Chapter 776: 764 The Tap-Tap Examination

~7 min read 1,313 words

"Director Qi, Greeting." Su Yun and Han Tianjiao stood at attention simultaneously, giving a respectful greeting.

"Xiao Han, who is in there doing?" Director Qi glanced at Su Yun, saw he didn't know him, also didn't bother with him, and directly asked Han Tianjiao.

"He is Doctor Su's Boss, came to do a B-ultrasound for an acquaintance." Han Tianjiao said.

Bringing someone to see a doctor is the most common thing in the Hospital. If it's daytime, one would still consider other patients' feelings; not cutting in line is already quite conscientious.

In the Evening, with no patients waiting in line, one just uses the machine briefly. If it's a finicky director, they would repeatedly emphasize the cost issue to show off their authority. But Director Qi is clearly not such a person; he fundamentally doesn't care about such things.

Director Qi cares about the cholesterol granuloma of the chest.

This diagnosis of cholesterol granuloma is not made lightly. Because B-ultrasound struggles to distinguish between benign and malignant adenomas and granulomas.

The best approach is to send for a pathological biopsy, rather than simply concluding it's a chest cholesterol granuloma based solely on B-ultrasound.

This is simply too unrigorous.

"Which department is it from?" Director Qi asked.

"Intervention Department." Su Yun gave a slight bow; the usual sharp, sarcastic smile on his face disappeared, replaced by a gentle and modest expression.

Director Qi's first impression of Su Yun was still good, especially this attitude, which made it impossible to dislike him.

"Intervention Department? Under Director Kong? Or has Lao Kong returned?" Director Qi was full of question marks.

"Not Director Kong, but Zheng Ren, Zheng Lao Ban." Su Yun smiled, appearing gentle but actually quite firm.

Director Qi felt something was off, frowned and asked: "Zheng Lao Ban... huh? Is that the Nobel Prize candidate Lao Kong mentioned?"

"Yes." Su Yun said, his smile unchanged.

As they were speaking, Zheng Ren came out from inside, walking and saying, "It's a cholesterol granuloma, but I suggest we still do a pathological needle biopsy first, then wait for the pathology results; if you want to do surgery, we can do it in the outpatient clinic. If you don't want to, that's fine too."

"Zheng Lao Ban?" Director Qi looked at Zheng Ren's appearance, somewhat unable to believe it, and asked tentatively.

"You are...?" Zheng Ren immediately stopped, his first impression being Director Qi.

"This is the Director Qi of the Ultrasound Room." Su Yun introduced again: "This is my boss, Zheng Ren."

"Zheng Lao Ban, I've long heard your great name; Lao Kong has almost talked my ear off into a callus." Director Qi smiled and extended his hand.

Zheng Ren quickly extended both hands and shook hands with Director Qi.

"Too much praise, too much praise." Zheng Ren quickly said.

Zhou Jinxi and Wu Xiaomei weaved through the crowd; their protruding front and curvy rear figures became the biggest obstacle at the moment.

Director Qi made way, with a few people following behind him; Director Qi didn't rush in, but looked at Zheng Ren and asked: "Zheng Lao Ban, did you just use B-ultrasound to conclude it's a chest cholesterol granuloma? Is the morphology obvious?"

Upon hearing this question... Zheng Ren sensed a hint of killing intent.

Relying solely on B-ultrasound, Zheng Ren could only be 60% certain in his judgment. However, Zheng Ren had acquired a new, unknown ability; while performing B-ultrasound, he simultaneously reconstructed the image into raw data in his mind and then redrew it. However, this ability seemed quite rudimentary, so Zheng Ren dared not be certain.

Nevertheless, cross-referencing made it much more certain than a plain B-ultrasound diagnosis.

Various conventional imaging examinations each have their own characteristics.

X-rays are highly penetrating radiation, able to penetrate the human body.

The human body is like a slice of bread or a piece of cotton; you can't see the internal fiber texture, but pressing it flat makes it clearer. The biggest drawback of X-rays is that images from deep and superficial tissues overlap and obscure each other, sometimes requiring multiple shots from different angles.

CT is computerized tomographic imaging; simply put, it's like slicing a loaf of bread.

B-ultrasound examination uses the principle of ultrasound waves generating echoes to perform the check.

Ultrasound can propagate in a certain direction and penetrate objects; when it encounters an obstacle, it produces an echo. People collect this echo via instruments and display it on a screen, which can be used to understand an object's internal structure and assist in diagnosis.

It's like when picking a watermelon, you tap it beforehand and listen to the sound.

And Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is like shaking it and then looking. (Note 1)

Each has its own advantages; one cannot say Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is necessarily better than CT. Merely, the earliest X-ray films have gradually exited the historical stage, with only extremely few conditions still needing X-rays for judgment.

After Zheng Ren obtained the B-ultrasound image data and restored it, he discovered he could outline the CT image.

But this is utterly useless.

Breast CT? There's simply no such examination; as for why it doesn't exist, one could talk for days without finishing.

Finally, Zheng Ren converted the image data into breast MR; although somewhat blurry, this barely yielded the final conclusion.

Breast Nuclear Magnetic Resonance has only entered clinical practice for less than ten years; Zheng Ren has never seen it in person. He only saw related materials in the System Library.

Zheng Ren was also amazed that he could roughly sketch the breast MR image. But who cares? As long as the diagnosis is clear, it's good.

And the question Director Qi asked, while sounding like a discussion, was actually him digging a huge pit.

Zheng Ren thought it over, feeling the matter hard to sum up, and smiled: "Director Qi, you first examine the patient; after you're busy, I'll report to you."

His words were very courteous; Director Qi was slightly taken aback, and then his gaze toward Zheng Ren also changed somewhat.

Zheng Ren and Su Yun came out, brushing past the patient and the patient's family.

The patient was a little boy, about ten years old; his mother led his hand into the Ultrasound Room.

Zheng Ren saw the reddish background and diagnosis on the System Panel, feeling somewhat down. At such a young age, already having late-stage tumor, it truly evokes a hint of sigh.

After coming out, Zheng Ren and Wu Xiaomei said: "You go back first; it's best not to eat or drink tomorrow morning. The preoperative check, I see you've already done it in Modu; tomorrow we'll find an opportunity to do a pathological needle biopsy. As for whether to remove or not, it depends on your own thoughts."

Wu Xiaomei was in a dazed state; Doctor Zheng's words sounded increasingly true.

But, such a wonderful thing—shouldn't it merely be imagined? Could it really be like this?

"Zheng"

"Little Sis, the boss said it, just follow what the boss says and you'll be right." Su Yun said, "If there's a problem, tomorrow we'll do a pathology, and the truth will be clear. You keep asking back and forth here, and in the end you'll still be confused."

Zheng Ren bumped Su Yun, Chang Yue glared at him, and Su Yun pouted.

He and Wu Xiaomei actually have no relation, unlike Zheng Ren, who at the time performed a hernia repair surgery on Wu Xiaomei's father, which counts as a doctor-patient family relationship.

But he's right; some things, no matter how many times you say them, ultimately aren't as accurate as the gold standard of pathology testing.
