Chapter 262: What Is Her Relationship with That Person?

~4 min read 613 words

Walker Grant’s expression was grim. He had contacted Doctor William and finalized the surgical plan, yet now, Doctor William had taken it upon himself to change it.

He asked in a low voice, "Who contacted you?"

Doctor William was horrified. ’This man is truly perceptive.’

But he couldn’t say.

He said, "I’m heading into the operating room. If you have any questions, we can talk after the surgery."

He hung up abruptly.

A thoughtful look appeared in Walker Grant’s long, dark eyes. He then called Dylan Finch in.

"Mr. Grant, you were looking for me?" Dylan Finch asked, clearly puzzled.

Walker Grant said calmly, "Go find out who contacted William in the past two days, and what they talked about."

"Yes," Dylan Finch replied.

Though confused, he did as he was told.

Walker Grant stood up and went straight to the hospital.

Outside the operating room, Chloe Reed sat on a chair, her anxious gaze darting toward the doors every so often.

Walker Grant walked over, sat down beside her, and asked, "Chloe, what did you do?"

Chloe Reed’s back went rigid. She looked at him. "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."

"I gave Doctor William a lot of money. He shouldn’t have betrayed me." A probing look filled Walker Grant’s eyes. "Chloe, who helped you?"

Chloe Reed had been wondering about that herself, but now, she suddenly recalled what Miles Hawthorne had said.

’Could he have done it?’

’But how?’

’How could he get past Walker Grant and convince Doctor William to perform the surgery ahead of schedule?’

Chloe Reed’s eyes flickered for just a moment before she said, "I don’t know."

Her tone was icy. Now that she was free from his coercion and her grandmother was safely in surgery, she had no reason to be pleasant to him.

’And she wasn’t going to drop the lawsuit, either.’

Walker Grant didn’t press the issue. He simply sat beside her, periodically handling urgent documents on his phone.

The minutes ticked by.

The surgery lasted for eight hours.

It was late at night when the light above the operating room door finally went out.

The doors opened and Doctor William emerged, his face etched with exhaustion.

Chloe Reed rushed forward, asking with immense tension, "Doctor, how did it go?"

Doctor William smiled. "The surgery was a success. If she rests well after the operation, your grandmother will live a long and healthy life."

The weight on Chloe Reed’s heart finally lifted.

Chloe Reed closed her eyes and let out a long, shaky breath.

’Grandma’s okay!’

’This is wonderful!’

"Thank you. Thank you so, so much," Chloe Reed said, looking at Doctor William with immense gratitude.

Doctor William’s expression as he looked at her grew more complex, more probing. He suddenly asked, "Mrs. Grant, I don’t believe I know your first name."

"My name is Chloe Reed," she replied.

A flicker of confusion crossed Doctor William’s eyes. ’What an unfamiliar name. And yet, the person who gave me my orders said I absolutely had to grant her every request.’

’What’s her relationship with him?’

Suddenly aware of a scrutinizing gaze, Doctor William quickly composed himself and said, "I’m exhausted. I’m heading home. We can talk about gratitude later."

"Okay."

Chloe Reed didn’t notice the shift in his expression. Her attention was on her grandmother, who was being wheeled out.

The old woman was still unconscious. Her head was wrapped in white gauze, and her breathing was slow and steady.

Back in the hospital room, after the nurse had left, Chloe Reed dialed Miles Hawthorne’s number.

"Hello. Is the surgery over?" Miles Hawthorne’s voice was cheerful, as if he’d been expecting her call.
