Chapter 1729: Merfolk Taming Guide 01
Jin Chen returned to the System Space and gazed at the thing in his hand, lost in thought.
In the previous world, after many events, that string of agarwood Buddhist beads had been stolen several times, but eventually it still ended up back in their hands, and even Pei Yinnian found it unbelievable.
But Jin Chen never expected that this thing would actually follow him back into the space!
"Is this normal?" He casually rubbed the rainbow-white fur ball beside him.
"I don't think it's very normal."
Ling Gun Gun doubtfully stretched out a paw to poke at it, "But I really didn't sense any familiar aura on it; it probably isn't yours."
Jin Chen immediately felt unwell.
"You mean this string of beads came from another piece of agarwood?"
Ling Gun Gun: "......"
Danger!
It hurriedly scrambled onto Jin Chen's lap, "Don't talk nonsense, Host; I've never seen another piece of wood!"
"Maybe the boss knows; I'll take it to ask him."
Jin Chen slept in the space, and upon waking saw Ling Gun Gun curled beside the bed chewing jerky.
"How is it?" Jin Chen snatched a piece over to eat.
"Host, you're awake; the boss said he hasn't seen it either—maybe… it's just a coincidence?"
Really?
Jin Chen neither said he believed nor disbelieved, but he also didn't dwell on it, casually putting the beads away.

【Transferring to the next world, transfer successful!】
Blue Star, year 3024.
On Blue Star, various non-human high-intelligence beings gradually appeared, usually among animal species, with a few among plants.
Furthermore, once high-intelligence animals are born, they possess special racial talents, but correspondingly they also actively distance themselves from human-inhabited areas, as if simultaneously awakening some kind of taboo.
After scientific research, scientists at the state level of Blue Star confirmed from these high-intelligence animals' genes that they would not be harmful to humans.
But nearly ten years later, a mysterious outbreak emerged worldwide; scientists who had previously confirmed that high-intelligence animals were harmless overturned their statements, widely proclaiming that the appearance of high-intelligence animals meant humanity's destruction.
Using human self-preservation as justification, the Gene Link Experiment Base emerged, claiming it could extract high-intelligence animal genes for fusion modification, both solving their threat to humanity and having the engineered new species contribute to Blue Star's construction.
Subsequent trials succeeded, and further modification surgery could also bestow the racial abilities onto human warriors.
Villain Lin Juan.
Transferred from the headquarters base to the senior researcher and caretaker of the Ocean Forest Number Ten Experimental Base, also serving as high-intelligence animal gene analyst.
Lin Juan was responsible for overseeing the gene extraction plan's implementation and first discovered the deep-sea mysterious high-intelligence species—the merfolk.
The story also unfolds at Number Ten Base, with the protagonist Xu Yi, an investigator of the Blue Star Chinese Investigation Society and one of the opponents of the gene project.
The opponents believed that the so-called gene project was merely a conspiracy targeting high-intelligence animals, just a means for humanity to attempt to control and plunder their abilities.
Xu Yi infiltrated Number Ten Base disguised as a caretaker, to investigate the true purpose of the experiment and whether it was really, as outwardly claimed, "giving high-intelligence animals a new home."
Several times using the caretaker identity for covert lab visits, Xu Yi found that indeed, as they had guessed, the experimenters' attitude toward high-intelligence animals was passable, but after modification the animals were seen by them as mere ants or the lowest test subjects.
During the covert visits, Xu Yi and the main character's love interest—actually the senior manager of Number Ten Base, You Zhuoran—met.
After discovering each other's identities, they fell into love and conflict, not endorsing each other's steadfast beliefs, yet they could not suppress their mutual heart-flutter.
Xu Yi told You Zhuoran without reservation about the external doubts concerning the experiment, worries for the confined high-intelligence animals, and the debate over whether humanity truly needed genetic modification; and when You Zhuoran finally relaxed and secretly offered help, Xu Yi grasped much information related to the experiment.
But at that very moment, the captive merfolk began genetic modification experiments; Xu Yi tried to stop them, yet his identity was discovered by the researcher in charge, Lin Juan.
Lin Juan drove Xu Yi away, forcing the protagonist to separate; Xu Yi returned to the Investigation Society with all his gathered information, exposing the experiment's true nature, and consequently was invited by the Animal Association to infiltrate the Gene Experiment Base headquarters on an undercover mission.
To accompany Xu Yi, You Zhuoran voluntarily applied for a work transfer to the headquarters; unfortunately, shortly afterward Lin Juan, who had completed the merfolk modification experiment, returned and almost instantly recognized Xu Yi's identity.
The undercover mission failed; Xu Yi could not help the Animal Association rescue the trapped high-intelligence animals, and Lin Juan together with the headquarters doctor restarted the interrupted Gene Link experiment.
During the pursuit by the base's guard squad, Xu Yi suffered an accidental injury and died, and the story ends here.
【Your identity is that of the mysterious merfolk captured and brought into Number Ten Base.】
【Wait, am I on the same side as the protagonist?】
【Oh no, the gene experiment is unacceptable; please, Host, find out why the villain Lin Juan rejects high-intelligence animals and the modified species, and use your love to sway him!】
【......】
【Side quest: Help the protagonist Xu Yi complete the undercover mission and expose the experiment's truth.】
【.】
I'm just a merfolk who barely passed the juvenile stage, yet got caught and brought to the base—what bad luck!
Why do I have to undertake such a dangerous mission!
