Chapter 129: As it turns out, I too am not a law‑abiding person!

~7 min read 1,367 words

Under the crowd's watchful eyes, Di Jun rarely dared to speak; he wanted to speed up his escape, but the crowd closely followed him.

Di Jun also didn't understand; although the reason was clearly unimportant, he found it hard to voice it, especially under everyone's scrutiny.

Among the four, Qi and Nüwa pursued him most tightly, like a badger that smells melon and can't resist eating it; only one step away, how could they let Di Jun get away?

Seeing he couldn't shake off the crowd's encirclement, Di Jun halted his escape light at the heavenly canopy separating the Primordial Wilderness from the starry sky, somewhat annoyed and angry, saying: "Alright, I admit, I don't know why, but upon first seeing them I felt some fondness, perhaps because our Great Dao resonates, or perhaps because we share such fortune; anyway I can't tell."

After saying that, Di Jun waited at the heavenly canopy for the crowd's teasing, feeling somewhat like giving up, as if he had abandoned his struggle.

Upon hearing this, the crowd felt a bit disappointed; they instantly turned into escape light and vanished, leaving Di Jun alone in disarray at the spot.

Watching the melon is always like this: when you don't know, you scratch your ears and cheeks, wanting to understand.

But if you actually understand, it becomes uninteresting, as if you're merely enjoying the process of chasing the melon.

As for the melon owner's condition, that's not so important, especially when the main character is extremely familiar; then it's even less so.

"What a pity, Di Jun actually gave in so quickly; I thought it could be more interesting, lasting a bit longer."

Qi felt somewhat disappointed.

Nüwa beside him nodded in agreement; Di Jun confessed so quickly, which dampened her enthusiasm considerably.

Fuxi and Taiyi, however, expressed no particular attitude; Fuxi wasn't especially concerned, just looking for some fun.

Taiyi, on the other hand, had never been interested; previously it was merely a venting of his inner vexation.

Only Qi and Nüwa were truly earnestly watching the melon; perhaps that's why their relationship is closer among the crowd.

Meanwhile, Fuxi fell back into the earlier problem, beginning to ponder whether he had missed something.

Until the crowd returned to Cloud Dream Marsh, Di Jun's whereabouts remained unknown.

Fuxi intended to find Di Jun to discuss what preparations could be made, but discovering he hadn't returned yet, he could only sink into contemplation alone.

When Di Jun returned to Cloud Dream Marsh, it was already late at night; although the crowd hadn't rested, they saw his mood had clearly calmed considerably, not knowing how long he had composed himself alone.

When Fuxi went to see him alone, Di Jun still felt a bit embarrassed, but when discussing matters he could only force himself to set aside those extraneous emotions.

"Qi's meaning is that we still have room to maneuver, yet we haven't discovered it?"

"But now the three clans dominate the world; aside from causing them trouble and guiding their conflict, how could we accumulate strength without drawing their notice?"

Di Jun frowned, and together with Fuxi they contemplated the crux: wanting to accumulate strength without stirring the three clans, this colossal beast—how arduous!

"Taking Cloud Dream Marsh as the base, expansion has already reached its limit; any more would touch the dragon clan's bottom line, surely provoking them."

"Besides Cloud Dream Marsh, we have nowhere else to accumulate strength; how can we talk about making full preparations?"

"Phoenix Perch Mountain has too few living beings; even if we included the entire surroundings of Mount Buzhou, the total would still fall short of Cloud Dream Marsh, let alone the whole Primordial Wilderness."

This is Di Jun's perplexity, and also where Fuxi's contemplation lies: to contend against the three clans, one must inevitably gather the fortune of all beings.

Yet gathering the fortune of all beings will inevitably draw the three clans' attention; facing their targeting, with our current scale we fundamentally lack the power to resist.

Fuxi chuckled wryly from the side:

"It seems we both have blind spots, merely obstructed by our cognition, unable to see them."

"This matter ultimately requires you to personally seek Qi and ask him for clarification."

Fuxi felt somewhat defeated; cultivating the art of heavenly secrets and deduction, yet a single leaf blocked his view, preventing him from seeing Mount Tai.

He knows his shortcoming: he can discern the essence of things from clues, but must first pay attention to the traces.

Originally, according to Fuxi's plan, he and Di Jun would continually sow discord among the three clans, widening their conflicts while relying on Cloud Dream Marsh to develop in seclusion. Yet now it seems still too conspicuous, and moreover they have missed some crucial factor that could substantially enhance their own strength.

Upon hearing this, Di Jun hesitated a moment, then said: "Qi's test has only just begun; if we go now, it would be improper, and besides it's late—going would make me seem impatient."

Fuxi thought it over, found it reasonable, and agreed:

"However, we must ultimately set a deadline—one eon as the limit; if truly no better method exists, then we will seek Qi's help."

"Alright, we'll take one eon as the deadline; should there be no better method by then, I will go to Qi."

Di Jun agreed.

For innate deities, an eon is not long; many things could have an answer in an instant, but if unnoticed, exhausting thought is not a solution.

In the Heart-Pond Pavilion, Qi kept placing pieces, playing against Nüwa.

"Have you truly decided to enter the world, to aid Di Jun and your elder brother?"

Nüwa's voice sounded; she was still having her thoughts tangled by this matter, and in the quiet of night she would inevitably recall what Qi had said before.

This made Nüwa feel greatly distressed: she did not want Qi to enter this murky pool, yet she hoped he could help Di Jun and Fuxi accomplish their great undertaking and thereby prove the Dao.

"You say, when will Di Jun come to see me?"

Qi's voice was calm; the chess pieces exuded Daoist resonance, crisscrossing the board, continually strangling Nüwa's great dragon.

Nüwa's mind was clearly not on the game, and Qi's words disturbed her, quickly putting her in a desperate situation.

Nüwa looked dejected and said:

"I don't know; I've never been able to guess their thoughts, and you know that too."

"You are ultimately not suited to ponder these; don't worry excessively—each has their own affinity, no need to force yourself."

Faced with Qi's reminder, Nüwa forced herself to stay alert, glanced at the board, swept her hand, dispelling all pieces, and said: "Today I have no heart for chess; this game doesn't count. After a few days, when my condition improves, we'll start over."

Having said that, she turned and left.

Nüwa, you feel Qi's words make some sense; she originally isn't good at these, there's no need to force herself.

Since they want to contend, let them contend; I only need to support them.

She also somewhat understood that these people's minds are far deeper than hers; as for those schemes and plots, it's better left to them.

Seeing Nüwa shirk, Qi didn't say much more, merely sitting quietly in the pavilion until dawn.

"The lotus clears the flower's shadow, striving to be a bright, pure world. Though knowing the storm approaches, I do not wish to speak of the Heart Pavilion."

Qi thought.

"As it turns out, I too am not a law‑abiding person!"

(Investiture of the Gods not the Primordial Wilderness) Investiture of the Gods world, great turmoil will arise.

One hundred years ago, the heavenly numbers changed; from then on, longevity was poisonous, and cultivation became calamity.

Refining essence to qi, the skin withered; refining qi to spirit, the flesh and blood rotted; refining spirit to return to void, the tendons and bones loosened; refining void to unite with Dao, the organs withered.

Three years before King Zhou ascended the throne, immortals emerged one after another, shocking the world.

Yang Ren stepped onto the immortal path, killing life to transfer calamity…
