Chapter 2845: Why Does My Wife Follow Me Every Day 05

~8 min read 1,455 words

The rain showed no sign of stopping; it had turned from the downpour two days prior into a lingering drizzle, pattering softly.

The sky remained overcast, but the coffee shop was warm and bright in the morning, the aroma of roasted coffee beans mingling with the scent of pastries, making anyone who entered feel at ease.

Barista Xiao Liu was washing utensils behind the counter, while pastry chef A Lin was preparing ingredients for the afternoon in the back baking area.

Jin Chen rarely personally made coffee, standing at the espresso machine to brew a pour-over for a regular.

"Boss Jin personally making coffee today—how rare," the regular said with a smile.

"Just killing time," Jin Chen replied, returning the filter to its holder as the coffee slowly dripped into the lower pot.

It was strange—why hadn't Yun Jian come for coffee today?

Jin Chen thought, glanced toward the door, and just then the wind chime on the shop door rang.

The one who entered was Xiao Ye from the flower shop next door, hair tied in a ponytail, holding a bouquet tied with a dark brown ribbon.

"Boss Jin."

Xiao Ye walked up to the counter, her voice soft and a little shy, handing over the bouquet: "Our boss asked me to give this to you. He said, thank you for buying him coffee these two days."

Jin Chen took the bouquet; the flowers were fresh, with droplets still on the petals—clearly just wrapped.

"Please thank Boss Yun for me—is he not in the shop today?"

"He went to restock," Xiao Ye said. "A customer ordered some special floral materials that need to be flown in from abroad, so the boss personally went to the airport to pick them up."

"I see, thank you for your trouble."

"No trouble at all," Xiao Ye waved her hand and turned to leave.

She had barely stepped out when the atmosphere inside the shop shifted.

The regular curiously teased, "Boss Yun, the pretty owner of the flower shop next door—you two have a great neighborly relationship."

Jin Chen chuckled, saw the regular out, didn't pick up on Xiao Liu's joking remark, and carried the flowers upstairs.

He pushed the door open, and as expected, saw Tan Quan sprawled on the balcony.

To be precise, half of his body was jutting out over the balcony, one leg already over the railing, attempting to climb onto the flower shop's balcony.

The balconies of the two buildings were nearly two meters apart; below was the height of the second floor—falling wouldn't be fatal, but breaking an arm or leg was certain.

Tan Quan stuck his butt out, hair a mess, trying to break out, but he was clumsy.

Jin Chen held the bouquet in his arms, expressionless as he watched.

Tan Quan was extremely sensitive to danger; the instant Jin Chen pushed the door open, he sensed something was off, slowly turned his head, and saw Jin Chen standing there.

"!!!"

Tan Quan's hand slipped in fright, nearly sliding off the balcony edge; he flailed and grabbed the railing to steady himself.

The next second, Tan Quan astonishingly pulled his leg back, flipped onto the balcony, stood straight, cleared his throat, and began doing stretching movements like radio calisthenics.

"One two three four, two two three four…"

Jin Chen walked to the center of the living room, set the bouquet on the coffee table, then plucked a leaf from it.

Tan Quan was still exercising, but his eyes kept darting over here.

Jin Chen raised his hand, pinching the leaf between his index and middle fingers, and gave his wrist a light flick.

Whoosh!

The leaf shot out like a dart, grazing Tan Quan's cheek before embedding firmly into the wooden window frame of the balcony.

Tan Quan: "……"

He froze in place, only after a few seconds daring to slowly turn his head toward the leaf lodged at least half a centimeter into the wood, then touched his face.

It burned! It hurt!

"I was just stretching my muscles," Tan Quan said weakly.

Jin Chen said nothing, merely watching him.

Feeling creeped out by the stare, Tan Quan inched bit by bit behind the sofa, trying to hide.

Jin Chen truly didn't understand—this guy acted like a dog, full of energy, leaping about, wagging his tail at the slightest treat, and causing havoc if you weren't careful.

"You want to go next door again," Jin Chen said in a flat tone. "I told you it's not allowed—are you just forgetful, or do you not understand human speech?"

"Okay, okay, I won't go, I won't go."

Tan Quan poked half his head out from behind the sofa, his eyes fixed on the bouquet on the coffee table, his nostrils twitching twice.

"Hey," Tan Quan said, his tone suddenly whiny, "Who sent you those flowers? They're pretty… can I have a couple to play with? I'm bored to death."

"No. Stay put. If I catch you trying to sneak over next door again, next time the leaf won't be going into the window frame."

Jin Chen picked up the bouquet, turned, went into the bedroom, and closed the door.

From outside the door came Tan Quan's resentful voice: "Stingy…"

Tan Quan sulkily squatted beside the sofa, knees drawn up, face buried in his arms, feeling utterly miserable.

This person couldn't comprehend his anguish at all—he just wanted to go see how Song Cun was doing!

Jin Chen set the bouquet on the nightstand, sat on the bed for a while, then suddenly realized he could no longer hear any outside noise.

Jin Chen got up, opened the door, and found the living room empty.

Jin Chen: "……"

Jin Chen went downstairs, pushed the door open, took a few steps across the wet stone slabs, and arrived at the glass door of Cloud Flower Shop.

——

Inside the flower shop, under warm yellow lights, various flowers and greenery were arranged tastefully.

Song Cun held a pair of floral scissors, carefully trimming the lily leaves.

He was short and slight of build, his movements carrying a natural gentle demeanor; Tan Quan stood opposite him, eyes sparkling as he watched.

"So… what were we before?" Song Cun lifted his head, asking hesitantly.

After waking, he remembered only his name and a vague impression of an older brother; everything else was a blank.

Yun Jian told him that he had been entrusted by his older brother to stay temporarily, and asked him to first help out at the flower shop.

Tan Quan's eyeball rolled, his expression became extremely sincere, "I used to be your boyfriend."

Song Cun's flower-trimming scissors dropped onto the table; the hand wrapping flowers for the customer trembled, and the customer choosing flowers also turned his head.

Song Cun froze, his face gradually turning red.

Jin Chen pushed open the flower shop's door, and the bell chimed softly.

"Are you... Tan Quan's friend?" Song Cun asked softly, hoping Jin Chen would deny this ridiculous claim.

Jin Chen had a blank expression, "No."

Being friends with such a mentally challenged child—whoever wants to, can.

Tan Quan immediately interjected, "This is my landlord! I'm temporarily staying at his place."

Song Cun looked at Tan Quan, then at Jin Chen, and finally his gaze fell back onto Tan Quan's face, which looked no older than eighteen or nineteen, his voice trembling a little, "Is he really... an adult?"

The Tan Quan before him was slim, full of youthful vigor, and with his behavior and demeanor, it was really hard to believe he was an adult, let alone a boyfriend.

Jin Chen walked over to the counter, his tone light, "He's just not very bright."

"Hey!" Tan Quan protested.

But Song Cun obviously relaxed.

He picked up the flower-trimming scissors again, continued trimming the flower stems, and no longer looked at Tan Quan.

Tan Quan, unwilling to give up, moved closer again, "I really am your boyfriend, I really like your..."

He reached out his hand, wanting to touch Song Cun's hand.

Before he could make contact, Song Cun suddenly grabbed the feather duster from the table used for dusting and slapped it onto Tan Quan's hand with a smack.

"I don't believe you." Song Cun said, his voice not loud but very firm, with a hint of fierceness, "Don't touch me."

Tan Quan froze, as if recalling some unpleasant memory, and then remembered the even fiercer Song Cun.

He sheepishly withdrew his hand, rubbed the spot that had been hit, shrank his head, and gradually moved behind Jin Chen to hide.

The atmosphere was a bit awkward.

"Song Cun, be friendlier to customers."

From the wooden stairs leading to the second floor, a voice came.
