Chapter 15

~8 min read 1,434 words

Although they kept delaying the beast tide's advance, the beast tide eventually arrived.

Looking at the boundless ferocious beasts outside, even with formations blocking them, everyone still felt great pressure.

At this moment, the Yunmeng Grand Formation activated, covering the entire Yunmeng Marsh; from the outside it looked merely like a huge mountain.

The vanguard of the beast tide could not be distinguished, as there was no climbing route, so the beast herds basically detoured on both sides.

Seeing this, some living beings could not help but say:

"We succeeded, we succeeded!"

Many Yunmeng Marsh beings wept with joy.

No one wanted to face such a massive beast tide.

The dust raised by the marching beast tide blotted out the sky and sun, and roars rose and fell one after another.

They advanced continuously for ten years, and both sides remained at peace.

Until a ferocious beast let out a roar representing a special command.

The advance of the beast tide came to a halt.

The peace of ten years was shattered in an instant.

The Yunmeng Marsh was too vast; they were unwilling to detour and prepared to forcefully break through the mountain illusory by the formation.

This battle was ultimately unavoidable!

Seeing this, Qi ordered the formation to change.

From the originally majestic mountain range, it instantly transformed into a misty, secret realm.

The beast tide fell into panic.

They found the change before them unbelievable, beyond their comprehension.

But as the special call sounded again, the beast tide grew calm.

Herd after herd began to surge into the secret realm.

"Convey my order: all Yunmeng tribes, in their respective territories, block the incoming foe!"

Qi issued the command.

"Fuxi shall hold the formation in my stead; Di Jun shall organize the tribes to slay the enemy."

"Nüwa shall manipulate the formation banner, dividing the ferocious beasts to make it easy to destroy them one by one."

"Taiyi, follow me in driving the ferocious beasts into the formation!"

All said in unison: "Good."

Fuxi manipulated the formation's changes, guiding the ferocious beasts to slaughter each other, or making them continually circle in one area.

Meanwhile, Nüwa drew upon the formation's power to alter the terrain, divide the ferocious beasts, or directly summon cloud energy to suppress and kill them on the spot.

And Di Jun, surveying the whole situation, guided the tribes to kill the enemy and mop up any that slipped through.

Qi and Taiyi then walked out of the formation, circled to the rear, and used the Chaos Bell and Tranquility Bell to disturb the ferocious beasts' emotions.

The use of spiritual treasures is not merely to unleash their power against foes; if that were all, they would not deserve to be called treasures.

In many specific situations, some minor functions can instead exert a tremendous effect.

However, in most cases, using spiritual treasures is basically to counter the opponent's spiritual treasures.

Consequently, most living beings know only that their power is great.

Just like the Tranquility Bell, its means against enemies is actually ordinary, with no special use, and its true purpose is not to engage the opponent in combat.

The Pure and Turbid Sound has many uses; directly attacking the enemy is the most inconspicuous.

Its greatest use is in cultivation, to clear away distracting thoughts and maintain one's state of mind.

Of course, conversely, it can also be used as now to stir others' emotions, which is the most reasonable application.

Spiritual treasures used purely against enemies are actually seldom needed most of the time.

The Chaos Bell's usage is even more varied: protecting the Dao against enemies, cultivation rites, suppressing qi fortune…

It can be called a perfect magic treasure.

Now, under the interference of the two, the beast herds surged into the formation as if gone mad.

The pressure on the three within the formation doubled, especially Fuxi, who hastily sent a message:

"That's enough; today is only the first day of the Grand Formation facing the enemy, just train the Yunmeng beings a bit—there's no need to exhaust all the tribes!"

Upon hearing this, Qi and Taiyi then ceased their efforts and returned to the formation.

Merely the ferocious beasts that rushed into the Grand Formation during this period numbered over thirty thousand.

Know that even the smallest ferocious beast is over a thousand zhang tall, and those of ten thousand zhang are not few.

The Grand Formation transformed, from its former misty, intertwined state into a barrier that prevents outside ferocious beasts from continuing to surge in.

Within the barrier, the ferocious beasts were divided among various marshes and lakes.

The fish that once swam in the water have now become carnivorous beasts, constantly attacking the underwater parts of the ferocious beasts.

Often one sees the lakes dyed blood-red, with clots of blood mist rising.

Some ferocious beasts' upper halves above water remain intact, while below water only skeletons remain!

A ten-thousand-zhang ferocious beast, constantly struggling in the water, turns its blood aura into a shield that protects it from harm.

From its mouth begins to condense divine power, light flashing, as if shooting out from underwater.

Instantly, the lake water began to boil, a huge explosion occurred, the water became turbid beyond measure, and the corpses of fish and beasts floated on the surface.

Yet the equally massive waves also overturned the ferocious beast, shattering its protective blood aura, causing it to fall into the water.

At the same time, the lake surface began to truly boil, with countless spirit fish and spirit beasts roaming the water, stirring up waves.

Visible to the naked eye, huge schools of fish tore at and devoured the ferocious beast's flesh and blood.

Like a gluttonous feast, in an instant the ferocious beast was left with only bones hard to swallow!

Ferocious beasts that consume spiritual essence can make progress, because these things are quickly transformed by them into blood qi, which is hidden in their flesh and blood.

Normally, relying on their strong bodies they would naturally not face such calamity, but now it is a battle for survival, like ants trying to overthrow an elephant.

Their usual accumulation will also become an opportunity for the fish and beasts in the lake.

Some ferocious beasts covered in scales move in water even more actively than swimming fish.

In Cloud Dream Marsh, a place rich in spiritual essence, all spiritual beings in the water, whether fish or beasts, are their food.

The spirit of a lake is completely devoured in a short moment.

From a height of thousands of feet, they grow to several times their size in a short time.

This is the great calamity!

Fortune and misfortune depend on each other; there is no absolute victor, but the victor's gain is absolutely great.

The five people watching this scene felt little; with the help of a formation, if these living beings fail to seize this opportunity, they will later be of no great use.

Whenever heaven and earth face a great calamity, fortune and misfortune depend on each other; although the great calamity brings destruction to heaven and earth.

But likewise, after it ends, the losing side becomes further nourishment for heaven and earth.

This is also why heaven and earth continually push the great calamity; the calamity drives the reshuffling of new and old forces.

This keeps the number of living beings in heaven and earth always at a reasonable level, allowing heaven and earth to bear it without becoming a stagnant pool.

All things drive the progress and change of world order, leaving room for advancement for the lower forms of life, so that there can be a continual influx of new lifeblood.

This is the fundamental reason for the world's continual progress.

If the great calamity were truly eliminated, then perhaps only then would heaven and earth face a true great disaster!

This is the primordial deities' understanding of the great calamity.

If one day there were no such calamity to cleanse living beings, then perhaps the primordial wilderness of heaven and earth would be dragged down by countless living beings.

Qi suddenly thought of the position of a sage, the mighty power to suppress everything.

If such an existence truly existed, could the primordial wilderness still advance, or would it gradually die out like a stagnant pool?

After all, a world without change has no future!
