Chapter 265: Paternity Test Results

~4 min read 642 words

Autumn Linton frowned slightly, her tone tinged with displeasure. "Chloe, what is this attitude? My mother is sick and in the hospital. Of course I’m going to be here to take care of her."

Chloe Reed stared at her in disbelief, amazed by her nerve.

’After saying all those awful things to Grandma, she still has the gall to show her face!’

’It’s just unbelievable!’

Chloe Reed’s expression grew cold. "Go home," she said. "You’re not needed here. I’ll take good care of my grandma."

But Autumn Linton shook her head. "I’m not leaving. I’m staying to take care of my mom."

She turned to the old woman. "Mom, how about I stay here with you?"

"Fine."

The old woman didn’t object.

Chloe Reed didn’t understand. Her elegant brows furrowed, but she wouldn’t interfere with her grandmother’s decision.

Charles Reed arrived just then. "Chloe," he said, "how could you not tell us something as major as your grandmother being hospitalized? You have no sense of what’s important."

Chloe Reed asked coolly, "Then how did you find out?"

Charles Reed snorted. "Sunny told us. She has a friend at your company. Your boss came to visit, right? She found out and told us right away. If it weren’t for her, we’d still be in the dark about your grandmother being hospitalized."

A wave of annoyance washed over Chloe Reed.

Autumn Linton turned to the old woman. "Mom, you haven’t met Sunny yet, have you? She’s the daughter Charles and I adopted. She’s so gentle and considerate, poised and very pretty. She’s quite concerned about you, but she was worried you might not like her, so she didn’t come."

The old woman looked at her and asked, "Since you already had Chloe, why adopt another daughter?"

Autumn Linton’s eyes flickered. "I just happened to see her, and my heart ached for her—such a little girl, all alone in an orphanage. So, I brought her home. I also thought she could be a companion for Chloe."

But the old woman pressed, "And did you ask for Chloe’s opinion?"

Autumn Linton said dismissively, "Adopting Sunny was a mutual decision between Charles and me. Chloe was just a child then; her opinion wasn’t important."

The old woman closed her eyes, looking exhausted.

Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s hands clenched into tight fists. ’If Grandma hadn’t agreed to let Autumn Linton stay, I would have thrown them all out right now!’

Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was a call from the testing center.

She stood up, stepped out of the room, and answered the call. "Hello?"

"Ms. Chloe Reed, the results of the maternity test you ordered are ready. If you’ll give me an address, I can have them delivered to you."

Chloe Reed agreed and gave the hospital’s address. She requested express delivery, cash on delivery, and told them she would be waiting outside.

Half an hour later, the package was in her hands.

Chloe Reed was nervous. She took a deep breath, then tore open the packaging. Flipping open the report, her eyes landed on the words: "Maternity Probability: 99.99%." The last glimmer of hope in her eyes died.

She and Autumn Linton were, in fact, mother and daughter.

She clutched the test results tightly, finding the whole situation utterly laughable.

She had so desperately hoped they weren’t mother and daughter. What a pity.

She ripped the report to shreds and threw it into the trash.

’Since I am a daughter of the Reed family, then everything that belongs to the Reed family will be mine. I will never allow Charles Reed and Autumn Linton to give what is rightfully mine to Sunny Reed!’

Returning to the hospital room, Chloe Reed’s expression was placid. She looked at Charles Reed and asked, "I heard you opened a company for Sunny Reed?"
