Chapter 290: The Court Hearing is in 3 Days
Madam Grant’s face was grim, her voice strained. Bodyguards had already approached her, ready to force her into the car.
Her protests and tears were useless.
She was suddenly filled with regret.
’I should never have agreed to let Walker Grant and Chloe Reed marry in the first place.’
’Otherwise, the Grant family wouldn’t have ended up like this.’
’It’s all that little bitch Chloe Reed’s fault!’
Madam Grant was forced into the car and sent out of the country.
Judith Pierce called Walker Grant shortly after. Her tone was somber. "Walker, don’t you think you’re being a little too harsh on your grandmother?"
Walker Grant’s tone was cold. "Then maybe she should reflect on why she targeted Chloe and used such despicable tactics against her."
Judith Pierce frowned. After a long moment, she said, "But Chloe is fine..."
"Mom, you’d better not say things like that." Walker Grant’s voice grew even colder. "You wouldn’t want to go and keep my grandmother company, would you?"
Judith Pierce: "..."
’He’s an absolute bastard.’
She was silent for a good while before suddenly speaking. "You’re so ruthless toward your own grandmother, so why can’t you bring yourself to be harsh with your sister-in-law? Walker, tell me the truth. Are you really in love with her?"
"She saved my life," Walker Grant said, his tone tinged with a hint of resignation. "If it weren’t for her, I would have died in that earthquake years ago."
Judith Pierce said no more.
...
Chloe Reed was busy until noon. When she stepped out of the recording studio, she saw Dylan Finch standing not far away, looking in her direction with a smile.
Her expression cooled. "Do you need something?"
Dylan Finch replied, "Mr. Grant would like to invite you to lunch. He also wants to discuss the matter concerning the family estate."
Chloe Reed placed the script on her desk and asked, "Has Madam Grant been sent away?"
"Yes," Dylan Finch nodded.
"Oh, I see." Chloe Reed gave a slight nod. "Then lunch won’t be necessary."
Dylan Finch said, "Understood. I’ll take my leave, then. Please let me know if there’s anything you need, Madam."
"Mm."
Chloe Reed’s expression remained impassive throughout.
’I just wonder when the court date is,’ she thought.
Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was a call from Miles Hawthorne.
"Hello? I was just thinking about you," Chloe Reed said with a smile as she answered.
"Huh?" Miles Hawthorne froze for a second. "Thinking of me?"
"I was going to ask you when the court date is. Don’t get the wrong idea," Chloe Reed explained hastily.
Miles Hawthorne laughed. "You scared me for a second. I thought you’d already moved on and fallen for me."
He added, half-jokingly, "Not that it’s out of the question, you know. I’m no worse than Walker Grant."
Chloe Reed played along. "Alright. Once I’m divorced, I’ll consider it."
Miles Hawthorne coughed abruptly, clearly not expecting that response. He sounded a bit flustered as he quickly changed the subject. "Right... anyway... I was calling to tell you that the hearing is in three days."
Chloe Reed’s eyes lit up, and a smile unconsciously spread across her face. "Great, I understand. You’ve really been a huge help this time."
"Hold on, wait until we’ve won the case," Miles Hawthorne cut in. "It’s too early for thanks."
"Alright, we’ll celebrate after we win, then." Chloe Reed smiled, clearly in high spirits.
Her work at the studio would be wrapping up in about a week, and then she could focus on taking care of her grandmother and building her own career.
