Chapter 130: A Slap for the Scumbag, a Slap for the Bitch
Chloe Reed clutched her phone tightly.
"Eighteen million!"
The moment the call ended, the auctioneer spoke again.
Chloe Reed’s eyes were red. She raised her paddle again.
But she already knew how this would end.
Sunny Reed wanted them.
And twenty million was nothing to Walker Grant. He would grant Sunny Reed’s wish.
As for her?
Chloe Reed closed her eyes in resignation.
When the price hit twenty million, her hand went limp, and the bidding paddle slipped from her grasp.
She had failed to get the earrings for her grandmother.
Her grandmother was always thinking about her grandfather, always missing him, staring blankly at the earrings in the photograph.
She longed for those beautiful days gone by.
’But I’m so useless. I can’t even manage something this small.’
Iris Yates wrapped an arm around her shoulder, looking at her with great sympathy. "Chloe, don’t be sad. We won’t be sad. Let’s go take them back. What right does Walker Grant have to use your marital assets to buy gifts for another woman? That bitch has no shame, so you don’t need to be reasonable with her."
The light returned to Chloe Reed’s eyes. "You’re right."
She shot to her feet and marched straight backstage.
Iris Yates followed behind, cheering her on the whole way.
Backstage, a staff member was already handing the earrings over to Sunny Reed. Walker Grant stood a short distance away, talking on his phone.
Beaming, Sunny Reed cradled the box and walked up to him. "Walker, thank you for making my wish come true."
Walker Grant gave her a cool glance and said, "We’re even now."
Sunny Reed’s expression stiffened, but she said, "Walker, why are you still dwelling on what happened back then? I never thought about you repaying me for anything."
"I don’t like being indebted to people," Walker Grant said, then hung up the phone.
Just then, a figure strode over. Before anyone could react, the crisp sound of a slap echoed through the air.
"Ah!"
Sunny Reed cried out in pain, stumbling back a few steps from the force of the blow.
Walker Grant caught her arm just in time to keep her from falling. He turned to face the newcomer, his sharp, handsome brows instantly furrowing.
"Chloe, what scene are you making now?!"
One slap wasn’t enough to vent her anger. Chloe Reed raised her hand to strike again.
But Walker Grant stopped her just in time.
"Chloe, stop this!"
Chloe Reed’s clear eyes were filled with a cold light. She kept them fixed on Sunny Reed, but then, with her other hand, she unexpectedly slapped Walker Grant across the face.
This time, everyone was stunned.
What a classic misdirection!
Chloe Reed shook her stinging hand and sneered, "Was that fun?"
Walker Grant pushed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, his dark, phoenix-like eyes watching her grimly. "You just had to come and cause trouble, didn’t you?"
But Chloe Reed just lifted her chin and said, "The two of you, a scumbag and a bitch, team up to bully me, and I’m not allowed to bully you back?"
She glanced at the box in Sunny Reed’s arms and reached out to snatch it.
But Sunny Reed held on to it for dear life.
"Sister, you can hit me, you can curse me, but I can’t give you this. It’s too important to me!" Sunny Reed protected the box desperately, the five-fingered handprint on her cheek growing more and more distinct.
Walker Grant pushed Chloe Reed away, his eyes dark as he stared at her. "What the hell do you think you’re doing?!"
"Ooh, look at the big, impressive Mr. Grant! What’s the meaning of this? Are you going to lay a hand on your own wife for some cheap bitch? Have you forgotten that the person on the marriage certificate with you is named Chloe Reed? If you’re so protective of this bitch, why are you shamelessly refusing to get a divorce? You want to have your cake and eat it too? In your dreams!"
