Chapter 2849: Why Does My Wife Keep Following Me Every Day 09?

~9 min read 1,605 words

The night grew deep.

At 2 a. m., Yun Jian jerked awake from sleep, also awakened by vivid pain; his whole body felt as if soaked in mire, a sensation of suffocation welling up.

He furrowed his brows, fingertips gripping the sheet, crumpling it.

This pain was familiar; a few days each month it came, as if his body were issuing a reminder—he was ultimately not purely human.

A rabbit hopped onto the bed, nudging his hand gently with its nose.

Yun Jian opened his eyes, his gaze somewhat unfocused; he reached out and stroked the rabbit's head, his fingers still trembling slightly.

"It's… all right… don't come closer," he said in a low voice, his tone slightly hoarse, his high nasal bridge uncomfortably rubbing against the pillow as he endured the pain.

The pain persisted; Yun Jian sat up, leaning against the headboard, his gaze unconsciously turning to the window.

The two buildings had similar structures; his bedroom was the second-floor guest room, its window facing the master bedroom window on the second floor of the coffee shop.

Sometimes at night he could see Jin Chen moving about the room, or standing by the window; though infrequent, each time Yun Jian would quietly watch until Jin Chen stepped away from the window.

Tonight, that window was dark.

Jin Chen should already be asleep.

Yun Jian stared at that dark window for a long while; the hazy pain made his thoughts less clear.

An urge surged within his body, harder to restrain than usual.

Go take a look.

Just one glance…

I must go, I must go, I must go.

Yun Jian threw off the blanket, bare feet touching the floor.

In the moonlight, that tall shadow gradually shrank.

——

Jin Chen was awakened by the disturbance.

The room was very dark; Jin Chen looked toward the windowsill.

A white shape slipped through the gap in the window and landed on the carpet.

Jin Chen: "……"

He sat up and turned on the bedside lamp.

The warm yellow light illuminated the room, also lighting up that…… rabbit on the carpet.

It was a large rabbit, its fur snow‑white; it lifted its head, its red eyes glittering in the lamp light.

Jin Chen propped himself against the headboard; most of his sleepiness had faded, yet he still felt a bit dazed.

He instinctively glanced at the closed bedroom door, then at the window, which had a slit open; the night breeze brought coolness inside, stirring the sheer curtain.

Where had this rabbit come from? Its size exceeded that of an ordinary rabbit, its fur thicker, round and plump like a fur ball.

Seeing him awake, the rabbit bounced twice, hopped to the bedside, and tried to jump onto the bed.

Jin Chen reached out, lifted it by the scruff of its neck.

The rabbit didn't struggle; it merely stared at him with its red eyes, twitching its nose.

"Did you climb in through the window?" Jin Chen muttered to himself, examining the rabbit as he walked to the window.

Yun Jian's bedroom window also had a slit open.

"Are you Yun Jian's rabbit?" Jin Chen asked, lowering his head.

How could this be, Yun Jian thought; at this very moment, how could he hear his own name—it was simply……

The rabbit wouldn't answer; it merely rubbed its head against his fingers.

It's his wife's rabbit, so I can't just ignore it.

Jin Chen set it back on the carpet, tapped its forehead, and said, "It's so late—what are you doing out here?"

The rabbit bounced up again, this time leaping directly onto the bed, burrowing into his arms, finding a comfortable spot, pressing its head against his chest, its long ears drooping onto his arm.

Jin Chen instinctively caught it; it was soft, its fur thick, its body temperature a bit higher than a human's, feeling like a warm hand‑warmer in his embrace.

Jin Chen held the rabbit as he sat back on the bed's edge, his fingers stroking its back fur, slowly smoothing down to its round rump.

Suddenly the rabbit turned its head, opened its three‑part mouth, and nibbled his fingertip.

Jin Chen let it hold on, rubbing its cheek with his thumb, asking, "What's wrong? Are you uncomfortable?"

The rabbit released his finger, its red eyes gazing at him, then nuzzled into his embrace again.

Jin Chen thought for a moment, then, holding the rabbit with one hand, he picked up his phone and sent Yun Jian a message: "Your rabbit ran over to my place; it's well‑behaved—I'll return it to you tomorrow morning."

After sending the message, he turned off his phone and lowered his gaze to the rabbit in his arms.

The rabbit also lifted its head to look at him; its red eyes gleamed like two jewels in the lamp light.

Jin Chen lifted the rabbit, holding it aloft, and said, "It's really soft, but I need to sleep now."

Having said that, he set the rabbit on the bed, one hand pressing it down, stroking its fur from head to back.

At first the rabbit wriggled a bit, but soon it went limp, turning into a rabbit pancake, eyes half‑closed, so relaxed its ears flopped down.

Jin Chen found a towel, spread it on the carpet beside the bed, placed the rabbit on it, then found a small blanket to cover it.

"Sleep," Jin Chen said, tapping its forehead, "Tomorrow I still have to treat your owner to a meal."

He turned off the bedside lamp and lay down again.

The rabbit on the towel opened its eyes.

Its red pupils glowed faintly in the darkness, gazing deeply at the sleeping person on the bed; after a long while, the rabbit gently rose, shook out its fur, jumped off the towel, and slipped back out through the window gap.

——

Yun Jian closed the window; at the instant it shut, the rabbit vanished and a human form appeared.

He collapsed onto the bed, his whole body limp; while being petted in Jin Chen's arms, the pain had largely faded, but a more surging sensation arose in its place.

Yun Jian lay on the bed, a faint red under his eyes, his breathing unsteady, his state barely holding, turning into red pupils.

He couldn't restrain himself, curled his finger joints and put them in his mouth to bite, emitting a repressed soft laugh, muttering, his voice filled with infatuation, his gaze dazed as he stared at the ceiling.

"So beautiful..."

In his mind replayed the scene just now: Jin Chen in pajamas, hair a little messy, drowsy yet still astonishingly handsome face, his eyelashes drooping as he lowered his head to look at his phone.

Every frame made his heartbeat skip and his blood heat up.

Yun Jian turned over, buried himself in the pillow, his shoulders twitched slightly, laughing somewhat foolishly.

Two rabbits hopped onto the bed, came up to his face, chirping, blaming him for being too impulsive.

Yun Jian lifted his head from the pillow, glanced at them, "I know, I'm very restrained."

If he didn't restrain himself, he would have wanted to keep lying in Jin Chen's arms, even wanting to sneak into his blankets and snuggle while sleeping.

One rabbit stamped its foot, "Chirp!"

"He won't notice, that's mine," Yun Jian said, his voice very soft, "Moreover... I can't help it."

He lay flat again, gazing at the ceiling, savoring the feeling of being petted by Jin Chen just now, his distinct-jointed hand fell on his back, stroking repeatedly along the direction of hair growth, so comfortable he almost melted.

"Just now I kept looking at him, his eyes beautiful, his hands nice, he even touched me..."

The two rabbits kept chirping nonstop.

"What kind of human tranquilizer..." Yun Jian muttered in rebuttal, "You can't say that about him, he still invited me to eat tomorrow..."

Yun Jian's eyes sparkled, "I want to perform well."

Two rabbits: "..."

The two rabbits glanced at each other, both seeing speechlessness in the other's eyes.

They jumped off the bed, too bothered to care.

Yun Jian lingered on the bed for a long time, waiting for his body's trembling to completely subside, but his excitement and anticipation only grew hotter, so he could only get up and walk to the desk.

The computer turned on, the screen showed Jin Chen's bedroom.

The angle was shot from the windowsill direction, that's where the vase is.

Looking this way, you can see Jin Chen's bed, the person on it lying on their side, still asleep.

Yun Jian stared at the monitoring screen, sleeping Jin Chen looked much softer than in the day, brows relaxed, lips slightly pursed, forehead hair scattered on the pillow.

He reached out, his fingertip lightly touching the screen.

If he could sleep together with Jin Chen... Yun Jian thought, he would surely be careful not to wake him, would help pull up the blanket for him, would gently kiss his earlobe and the corner of his lips.

Yun Jian bit his tongue tip with his teeth, the pain bringing him back from fantasy.

Cannot go now.

Still not okay.

It would scare him, need to take it slow.

The camera was something he put a lot of effort into obtaining, disguised as a flower petal hidden in a bouquet, a micro device commonly used in underground venues, so he doesn't worry at all that Jin Chen will notice.

Yun Jian turned off the computer, lay back onto the bed.

He must hurry to sleep.

Dawn is approaching.

After dawn, he will be able to see Jin Chen.
