Chapter 2988: Stubborn Taming 05

~5 min read 1,000 words

Chenshu's accusation was utterly justified; his mouth turned down, his whole body like a cat with its fur blown out, every hair from head to toe writing "I won't accept it."

Jin Chen probably thought arguing with him was pointless, so he compromised, saying, "Go sleep on the sofa, or I'll throw you out."

Chenshu didn't listen, rolled into the blanket, and he pulled the whole blanket over himself, shouting, "Old man, you go sleep yourself—I don't want to sleep on the so…fa! What are you doing?"

Jin Chen bent over, slipped a hand under the blanket to grab Chenshu's waist, and, together with the blanket, hauled him up from the bed.

Chenshu's whole body hung in the air, his vision upside down, the world spinning.

He struggled twice, found he couldn't break free, and his whole body, blanket and all, was wrapped into a long strip laid across Jin Chen's shoulder like a rolled-up blanket.

Seeing he was about to be hoisted and thrown out, he quickly gave in.

"Husband." Chenshu called out, dragging the syllable long, like he was being coquettish or pleading.

Jin Chen's motion paused.

Chenshu felt a surge of joy, knowing this trick worked, and hurried to strike while the iron was hot.

He sniffed, the moisture in his eyes growing thicker, "On our first night as newlyweds, are you really going to make me sleep on the sofa?"

"You have such a cruel heart..."

His tone grew softer and more pitiful, like an abandoned small animal whimpering in a rainy night.

His face was buried in the edge of the blanket, only a pair of wet eyes visible, blinking at Jin Chen, as wronged as could be.

Jin Chen fell silent for a few seconds, but in the end he still didn't toss the person onto the sofa.

He shoved Chenshu toward the inner side of the big bed, then turned off the light.

The room plunged into darkness.

The bed was wide; the two lay on it with at least half a meter between them, so turning over wouldn't disturb the other.

Chenshu struggled in the blanket for a while before managing to pull his two arms out of the tight wrapping.

He took a breath, flexed his numb wrist, and cursed the old man a hundred and eighty times in his heart, wishing he could roll over, grab the person beside him by the throat, and squeeze—harder and harder—until those eyes closed peacefully.

He was really angry.

Angry that his every small move had been seen through, angry that his pants had been pulled down to check his birthmark, angry that he'd been hoisted and almost thrown onto the sofa, and angrier still that his heart had skipped a beat when he called out "husband."

Just as Chenshu tossed and turned, gnashing his teeth, a low, cold voice came from beside him.

"Stop pretending to be a mouse."

Chenshu: "……"

He kept his side-lying posture, daring not to move, his body curled in the blanket like a hedgehog rolled into a ball, only a small tip of gray hair showing, his mind still racing with thoughts.

Could it be true that the rumors about this old man's poor sleep are real? Otherwise why would he wake up so easily? Or perhaps he hasn't slept at all, just waiting for me to show some flaw.

Whatever.

Anyway, he was tired.

Chenshu closed his eyes, his consciousness beginning to blur; in the haze he smelled a warm breath, carrying the dry warmth of sandalwood, drifting from the person beside him and slowly enveloping him.

——

Next morning.

When Chen Gai brought up breakfast, Jin Chen was already sitting on the sofa in the living room.

He had changed into a dark shirt, sleeves rolled to his forearms, flipping through a book about the construction materials industry; a black coffee sat on the coffee table, half-drunk.

Chen Gai pushed the food cart in, laid out the breakfast item by item on the table, and after finishing, glanced toward the bedroom.

The bedroom door remained shut, sealed tight, revealing nothing.

He hesitated a moment, then couldn't help lowering his voice to ask, "Boss, do you still need the ointment?"

"No need."

Chen Gai nodded, preparing to retreat, when suddenly he heard a rustling from inside the bedroom.

Jin Chen turned a page, eyes not lifting, "Go have a look."

Chen Gai froze.

"Me?!"

"The sister-in-law is still in there—would it be appropriate for me to go in?! If I saw something I shouldn't, would I even want to keep my eyes?"

But he glanced at Jin Chen's expression again—Jin Chen's face showed no extra emotion, even seeming a bit indifferent.

The boss's orders cannot be defied. This is the first rule Chen Gai learned from following Jin Chen all these years.

He took a deep breath, walked to the bedroom door, pushed it open, and exclaimed, "Damn it!"

The bedroom window was wide open, the morning cold wind pouring in, making the curtains rustle loudly.

And that handsome youth, who yesterday had been clutching Jin Chen's arm, aggrieved to death, was now straddling the window frame, one leg already out the window, the other still hooked on the inner side, his whole body suspended in a perilous pose that could drop him at any moment from the tenth-floor height.

His gray wolf-tail was blown into disarray by the wind, and his hem fluttered.

Chenshu heard the door opening, turned his head, and saw Chen Gai standing in the doorway with a look of terror.

Jin Chen still held that book, seated unmoving on the sofa, his voice just loud enough for those in the room to hear, "Chen Gai, have someone lay ten rows of iron nails on the first floor."

Chen Gai staggered, then pulled his head back from the bedroom to look at his own boss, "Huh?"

Falling from the tenth floor, the iron nails would pierce the body—it would be worse than death.
