Chapter 2850: My Wife Keeps Following Me Around 10

~7 min read 1,282 words

Jin Chen woke up and first looked at the carpet beside the bed, he reached over to feel it, the towel that had been laid there last night was still there, empty on top, the rabbit was already gone.

He propped himself up on his elbow, sat up, and scratched his somewhat messy hair.

In the morning light, faint pressure marks could still be seen on the towel, with a few white rabbit hairs stuck to the edge.

Indeed, it wasn't a dream.

Jin Chen stared blankly for a few seconds before reaching out to pick up the phone on the bedside table.

The screen lit up, showing one unread message.

Yun Jian: "It's my rabbit, sorry for the trouble last night, it's already back."

The message was sent at 6:20; Jin Chen glanced at the current time—8:55.

Ah, my wife really gets up early.

He paused his fingertip on the screen, then typed a reply: "No problem, it's well-behaved, but next time you could let it come in through the front door."

After sending it, Jin Chen threw off the covers, got out of bed, walked to the window, and flung the curtains open.

In the early morning sunshine, light poured in, a bit dazzling.

The opposite window was also open; Yun Jian stood by the windowsill, holding a small spray bottle, watering the few potted plants by the window.

He was wearing a warm-toned long robe today; the fabric looked soft, the cuffs loose, swaying slightly with his movements. Jin Chen watched for a few seconds, then also pushed open the window.

"Morning." Jin Chen said, his voice still hoarse from just waking up.

Yun Jian turned her head, saw him, her eyes curved, and said, "Morning."

The mist from the spray bottle refracted into tiny rainbows in the sunlight.

Jin Chen looked, then suddenly felt interested, turned around to fetch half a cup of clear water, returned to the window, and imitated her by watering the flowers a bit.

Yun Jian watched from opposite, her lips unconsciously curling up.

"Want to come to the shop for breakfast later?" Jin Chen asked after watering the flowers and setting down the cup, speaking through the two windows, "I'll try making waffles with the newly arrived maple syrup."

"Sure." Yun Jian nodded, her voice gentle, "I'll bring some fresh flowers to go with the meal."

"Even better." Jin Chen laughed.

After closing the window, Yun Jian heard the two rabbits chirping, she poked one of them and said, "Don't say Jin Chen is lazy; it's still early now, I can pretend I haven't had breakfast."

Rabbit: "……"

At 9:30, the coffee shop filled with the aroma of bread and coffee.

Jin Chen was toasting waffles; Tan Quan clung to a mop, lazily leaning against the wall, yawning nonstop.

The door was pushed open, and the wind chime rang.

Yun Jian walked in, holding a bouquet of a few champagne roses still in bud, wrapped in kraft paper, simple yet pretty.

He handed the bouquet to Jin Chen, who was preparing the waffle batter, with a faint warm smile in his eyes, saying, "I hope I'm not too much of a bother."

"How could it be? Even a humble dwelling shines." Jin Chen took the bouquet, his fingertips touching Yun Jian's cool fingers.

Jin Chen placed the bouquet in a conspicuous spot inside the counter, saying, "Put it here for now; later I'll find a vase to put it in."

Yun Jian's gaze lingered on the bouquet for a moment, then she sat down in her usual spot by the window.

From this angle, one could just see Jin Chen's busy profile behind the counter.

Tan Quan put down the mop, hurried to the back kitchen, and brought out a large bowl of his own breakfast: fried rice piled like a small hill, accompanied by a fried egg and sausage, the portion shockingly large.

He held the bowl, walking in a leisurely, swaying manner to the doorway, glancing at the neighboring flower shop, where Song Cun stood at the door arranging the sign.

Tan Quan grinned widely, carrying the bowl over.

Jin Chen glanced at him, said nothing, and continued with his work.

He took the baked waffles out, placed them on a white porcelain plate, then made a latte, garnishing it with a few fresh blueberries and mint leaves.

"Try some." Jin Chen said, moving over and nudging the waffle plate toward Yun Jian.

Yun Jian picked up a fork, cut a piece, and put it in her mouth.

The waffle was crisp outside, soft inside, just the right sweetness, making his eyes slightly narrow as he showed a satisfied expression.

"Delicious." he said, then cut another piece.

Jin Chen watched him eat, then also picked up his coffee cup and took a sip.

Yun Jian ate two bites; her taste buds were fully satisfied, but her appetite remained lacking.

It would be nice if, after this breakfast, I could also taste Jin Chen's lips.

Yun Jian thought, he would surely savor it slowly, perhaps with a hint of coffee's slight bitterness and the pastry's sweet fragrance.

He regrettably lowered his head, then cut another piece of waffle, his motion slowed by half a beat.

Jin Chen noticed Yun Jian's distraction, set down his cup, and lightly flicked her forehead.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked, his voice tinged with laughter.

Yun Jian lifted her head, looking at Jin Chen; morning light came from the side, the person before her had deep-set eyes and a straight nose, the corners of his mouth naturally curved upward, making him look like he's smiling even when he isn't.

"Nothing much, the waffle is really delicious." Yun Jian said, her lips curving up.

He propped his cheek with one hand, his gaze following Jin Chen—watching him rise to take a new order, watching him stand focused at the coffee machine, watching his profile as he spoke with customers.

Really cute, Yun Jian thought in her heart.

It's so obvious—how could Jin Chen fail to notice that gaze? Being looked at like this by his wife, what's not good about that?

After finishing a customer's order, Jin Chen walked back to the table.

Yun Jian had already finished her breakfast, slowly sipping the last few mouthfuls of coffee.

"Are you free at noon?" Jin Chen asked, resting his hand on the chair back, "I've reserved a restaurant and would like to treat you to a meal."

Yun Jian's heartbeat quickened in that instant.

After anticipating the invitation all morning, it arrived just like that, naturally.

"I'm free." Yun Jian said, a faint smile blooming in her eyes, "I'm really looking forward to it."

The restaurant isn't far; it's a twenty‑minute drive there.

Jin Chen's reserved seat was by the window, offering a view of the lush courtyard below; Yun Jian sat opposite him, his shirt neat and well‑fitted, slowly wiping his hands with a hot towel.

The waiter brought the menu, and Jin Chen let Yun Jian order first.

Yun Jian flipped through a few pages, ordered several light dishes, added a bottle of red wine, and pushed the menu toward Jin Chen.

"Take a look and see if you want to add anything."

Jin Chen added two dishes, and after the waiter left, there was a brief silence of a few seconds between them.

But Yun Jian was good at finding topics.

He really performed well, his attention wholly on Jin Chen; how could he bear to let this private moment fall flat?

The waiter brought over the red wine, opened the bottle, and since Jin Chen still had to drive, he only drank tea.
