Chapter 264: You’re So Rich
Walker Grant’s brow smoothed out a little, and his tone softened. "Noah, what’s wrong?"
"Uncle, are you coming home?"
Noah’s voice was childish, his words coming out in fits and starts.
"I miss you, Uncle."
But Walker Grant said, "I’m not coming back tonight. It’s late. You need to go to bed early and listen to your grandma and your mom."
"But I miss you, Uncle..." Noah was insistent. "Uncle, please come back and stay with me?"
"No."
Walker Grant rejected him without hesitation. "You have Great-Grandma, Grandma, and your mom with you, but I’m with your auntie—"
Noah fell silent.
After a moment, there was some rustling on the other end of the line, followed by Judith Pierce’s exasperated voice. "Noah misses you a lot. You haven’t been back in days, and he just wants to see you."
Walker Grant raised an eyebrow slightly. "Mom, does he really miss me, or are you just tired of looking after him?"
"What nonsense are you talking about!" Judith Pierce said, getting angry. "He’s my grandson. How could I possibly not want to look after him?"
"Then why did you let him use your phone to call me?" Walker Grant scoffed. "Mom, if you miss Dad and want to go see him, just say so."
"You little brat."
Judith Pierce snapped irritably, "How are you in the mood to joke around? Your own wife doesn’t even want you anymore!"
With that, she hung up the phone.
Walker Grant: "..."
His expression turned cold. He put his phone away, and when he looked up, his eyes met Chloe Reed’s, which were filled with deep disappointment.
He said flatly, "I’m not leaving."
"..."
Chloe Reed curled up on the small bed and fell asleep.
Walker Grant sat in the chair the whole time, his searching gaze repeatedly falling upon her. But she was too exhausted to notice.
「The next day」
Her grandmother woke up. But having just undergone surgery for a brain tumor, her speech was slurred and she was only semi-conscious.
Chloe Reed leaned close to her ear and said, "Grandma, you’re going to be okay now. Get some rest. I’ll take care of you."
Her grandmother blinked and quickly fell asleep again.
Chloe Reed cared for her grandmother in the hospital for three days. On the fourth day, Kyle Coleman arrived, gift in hand.
Chloe Reed was very surprised to see him.
"Mr. Coleman, what are you doing here?"
Kyle Coleman said, "I came to see your grandmother. How is she? Recovering well, I hope?"
"Yes, she’s getting better every day," Chloe Reed said with a nod.
Kyle Coleman asked, "So, when are you coming back to work? The producers have been hounding me."
He looked stressed enough to be pulling his hair out.
Chloe Reed said, "I still need to take care of my grandmother for a while longer..."
Kyle Coleman was flabbergasted. "You’re loaded. Can’t you just hire a few more caregivers?"
Sensing his desperation, Chloe Reed thought for a moment. "Alright, fine. I’ll come in to work tomorrow."
Kyle Coleman breathed a sigh of relief. "Great. I’ll be waiting for you."
After a few more brief words, Kyle Coleman left.
When she turned her head, she saw her grandmother watching her. She explained that things were just very busy at the company and that her work wasn’t done yet.
Her grandmother was now able to speak in simple phrases. "You’re... busy," she said. "Don’t... worry... ’bout me."
Chloe Reed said, "I’m going to hire three caregivers to look after you. If you feel uncomfortable at all, you just tell me when I get back."
"Okay."
Her grandmother didn’t refuse.
Chloe Reed went home to pack a few things and went to work the next day.
It was a long, hectic day. When she arrived at the hospital that evening after work, she was stunned to find Autumn Linton there.
The three caregivers were nowhere in sight. Chloe Reed immediately strode forward and demanded, "What are you doing here?!"
