on the film and said, "It's definitely not a tumor; saying it's fat isn't right either—fat density is relatively more uniform. After thinking it over, I feel the possibility of a blood vessel is greater; this patient needs a contrast-enhanced CT to see it."

He had almost been talking to himself up to this point; then Zheng Ren realized, and his voice became much more resolute afterward.

"No need to check the upper GI barium or gastroscopy—just do the enhancement."

"A blood vessel? You suspect an abnormality of the aortic arch vessel, with proliferating vessels exerting external pressure on the esophagus causing dysphagia?" Su Yun asked, looking at the film.

"Possible." Zheng Ren said vaguely.

Liang Boshi smiled, noted down what Zheng Ren had said, and clipped it into the folder.

"Are you afraid you'll forget?"

"Yeah, Yun Ge'er, you're not exactly young anymore." Liang Boshi laughed.

"How old are you, anyway?" Su Yun said disdainfully, "How's your doctoral thesis coming along?"

"I have one SCI paper; a low impact factor doesn't matter—it's enough to graduate." Liang Boshi said easily.

"Have you decided about going back to your hometown?"

"Mm." Liang Boshi nodded quickly and said, "I feel sorry for letting Director Chu down."

"You're the one who should feel sorry." Su Yun said.

"..." Liang Boshi sighed but said nothing.

"There's nothing to feel sorry about; going back is fine—your hometown won't be as busy as the capital." Zheng Ren laughed.

"Mm, I'm going back to a second-tier county hospital in my hometown; the former director is already 55." Liang Boshi laughed.

"You're getting ready to go back and take over, huh?"

"Whether I take over or not doesn't matter much." Liang Boshi also knew Yun Ge'er was joking; he explained, "It's just that my parents aren't very old, but their health is average, and I'm still an only child—going back makes it easier to care for them."

"By the way, how is your mother's condition? Let's see when you go back." Zheng Ren asked.

"It's already healed." Liang Boshi tidied up the films and said politely, "Zheng Lao Ban, Yun Ge'er, if this patient needs a follow-up examination, I'll let you know."
