Chapter 300: Go Prepare the Divorce Agreement

~4 min read 603 words

When Judith Pierce learned that Walker had been in an accident, she nearly fainted.

She had already experienced the pain of losing a son once. When the plane Julian Grant was on crashed, she was in so much agony she could barely breathe.

For a long time after, she was unable to move on from that heart-wrenching grief.

She later became a doctor for an international aid organization. After witnessing so much life and death, she gradually began to overcome her suffering.

But when she learned about Walker’s accident, that unbearable, soul-crushing agony enveloped her once more.

He was the only son she had left.

’Absolutely nothing can happen to him!’

She rushed to the hospital. On the way, she only had time to question the bodyguard, from whom she learned that the incident happened while Walker was with Chloe Reed.

When she saw Dylan Finch, she tried to get a clear explanation, but he only said Walker was fine and refused to tell her what had happened.

Judith Pierce was overcome with worry. Now, seeing Chloe Reed, she was desperate to know what had happened.

Chloe Reed’s hand ached from the heavy force of Judith’s grip.

She pursed her lips lightly and lowered her gaze, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes.

"Mom, what happened was..."

"Madam, you’re here."

But just then, Dylan Finch hurried over, cutting her off. "Would you like to go in and see him?"

Chloe Reed looked at him, her eyes filled with suspicion.

’Why isn’t he letting me speak?’

Dylan Finch said, "Ma’am, please go in and see him. Mr. Grant is out of danger."

But Judith Pierce cut in, "You’re not going anywhere! I still don’t know what happened!"

She turned to Chloe Reed. "Chloe, what exactly happened?"

Her grip on Chloe’s hand tightened, hurting more than before.

Chloe Reed let out a shaky breath. "He took a bullet for me."

"What...?"

Judith Pierce’s eyes flew wide in astonishment. "Guns? How can there be guns in Breyburn?"

Chloe shook her head. "I don’t know."

Judith Pierce swayed on her feet. Luckily, Dylan Finch was there to steady her, preventing a fall.

Her expression went vacant for a moment, then she fixed her gaze on Chloe. "So, it should have been you who got hurt, not my son."

Chloe’s brow furrowed slightly, but she didn’t offer a rebuttal.

"Who did you cross? For them to use a gun... My God, that’s terrifying!" The thought sent a chill down Judith’s spine. She had thought Breyburn was perfectly safe, but now it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.

Her gaze toward Chloe turned cold and distant. "You fix the messes you make. Don’t drag innocent people down with you!"

She paused, then added, "If the people who are after you know Walker exists, they won’t spare him. You two have to get a divorce!"

She turned to Dylan Finch and ordered, "Go prepare the divorce papers!"

Dylan Finch was stunned. "Madam, if Mr. Grant finds out about this..."

"Do as I say!" Judith Pierce’s voice was sharp and severe. "Do you want to watch me lose another son?!"

She practically screamed the last words.

Dylan Finch fell silent. He was just an assistant; he could only follow orders.

He shot Chloe a helpless glance before turning to leave.

Chloe stood rooted to the spot, her mind and heart in turmoil. From Judith Pierce’s perspective, her reaction was understandable.

But a wave of sorrow washed over her. She didn’t even know who wanted to kill her, yet it felt like she had become the root of all this misfortune...
