Chapter 2977: You Are My Fashion Darling 36
In the afternoon, Jin Chen regretted this decision.
It wasn't that sleeping or playing games was a problem; rather, he never expected that some relatives of Chenshu's family would show up uninvited, and they picked a time when Chenshu wasn't around.
Had he known Chenshu's relatives would bring people to the Zhuang Yuan, he would never have stayed here alone.
Things happened very suddenly.
Jin Chen woke from his nap, went downstairs looking for something to eat, and incidentally checked whether the afternoon tea was ready.
His low blood sugar condition was well known throughout the Zhuang Yuan, so every afternoon a carefully prepared nutritious tea was served, unfailingly.
Just as he reached the first-floor living room, he saw three strangers sitting on the sofa.
A middle-aged woman, a middle-aged man, and a young guy.
Jin Chen stood at the stairwell, took a moment to identify them, was certain he didn't know them, and turned to go back upstairs.
But he was still noticed—what bad luck.
The housekeeper walked over from the side and whispered an introduction: "Mr. Jin, this is Ms. Jennifer, the paternal aunt of the head of the Chenshu family; this is her husband, Mr. James; and there is also…"
The housekeeper glanced at the blond young man, hesitating a moment.
"This is Wu Lai," Ms. Jennifer introduced, sizing up Jin Chen from head to toe: "He's a childhood playmate of Chenshu's; Wu Lai just finished his studies in Switzerland and, hearing that Chenshu is here, came specially to see him, planning to stay at the Zhuang Yuan for a while."
Jin Chen's gaze shifted to Wu Lai.
The blond youth happened to be looking at him too; a flash of wariness crossed his blue eyes, unprepared for Jin Chen's appearance—so outstanding that his sense of crisis instantly spiked to the max.
If the people around Chenshu looked like this, he had no idea what his chances were.
"Hello, I'm Wu Lai, sorry to disturb you."
Jin Chen didn't really want to play along with this overly obvious act; he drawled, "Please make yourselves at home."
He then asked the housekeeper, "Is the afternoon tea ready?"
The housekeeper hurriedly replied, "It's ready, in the glass greenhouse of the garden, prepared to your taste."
Jin Chen nodded, turned, and prepared to head out the side door leading to the garden.
Jennifer was taken aback by his completely ignoring attitude: "Hey! You kid, how can you be so unmannered? When guests come, you come downstairs in pajamas and slippers without even a greeting!"
"Chenshu never taught me that unexpected guests require any special etiquette."
"What… what kind of attitude is this!" Jennifer heaved, pointing at the direction Jin Chen had disappeared, and told the housekeeper, "Is this the sort of person Chenshu keeps around? No manners at all! How could Chenshu allow someone like this to stay by his side?"
The housekeeper, eyes lowered, nose to heart, said, "Ms. Jennifer, the master has ordered that everything in the Zhuang Yuan prioritizes Mr. Jin's comfort; if you, Mr. James, and this young master Wu Lai wish to stay and rest, I'll arrange guest rooms right away."
He spoke politely, but the meaning was clear: you may stay, but you must follow the rules here.
Jennifer was left speechless, her face growing even uglier.
Wu Lai quickly stepped forward, gently took her arm, and in a gentle tone tried to smooth things over: "Aunt Jennifer, don't be angry; let's wait until big brother comes back to talk."
While his mouth spoke those soothing words, his eyes flicked toward the direction Jin Chen had gone.
——
Jin Chen wandered to the glass greenhouse; the servant brought up the afternoon tea, and sunlight filtered through the pavilion's gaps onto the tablecloth, mottled and dappled.
He had just picked up a scone and was about to put it in his mouth when the greenhouse's glass door was pushed open.
Jennifer, accompanied by Wu Lai, had actually followed him over.
Jin Chen: "……"
Jennifer's face had already resumed an elegant, haughty expression; she took Wu Lai's hand and sat in the chair opposite Jin Chen, while James sat somewhat awkwardly beside her.
"The afternoon tea here is not bad," Jennifer remarked, glancing at the pastries on the table with a critical tone.
"Since Chenshu values you and keeps you by his side, you should also learn to improve yourself, to be worthy of his status—what's the point of lounging around in loungewear all day? Look at Wu Lai; that's how one ought to be."
Wu Lai lowered his eyes slightly, seeming a bit embarrassed.
Jin Chen leisurely finished the half scone in his hand, took a sip of tea, then lifted his eyelids to look at the chattering Jennifer opposite him and the seemingly well-behaved Wu Lai.
The easygoing Jin Chen decided to treat it as a live-action audio drama and continued to focus on his afternoon tea.
Seeing that he still ignored her, Jennifer's face darkened again; Wu Lai noticed, gently tugged at her sleeve, then turned himself toward Jin Chen.
"Mr. Jin, I heard from Aunt Jennifer that you're a model? That's impressive; when I was little I also thought about being a model, but my family felt it was too hard and not… respectable enough, so they didn't let me go. You must have had a tough time getting to where you are today, right?"
"Especially, I've heard your family… seems to have some complicated past? Going it alone would surely be harder, but now it's better—with Chenshu big brother looking after you, you won't have to struggle so much from now on."
……
Jennifer and Wu Lai teamed up, quickly belittling Jin Chen to nothing; if one's mental resilience were weak, hearing a few lines could send them straight to paradise to enjoy blessings.
Thus Jin Chen realized he was mistaken again.
Nobody would take a frantic buzzing as an audio drama to listen to.
