Chapter 132: Want to Call It Quits? No Way
"Sister, I’ve always wanted these earrings. I can’t just give them to you because you made up some random excuse," Sunny Reed said, enduring the pain and staring right at her.
Chloe Reed was so furious her eyes were red.
She suddenly grabbed Sunny Reed’s hair, holding her in place, and snatched the box from her!
"Give it back!"
Seeing this, Sunny Reed cried out, but Iris Yates shoved her aside.
"What do you mean, ’give it back’?! Didn’t Walker Grant pay for this? That’s their joint marital property. What right do you have to demand it?" As Iris Yates shoved her, she didn’t forget to land another slap on her face.
Sunny Reed was a complete mess. Her hair was disheveled and her cheeks were red and swollen. Any passerby would have assumed she was the one being bullied.
She burst into tears. "Sister, I’m begging you, please give them to me. These earrings are so important to me. They were my grandfather’s—a lost heirloom. Now that I’ve finally found them, I just want to fulfill his last wish."
Chloe Reed opened the box and glanced inside. The sapphire earrings lay nestled within. She closed the lid without giving either of them a second look and walked away.
Iris Yates immediately followed.
"Chloe Reed!"
Sunny Reed was distraught. She wanted to chase after them, but if she went out looking like this, people would only laugh at her.
She looked helplessly at Walker Grant.
"Walker, what should I do? My grandfather’s heirloom... I finally managed to find it..."
Walker Grant’s brows were tightly knit as he watched the scene unfold. A storm of inscrutable emotions churned in his eyes.
After a long moment, he finally said, "I’m sorry. I’ll find another way to make it up to you."
Sunny Reed hung her head, crying, but a cunning glint flashed in her eyes.
’Call it even?’
’Not a chance!’
...
Once in the car, Chloe Reed let out a long breath.
Iris Yates couldn’t help but say, "That felt so good! We got the earrings back, and that bitch got what was coming to her. I don’t get it, though. Why would she claim the earrings were her grandfather’s? They were obviously your grandmother’s!"
Chloe quietly gazed at the earrings in the box, a complex, indescribable feeling welling up inside her.
She put the box away. "I don’t know either, and I don’t care anymore. My grandmother always wanted them back. I’ll take them to her on my next day off."
"Yeah, good idea."
The two went to get something to eat, but to their surprise, they ran into them again at the restaurant.
Sunny Reed’s eyes were red and swollen from crying. Walker Grant sat across from her, his expression indifferent as he said something.
"Ugh, talk about bad luck. Let’s go," Iris said, taking Chloe’s arm to turn away.
But Chloe said, "Why should we leave? I’m eating here."
She pushed the door open and walked in, speaking to a server in a voice just loud enough for the couple at the other table to hear.
Walker Grant’s head snapped up, his dark eyes locking onto her face.
Chloe’s lips curved into a provocative smirk before she followed the server to a private room.
Iris, for her part, shot them the middle finger and muttered something that was clearly not a compliment.
Seeing this, Sunny Reed bit her lip. "Walker, I don’t know why Chloe always misunderstands me like this. I’ve never done anything to hurt her."
But Walker Grant just said, "You go ahead and eat."
Then he got up and walked in the direction they had disappeared.
Chloe went to the restroom. When she came out, she saw Walker Grant standing nearby. He stood tall and straight, his entire presence radiating a sharp intensity.
Hearing her approach, he turned to look.
